I figured some of it out really early, but the story was really good... until the end dropped out. The explanations were in the epilogue, which I thought was weird. I really liked Maura and Brock separately, but I wasn’t feeling the chemistry.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley and I am voluntarily reviewing it.

First off the copy that I received only had Tangled Threat. The second story Suspicious was not included.

The premise of this book was a good one and I so looked forward to reading it. I loved the twist at the end. I totally missed the person's identity behind the kidnapping/murders. I did like the fact that the book was written in a dual POV format.

What I didn't like though seemed to really outweigh the good to me. First of all, the dialogue between the characters threw me off several times. I would have to go back and re-read entire sections to really follow it along. Also I really didn't feel the connection between the two main characters either.

This is the first time that I have read anything from this author and I was really looking forward to it. I don't know if this is an anomaly for her or it just didn't click with me. This isn't the first mystery, intrigue romance that I have read either.

I did LOVE the cover though!

Heather Graham is one of my favorite authors as she intertwines fascinating history of whatever region the story takes place with engaging characters and intriguing plots. This one takes place in southern Florida, in the land of the Miccosukee tribe. Lorena Fortier is on her way to start a new job as nurse at Harry's Alligator Farm and Museum, when she is pulled over by Jesse Crane, Miccosukee Indian policeman. She thinks he's a jerk and he has her pegged as a spoiled little rich girl. They both have a surprise coming. He returned to his father's land, after his wife, also a fellow cop, was murdered. All he needs is solitude. He will not be getting that. She is working undercover to find her father's murderer. He becomes suspicious of her, especially when people start dying from questionable circumstances. The story is an action packed page turner, hard to put down, and keeps the reader guessing. However, I really did not buy into the sudden "chemistry" between Jesse and Lorena, that lead from a single kiss to bed in a few minutes. Danger lurks everywhere, but there is a HEA.

I read an ARC of this book combined with another Heather Graham book, Tangled Threat. But I reviewed that separately. This is my unbiased and voluntary review.

A life changing event will leave a lasting impression. For Maura, finding a body hanging from a tree kicked off a chain of events which left feeling as if she was missing something. As a teenager, Maura's childhood crush on sexy and older Brock McGovern was abruptly cut short when they discovered a dead body together. Their possible summer fling whilst working together at a resort ends before it can take off. Whisked away from the death, Maura lost contact with Brock. Protected by her parents, she grew up sheltered from her childhood trauma. The same cannot be said for Brock. Accused of killing the woman they found dead, he grew up quick and realized that being innocent and doing the right thing may not always be enough.

The characters in this book are nicely developed with a solid background to build from. The adults they turned into are based on their experiences post dead body. For Brock, it cemented his desire and determination to go into law enforcement. Coming back to where it all began brings closure for Brock. It also brings Maura back to him.

Second chance romances where the second time around is the right time are fantastic when it is done right. When it comes to Ms. Graham, her romances are always written beautifully. The chemistry between her characters is already there from their past bond. Coming together again reignites it. The chemistry between Maura and Brock is sweet. It feels like a homecoming which gives a warm fuzzy feeling, even when the circumstances are dire.

The suspense part of the book is nicely balanced with the rekindling of Maura and Brock's romance. The couple of red herrings Ms. Graham throws at the reader are consistent with her other romantic suspense. It still did not throw me off the scent to the real killer. There are a couple of plot twists which make the story more exciting. This romantic suspense is recommended to readers who enjoy second chance romances.

*This two in one book only provided Tangled Threat for me to review.

Maura and Brock had a thing in the past that was until a body was found handing and Brock was blamed for the death. Its been years and now Brock is an FBI agent, and Maura is around to help him solve the case on the missing women that seems to have ties to the past.

If you like a good mystery novel with some romance you'll like this book. I loved following along with the characters getting to know them and seeing as they piece together the mystery that is happening. This isn't a book that can easily be put down if you ask me, I pretty much spent my morning diving into this book and neglecting things around me. Now that I've finished I've unfortunately gotta go back to the real world. But trust me when I say that you'll be hooked by this book from start to end.

TANGLED THREATS is a really twisted book. Of course, I mean that in the best of ways, the romance between this couple is sweet and their moments together a nice break from the lies, deceit and twists that fill the pages.

SUSPICIOUS while an amazing read and very descriptive as all Ms. Graham's books are when it comes to feeling as if you are in the midst of this world, it was also a bit far-fetched. Well, at least I hope it is as it deals with genetics and very, very large gators.

TANGLED THREATS & SUSPICIOUS will have you glued to the pages until the very end and leave you wondering just how this author came up with this plot. Without a doubt, there is a happily ever after for all but the bad guys and that is how it should be.

Terrific book that sucked me in right from the start. It began with a prologue when Maura and Brock were eighteen-year-olds working at a local resort. They were in love and had plans for the future. But the horrific sight of a body hanging from the notorious History Tree, and Brock's subsequent arrest as a person of interest, derailed their plans. Even though he was released almost immediately, Maura's parents had taken her away. Now Maura is back at the resort filming videos and fighting the memories. Brock, who followed through with his plans and became an FBI agent, is sent to the resort to investigate the disappearance of several women and the remains of another.

I enjoyed the rekindling of the romance between Maura and Brock. They were stunned to see each other again after so many years. Their initial interactions were awkward. Brock remembered his heartbreak as Maura disappeared from his life, and she spent years hurt and angry that he never contacted her. But underneath the awkwardness and anger burned the feelings that never went away. I liked seeing them reconnect and get to know the people they have become since the events twelve years earlier. As they spent time together working on the disappearances, the chemistry and feelings between them continued to grow. Brock was protective of Maura and worried about her as the investigation heated up. Meanwhile, Maura worried just as much about him. I felt Brock's fear over Maura's safety at the end, and Maura's confidence that he would find her. I liked how they came together at the end, with their young love maturing to match who they are today.

The suspense of the story was very good. I was drawn in immediately by Maura's recounting of the story of the history tree and the ghost Gyselle. The descriptions were vivid, and I felt as though I was there. The terror at the sight of the hanging body leapt off the page. Twelve years later, FBI agent Brock was specifically requested to come to Florida to help with the investigations. That the person doing the requesting was the same detective who had arrested Brock was a nice touch, and gave an extra layer of déjà vu to the story. Maura arrived at the same time to do a video about the History Tree with her client. The presence of so many of the people from that previous summer gave Brock a wide variety of possible suspects for his investigation as it began to look like the resort was at the center of the disappearances. Every time I thought I had the villain figured out, someone else would make me question my decision. The tension increased as Brock moved closer to solving the crime, and he became especially concerned for Maura's safety. I was on the edge of my seat as his fears came to pass. I loved Maura's presence of mind and determination as she refused to become a victim. The final confrontation had an unexpected twist to it, as my suspicions about one character proved true, but I was blindsided by the involvement of another.

I liked catching up with the characters from that first summer. Besides the changes that Brock and Maura went through, it was interesting to see what transpired for the others. Some truly surprised me while others hadn't changed at all. I also liked the bit at the end about Brock's life in New York and his connection with Finnegan's.

*My review copy did not include the "Suspicious" title

The story is web of mystery that keep readers wanting more not just from the 2nd chance romance but why or what is causing people to be killed at the History Tree. The story was almost perfect until the end which for some readers might not make any since. The author tries to hard to intertwine characters but the ending is just too far fetch for readers to enjoy the ending. The different characters are will at times confuse readers as to who is who.

The story is decent read for those who love Heather Graham. The beginning started off strong the middle was slowing down and the end didn't make any since just to nicely tied up in a bow.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher Harlequin Intrigue for the advance copy of Heather Graham Tangled Threat.

The only book attached to this record was Tangled Threat, there was no Suspicious. As usual it was a great story with twists and turns.

Could not access the Suspicious book through the digital ARC I downloaded.

Tangled Threat was a great stand alone book by Heather Graham in the tradition of her FBI Krewe series although it does not have the paranormal bent that many of her books are known for.
