This book was just not for me. I enjoy mystery but could have done without the erotica. This book just needs the right audience.
Very violent, rape, and substance abuse but had lots of twists and turns that keeps the reader interested and pages turning. I'll be interested to see more development from this author. I think that this book could have had a little more depth to it and everything there to make this great, just a touch from great and falls in the good category.
Thank you to Netgalley and to the publisher for allowing me to read this in exchange for an honest review.
DNF. A poor constructed mystery that overuses sex and violence instead of crafting an interesting plot.
A sleeping family was awakened by, what would appear to be, an intruder and alerted the authorities of such person. But, when the police arrived, they didn’t find an intruder, but they did discover a vicious double murder, or so they thought. Turned out that a well-known San Francisco prosecutor, Adam Grant, was found murdered in his bedroom, while his wife was barely clinging to life. Homicide Detective, Valerie Hart, arrived on the scene only to discover she knew the victim all too well. Det. Hart had a very real dilemma. Should she alert her superiors of the connection she had to the deceased, or continue to work the case and see where the clues led her?
As Det. Hart begins to navigate her way through this web of sex, lies and deceit, she soon finds out that she isn’t the only one who is hiding a secret. A rather beautiful blonde is alluding authorities, but continually surfaces as she’s trying to figure out the blonde’s connection to Mr. Grant. The further she digs into the case, the more twisted and deranged the story got. And from there, the reader is left with a state of confusion.
So…yeah, this story wasn’t exactly what I was hoping for. I’m a bit on the fence with this one. From other reviews I’ve read, I gather some were disappointed with the vulgarities of the story, but for me, that wasn’t my problem. My sole issue with this story is that it appeared to read like a damn good movie, but it lacked the excitement. I kept waiting for the excitement to happen, and unfortunately, I was unable to find any. In fact, I found the story dragging in many sections and too much emphasis on mundane things instead of Det. Hart going around town trying to figure out what was happened.
I will say that this story had plenty of twists and turns, and thankfully, that kept me tapping the Kindle to find out what the heck was happening on the other side, but again, it just fell a little flat for me. It wasn’t what I was expecting. Not sure what I wanted, but I just didn’t feel fulfilled, if that makes any sense to the reading audience?
Overall, I felt the story was ok, but just wasn’t my cup of tea. This is not a bad read and it had a lot of elements to the story, just wasn’t the excitement I was expecting. This author has a nice following, so he has an audience that likes his style of writing. I never give up on an author. I may try some of his earlier work and see how I feel, but unfortunately, I wasn’t feeling this story.
The Sexy Nerd gives Anything For You three killer stars. If you enjoy a whodunit, I think this will be a great story for you to try. Just because it wasn’t for me, certainly doesn’t mean it’s not for you. Anything For You goes on sale, Tues., November 5, 2019. Please make sure you pick up your copy wherever books are sold. Until next time, Nerds, open a book and get mind blown!
Definitely a good mystery if you can get past all of the sex and violence, which this book is chock full of. I have never read anything by this author before but all in all this was a pretty good book. Third in a series but I didn't feel like I was missing out by not reading the first two. Valerie Hart is a strong main character whom I really liked. The gruesome murder she is investigating definitely has her working hard with multiple layers as she unravels the case. There are many twists and turns in this book that I did not see coming, and I definitely did not expect the ending. Definitely worth reading if you don't mine a lot of sex/erotica and violence.
4-5 stars, but probably not for everyone! The more disturbing, the more I love the book, and while not disturbing exactly this one has lots of crudeness and sex. If you like the raunchier and racier books, then grab this one! Very fast paced and hard to put down!
Will let the members of Chapter Chatter Pub know about it’s upcoming release!
I tried like heck to finish this book since I requested it. I just can't do it. It is very crude and sexually disgusting for my taste.
I enjoyed this book. Nicely paced, and it kept my attention, which has been hard to do with other books I've tried to read this year.
Thank you to Netgalley for the ARC.
When homicide investigator Valerie Hart arrived at the scene of a home invasion that left one man dead, his wife injured and hysterical, and their young daughter silent and traumatized, she knows she should take herself off the case. Valerie previous brief relationship with the victim, Adam Grant, presents an ethical issue she ignores - after all, nothing ever really happened between her and Adam. Besides, the case intrigued her. The killer left enough clues to make it an open and shut case - his fingerprints, plus a bloody trail from the Grant bedroom down the terms to the c yard where they found the murder weapon are all the police need to identify the man. They can't find him, though, and they can't find any obvious connection to the victim. The case may rest on finding the mysterious woman who last saw Jenner, the presumed murderer, but they can't find her, either. When Jenner s remains turn up in the Nevada, the search for the mysterious Sophie becomes even more important, and by the time she makes an appearance, she's a big surprise to almost everyone except, finally, Valerie Plame
Full of twists, turns, and a few McGuffins to confuse the intricate plot, the mystery satisfies all the way through.
Valerie Hart is back in a new psychological thriller from Saul Black. Valerie is forced to confront her past when a man she was close with is found murdered. She works the case against her better judgment, but finds out that this case has multiple layers and includes more secrets than her own. The narrative switches perspectives between Valerie and a woman named Sophia, a person of interest in the case and a woman with a sordid past. Readers will get inside the heads of those who uphold the law and those who disregard it. Readers of the first two books in the series, The Killing Lessons and LoveMurder, may be disappointed in Valerie’s character development or lack thereof; she seemed to improve in the second book but has reverted back to her selfish ways. Despite Valerie’s flaws, the suspense is rich and will keep readers guessing until the end. This is a must-read for mystery lovers.
Detective Valerie Hart has a lot on her plate. She's newly married. Her husband and her are trying to have a child. And she's trying to solve the murder of a well known attorney. Plus there's the mysterious blond woman that keeps popping up. Who is she and how is she involved with this crime. Or, maybe she isn't. Trying to juggle her professional life with her private life isn't easy. It's her job to solve the case and put the murderer behind bars. All she needs is evidence to prove what she knows.
A thriller that takes you from the dregs of society to the high life.
Plenty of surprises and drama. Great read.
Sex, lies, murder, police - this book has it all! When prominent lawyer Adam Grant is found murdered in his bedroom, and his wife bloodied on the floor but still alive, an intruder, who was witnessed by the next door neighbor, is blamed, at first. Then Detective Valerie Hart gets involved, and the fun begins!
Anything for You by author Saul Black is an intense thriller with all of the feels of a great thriller novel! Can not wait for the release in November, and I can leave my full review! 😍
Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for an arc copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Anything for You is the very definition of a page-turning thriller/mystery. Whether you’ve read the first two Valerie Hart books already or if this third installment is your first, you will NOT be disappointed with this read. Murder, corruption, and sexual desires culminate in a story that will have you guessing all along and then ultimately shocked at the final reveal. Highly recommend.
In the master bedroom Adam is found dead and his wife is bleeding.
I received this book from NetGalley for an honest review-
Because Adam was a prosecutor many think he was targeted....
but the investigator finds pictures of a blond woman in sextual positions and the investigation takes a turn -
Who killed Adam?

I did not connect with the author or any of the characters in this book. I could not finish it. The plot kept stalling and went no where, and the characters were unrelatebale and unrealistic.
Anything for You is a fantastic thriller that I could not put down. A page turner that is well written and has great characters.
I have mixed feelings about this book.
After reading the previous two books I was excited to read more about Valerie Hart, but omfg I have never read the word "cunt" so many times in one book!
I get it--Cunt is a fun word to say and i use it sometimes, but women don't constantly refer to themselves or their parts as cunts.
The mystery of the story was interesting until it wasn't and I was getting so fucking bored with Valerie and her "should I have a baby or not?" thought process. Her entire thought process this whole book was boring and full of cunts. This author is trying to hard to make a cool girl character and failing.
Why do men insist on writing as female characters?
Anything for You by Saul Black
This book was unique, there was quite a bit of sex, murder, and a twist. It was an interesting read if you don't mind the sex and can get around some of the language, which I did and the mystery underneath it was something I didn't see coming at first but I feel as I should have! The beginning of the book jumped in with a lot of sex which had me double checking that I was reading the correct book. Story flows but the characters weren’t very likable which did create some disconnect. Thank you Netgalley and the Publishers St. Martin's Press for this ARC!
Anything for You is a thriller/ mystery with a lot of gratuitous sex thrown in. It is a very masculine novel (the descriptions of women felt especially false to me). 3rd in a series, you can read this without having read the preceding books. There are some interesting twists and it is a well-crafted novel. This was not my style but can see this appealing many others, and not to add a stereotype, but particularly men.
Thank you to #Netgalley and St Martin’s Press for the advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
