The Plot to Cool the Planet is about an outspoken climate scientist is murdered. Investigators believe she was assassinated to end her forceful advocacy for untested geoengineering techniques that might slow global warming.
I quite enjoyed reading this book. The storyline was easy and interesting as were the characters.
An excellent capture of facts wrapped in an interesting story. I found it compelling as someone who has just under the surface level knowledge of environmental issues and also loves to read a good mystery. I give it 4 stars because it is still a bit clunky transitioning between the facts and fiction. I mainly love it because it is so very important. It was just hard to keep reading when it got dry.
3.5 stars.
As an environmental health science student, I found the concept to be very interesting but after reading this, I found the execution to be a bit disappointing.
This book is dense in information about global warming, politics, law and police work even but because there's many perspective, the info tends to be repeated many times. In my opinion, it was honestly redundant. I think the whole thing could have been 300 pages instead of 500.
Another thing that really bothered me was the writing style. It didn't feel like I was reading a fiction book. I felt like I was reading a collection of articles or a history book. I didn't like this third point of view style. It was like I was a ghost that could read minds with the power of teleportation and I wrote my findings down.
On the other hand, I found the concept of the SRM to be very interesting and how the characters proceeded with executing it. However, I wasn't satisfied with the investigation's conclusion. It didn't end up being that notorious as it was advertised.
Overall, I enjoyed this book enough to finish through it but half the time I was tired of rereading the same info especially with how long the book was.
Thank you Netgalley for providing me with the digital copy for an honest review.
This is very good. It's long, but covers a lot of ground, including science, politics, and more. With an engaging plot and interesting characters, this kept me engaged. The author is obviously talented, and I look forward to his next book. Recommended.
Thanks very much for ARC for review!!
A quite fascinating thriller about the scientific aspects of climate change and the drastic lengths to which some individuals and corporations and governments will go to either conceal and deny it, or to alter it, THE PLOT TO COOL THE EARTH features well-realized characters and extensive background into science, politics, governmental bodies, and the extreme dangers potential with intensified climate change. High suspense, tension, and thrills propel this thriller and will keep readers glued to the pages.
I appreciated the climate science in this book and how timely and critically important the subject is. I especially enjoy fiction that approaches scientific topics and makes them more accessible. After a quick and dramatic start, the book moved slowly and the global politics surrounding climate change and how to handle it became the main focus, As a treatise on climate change and related global politics, this book was thorough and enlightening.
