Good Book. I liked the story of Lily and the hero Nash. It's part of a series but I haven't read the first one. If I had this might have helped understand the heroine's relationship with Fiona and Sophie. If you like an authentic regency romance this will not be for you; the heroine dresses as a boy, goes out alone and has an intimate relation with the duke. It's jeopardy is: will there be a happy ever after and as an extra along the way we find out about Lily's mother.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
My favorite book in this genre in a long time! I loved reading about a heroine with complete freedom (and would love to see this trope used more often)! With plenty of well-developed characters and a lot of chemistry between the leads, I was very impressed by Ms. Bennett's writing, and would look forward to more of her writing.
I received a digital ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This is the second book in the Debutante Diaries series. This was a sweet, funny story about an unconventional amnesia victim and a brooding duke. The Duke of Stonebridge has vowed to remain immune to love. But he doesn't expect to be enthralled by a heroine who is equally entranced by his poorly disguised soft heart and amber eyes. They find both themselves and each other.
This was truly difficult for me to read, because I wanted to like it. I enjoyed the relationship between all of the sisters, but the sexual and societal aspects of the story did not ring true to the times. It is just so disappointing when a potentially good story is, in my opinion, ruined by the graphic sex. Plus, I'm still trying to figure out the title - 'The Duke is But a Dream'. I will pass on any future books.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. The opinions express in this review are entirely my own.
I have very mixed views about this book. On the one hand, the main characters are appealing and the plot interesting enough; on the other hand, the actions of the characters were, well, out of character. Caroline/Lily is hit in the head and has amnesia—a very common trope—yet there was very little anguish about her lack of memory and, in spite of the fact that she was a well-born virgin, VERY quickly embarked on affair with Nash, the Duke. Nash, who is so overprotective of his innocent sister and seemly a decent guy, barely even tries to resist his attraction to this young woman who has no memories and is under his protection. It is hard to reconcile his hypocrisy as we are expected to do.
This is the second book in the series and I enjoyed it almost as much as the first book. This is Lila's story and she is feeling a little bit lost or lonely since her sister Fiona (first book) found the love of her life..Lila and her sister and friend Sophie write an advice column but can not let it be known that they are the writers or they will be shunned, it was an era where woman really could not voice their opinions and especially if two of them were still not matched..We have disguises, amnesia, brothels and love..Enjoyable!! Grab a copy!
This is the second book in the series but can be read as a stand alone if you like. What a great read! I couldn't put it down so I read straight through. Wonderful characters, excitement, adventure, love, and heartbreak are just a few elements of the story. It's a must read!
The Duke is But a Dream inspires warm fuzzy feelings as a strong willed heiress falls for the handsome Duke. Miss Lily Hartley is daring and bold enough to write a scandalous column giving debutantes advice and hand delivers it disguised as a boy. When circumstances give Lily a few days unsupervised, she sets out to find a little adventure in her boyish disguise. After dropping off her column, she enters a tavern for a little taste of the forbidden. Accosted and then rescued by a duke, Lily suffers a head injury that leaves her with amnesia. Her strong personality emerges even as she cannot remember who she is and soon she daring to steal a kiss and experience new things with her Duke. Nash is scarred by his past of both losing his twin sister to a carriage accident as she was eloping and his father in the pursuit to stop the wedding. Nash wants no part of love or forever after. But as Lily slowly remembers who she is, Nash cannot help developing feelings for the headstrong beauty with her secrets. With just enough conflict to keep things interesting, The Duke is But a Dream develops a sweet HEA between two strong personalities for an enjoyable read. My voluntary, unbiased review is based upon a review copy from Netgalley.
Loved this book!!! Lily is a young debutante that is secretly the author of the titillating newspaper column "The Debutante's Revenge." When she's involved in an incident that causes her to lose her memory, she has no idea who she is. Nash, a duke, takes her into her home to take care of her. As she convalesces, Lily and Nash begin an unusual and improper relationship.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story and loved the interactions between Lily and Nash. Lily is delightful as she struggles to regain her memories, while somehow still staying true to who she is. Nash is the swoon-worthy duke whose heart is still broken by the loss of his father and twin sister. I was charmed by their tale and found myself turning pages just as quickly as possible.
If you enjoy the genre, you will love this book. The author is on my must read authors' list.
First of all, that title. Swoon! I love it. Anyway, this was a great historical novel dealing with Lily and Nash and their love story! It has a whole lot of catnip like Amnesia and brothels and I thought it was just great. Thank you to netgalley for the ARC!
I loved this story so much. Lily is a heiress but she is the adopted daughter of a Duke. No one knows who her parents are but the Duke and his wife loved her. Her calling is to help other girls and so she and her sister write a column discussing love in London with other Debutantes.
One night she goes to deliver her column she is attacked and loses her memory and Nash saves her and takes her home so his dr can check her over. With no memory she stays with him and his sister and get to know each other. That also leads to lots of romance and yes sex at times though with no memory they don't have a future.
I really enjoyed this story but I felt it was extremely unrealistic. Women in that time period did not go out without someone whether that was a maid or a driver. Nor could they disapear for days and no one notice. Then Lily has sex and she was a virgin and its this very causal thing for both of them. They they do it over and over and its still very casual. It just felt very unrealistic of the times. Added to that Lily even ends up traveling with Nash and its not this big deal either.
That said I did like the characters and I did enjoy the story ALOT. I just felt taht the sex and casualness of it was very unrealistic.
Lily is the secret author of the Debutante’s Revenge, a weekly advice column. After delivering her column, she takes refuge from the rain in The Grey Goose. Realizing she needs to leave, some ruffians block her path. Nash comes to the rescue but in the effort, Lily hits her head and is knocked out cold. Nash takes her home and when she wakes, she has no memory of who she is. And then the adventure begins for Lily to discover her true self. Along the way, she befriends Nash’s sister, Delilah, and falls in love,
A delightful story with some twists and turns and surprises.
