Fans of Munsch will love this cute book about moods. Love the illustrations and story.
This is an adorable Robert Munsch book!
In this book, there are a variety of illustrations of his famous characters. Each character illustration shows a different emotion that they were feeling at that time in their story. I recognized almost all of the illustrations from his famous stories.
I was surprised to see such a variety of emotions represented in all of his books. This book is very relevant today since there is a large focus on different emotions today, especially depression and anxiety. Children have these emotions as well, which is important to recognize.
I loved this story! It’s short, but great for young kids.
Thank you Annick Press for providing a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
What happens when you take all your favourite Robert Munsch characters and put them together? You get this wonderful little book!
In Classic Munsch Moods, readers see characters from other popular Munsch books acting out different emotions. Each page is one emotion, and helps children identify what they’re feeling, and what it may look like. The illustrations are familiar, since they’re all done by Michael Martchenko. Readers of all ages will recognize the drawings, and be able to relate to their favourite characters in this new book.
I’ve always been a fan of the Paper Bag Princess, and loved seeing her standing tall in front of the dragon in this book, showing what “bravery” can look like. Hopefully other readers will spot their favourite characters too.
This book is geared towards readers under the age of five, but I’m sure adults will enjoy taking it out at story time. It’s a great resource to teach little ones about different emotions, and give them an outlook to help communicate their feelings.
Thank you to the publisher for sending me an electronic copy of this book via NetGalley. Classic Munsch Moods came out on September 3, 2019, and can be purchased wherever books are sold.
This was good for a book of moods. Simple words and pictures that express each mood clearly. Easy for a child to understand and fun and interesting for any adult.

There are too many of these concept books out that copy and paste illustrations from classic works. Would rather have something original.
What fun! A new book illustrating feelings and, well, yes moods. The pictures are darling and – huzzah! – my favorite paper-bag princess and her dragon are there too. Alas, there’s no story but it’s darling and fun.
My thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for a review copy.
A book on this topic is definitely a worthwhile endeavor; however, in this particular case, the delivery was terrible. The content is too vague, and the illustrations were confusing and disorienting. One specific example is the page in which ”caring” shares an incredibly creepy illustration. I'm not sure if this book was a sequel to something, but I was just left confused.
The Classic Munsch Concept Series by Robert Munsch features all those wonderful illustrations from his books, but are used to teach and share a concept. This one talks about moods. The book opens with the question, "How do you feel today?" Each page that follows features an illustration from one of Munsch's stories depicting a feeling. The text is one word per page describing the feeling. This is a board book which is geared to toddlers or young children, but when I shared this book with my grandchildren, I think my 5 year old interacted with it more. They both loved the illustrations as they have heard these stories over and over. My grandson would often recognize the story the original illustration came from so we would talk about what was happening and why the characters felt a certain way. My granddaughter (3) enjoyed the illustrations and identified several of the feelings based on facial expressions and body language, but that was about it. I can see kindergarten and preschool classrooms using this book to discuss feelings, the idea that it is okay to have feelings, using cues to identify how someone feels etc. I do like these books and if you are a Robert Munsch fan, you will want to add these books to your collection.
This picture book gives Robert Munsch fans the chance to relive some of their favorite tales while teaching kids about emotions. Love, love, love!
Robert Munsch is one of my favorites, and I always love his illustrations. I was a little disappointed that each page was just the feeling and illustration to go with it, and there wasn't any sort of overarching story. That said, it would be a good book to talk about feelings for preschoolers, and I was really amused to see the Paperback Princess in there.
This is a cute book with fantastic illustrations, While there weren't many words throughout the book, I liked how it would help little children express their feelings. It also forces these children to think about how they might feel tomorrow.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for providing me with an advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.
A big thank you to NetGalley and Annick Press Ltd for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is a children's book. Fun book with nice graphics. I think this could put a grumpy toddler into a better mood. I would recommend. 4 stars
Classic Munsch Moods is a wonderful beginning book for teaching children about feelings. The classic illustrations allow children to see what faces and bodies might look like with certain feelings. This would be an excellent baby gift or read aloud for young children.
Who doesn't love Robert Munsch books? Kids adore them ( and so do adults). Classic Munsch Moods aligns with Classic Munsch ABC and Classic Munsch 123 and voilà.... another winner emerges!
The talented Michael Marthenko's illustrations are revisited, taken from previous books of the best selling author. This series of books introduce a whole new generation of kids to the hilarious world of Munsch and creates nostalgia for older readers who were previously acquainted with them.
In this particular board book kids identify and have fun emulating 21 different moods/ emotions. The illustrations are packed with action, detail, and unadulterated fun from cover to cover. Martchenko has included three new ones for readers to enjoy. The Classic Munsch book series is designed to help toddlers become familiar with important primary concepts in playful Munsch fashion. I highly, highly recommend this book.
I love Robert Munsch's books! They always amuse, teach and gratify both children and adults. This book is no exception. Munsch's unique illustrations capture the many moods depicted in the book in many different ways. Bravo!!
This is really 'Classic Munsch Moods'. The illustrations are all in the vein of all of Munsch's previous work.
This is a really good book for teaching young children how different emotions are reflected by body language and facial expressions. The illustrations do a great job of getting children to infer the emotions being shown on the page.
And it also brings across the points that we can feel many different emotions throughout the day, and these emotions are completely normal based on the situations we find ourselves in.
Another great work by Robert Munsch.
I’ve been following Mr. Munsch for many years now. I’ve never met this author, but I think he must have a lot of little kid in him. I just love the Classic Munsch-style!
Now in ONE book, the classic Munsch characters are back, all here to help young Munsch fans understand and articulate their feelings. Elizabeth and other familiar friends are joined by new faces to help us view the wonderful range of emotions we might experience in a day.
Thank you for reintroducing my old friends to me in a new book.
Another great book by Robert Munsch! The illustrations are definitely classic and I like that kids will be able to read this and interact by showing the “Moods” on their face or act it out! This will be one I make sure my Grand-babies have on their bookshelves!
I read another book from this series, Classic Munsch 123, earlier this year. This book uses the same premise (taking illustrations from classic Munsch/Martchenko favourites), but this time, instead of numbers, it deals with feelings.
Whether it's Elizabeth being "brave" as she stands up to the dragon, Mortimer's dad feeling "grumpy" as he tries to block out his son's exuberant noise, or Angela feeling "curious" as she steps into the airplane, each concept is clearly illustrated. The facial expressions on the characters make their feelings clear, which is helpful for kids who might be having trouble with recognizing some of these moods.
It's a simple concept and a simple book, but the pictures are fun to look at. Munsch/Martchenko fans will love trying to pick out which illustration is from which book, while those new to the author/illustrator duo's work can just enjoy the appealing artwork. This is definitely another winner in the series.
"Classic Munsch Moods" by Robert Munsch was a beautifully illustrated board book for kids about recognizing your moods and feelings and being able to verbalize them with others.
This board book is geared to young children between the ages of 2 and 5 years old and is illustrated by Robert Munsch with his classic characters that both young and old can identify with. This would be a great book for helping toddlers and youngsters to communicate feelings that they might be unable to communicate otherwise.
