"Sometimes we need to say goodbye to someone we love, and that makes us sad."
Quinn is an inquisitive, excitable, and compassionate owlet with a heart for the least of these. She and her mother care for an injured firefly. Naturally, Quinn becomes very fond and is heartbroken when the bug vanishes. Her pursuit of the lost creature leads to an unexpected but delightful discovery. Sydney Hanson's illustrations are gorgeously rendered; I'd like to know more about how the graphics were made.
Thank you so much for allowing me to read and review your titles.
I do appreciate it and continue to review books that I get the chance to read.
Thanks again!
"Goodbye is never easy, but God can make it better," What a sweet book for children! I am really grateful for Christie's ministry to moms and kids and her books on Quinn do not disappoint! I love how it gives a script and help for kids to process loss, and highly recommend it. From learning about a loss, to how to process and talk about it, all in simplistic cut-to-the-heart language necessary in children's books...this is something that unfortunately we will all have to come to time and again with our kids. A treasure for children and adults alike to learn the simple act of validating our own feelings and that God is there with us.
Adorable little book. The artwork is beautiful and cute.
Nice resource to help kids cope with loss of loved ones, with the help of faith (God)
Quinn the Owl makes a new friend one night who needs her help, Blink the firefly. For many nights, Quinn keeps watch over Blink as his light returns. One night, Quinn wakes up to find his friend is gone. She flies off in search of her friend, wondering why he has left. She learns that although friends may come and go, there is always a reason and God will always be with her.
This beautiful picture book includes a note to parents and a few facts about fireflies at the end of the story.
It could be used to help children deal with and understand loss and to help them to understand they are not alone.
I particularly like the illustrations in the book. With their neat, soft edges I can almost imagine I'm in the forest alongside Quinn and her family. The emotions are reflected brilliantly through the wide eyes of the owls and the pictures complement the story well.
5 wonderful sparkling stars ⭐️️⭐️️⭐️️⭐️️⭐️️
Wonderful book! I plan to buy several copies to give to young children in my life. This book would be a wonderful addition to public libraries, nursery school libraries, elementary school libraries, home libraries and Sunday School libraries.
Special thanks to Harvest House Publishers and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC of QUINN SAYS GOODBYE: Friends May Go Away, But God Is Here to Stay written by Christie Thomas and illustrated by Sydney Hanson.

This was a lovely little story that has a strong focus on both friendship and then loss.
I thought that the book handled the loss of Quinn’s friend very well and it would be a great way to bring up the top with younger children too if they lose a loved one.
I thought that the images in the book were lovely and my young daughter agreed.
It is 4 stars from me for this one, it is a lovely story, highly recommended
Simply put, Quinn Says Goodbye by Christie Thomas and illustrated by Sydney Hanson, is a beautiful story, with beautiful illustrations and a beautiful message.
This delightful release from Harvest Kids, a division of Harvest House Publishers, tells the story of Quinn, a young owl who wakes one evening to find an injured firefly in need of her care next to her nest.
As she and her mama nurse the little firefly back to health, Quinn takes a liking to the little bug, whom she names Blink. She delights in the glow of Blink’s tail and watching him fly. Each time she wakes at night, she looks forward to seeing her new friend.
After caring for Blink for quite a while, Quinn wakes one night to find Blink gone and is heartbroken. Her mama gently reminds her that they talked of how one day Blink would be well enough to fly back to his own family. Quinn doesn’t want to hear this and takes off, determined to find Blink and bring him back to her tree. She flies all through the trees, unable to locate blink. She returns to her mama exhausted, heartbroken and wanting to know why God didn’t just make Blink stay with them.
Mama tells Quinn that while God doesn’t always stop bad things from happening, he is always there for her when they do happen, and God will always be her friend.
This lovely story ends with Quinn and Mama praying to God about missing Blink yet thanking God for his love and never leaving her.
I absolutely loved this book and think it would be a wonderful story for young ones who are going through a loss or encountering bad times. I believe it does a good job of taking a heavy subject that can be hard for children to understand, and putting in a way that allows them to understand at a simple level that God always loves them and no matter what is happening, God is always there for them.
There was also a fun extra feature of neat information on fireflies, as well as questions and scripture adults can use to ask children after they read it to ensure that they understand the meaning of the story.
I highly recommend this book.
Quinn Says goodbye is a story about an owl named Quinn who takes care of a firefly named Blink when he find him injured.
This book shows children about the values of kindness and caring for others. It also shows them about loss and grief.
Even if you don’t believe in God this book has a great message about loss.
Delightful book for any child to read or have read to them. I read this to my granddaughter and she is only 2 months old. Loved the characters and the story was amazing.
Quinn is a baby owl and she finds an injured firefly and helps to take care of it. Quinn even names the firefly Blink. One day Blink is gone and Quinn is devastated as she really loved Blink.
Quinn Says Goodbye is a good picture book that shows children that goodbyes (and grief) happen and it is ok to be sad about the loss. Quinn Says Goodbye has a religious context to it and shows faith and even though God may let bad things happen, He will always be with us and take care of us.
This picture book can definitely help younger children deal with grief in a comforting way no matter the loss, and this story has a sweet ending. Whether the loss is a family pet, family member, a favorite toy, or even a move, this story will help children positively.
There is also a “Did You Know” section about fireflies, so children can learn about them. There are also Bible verses mentioned to help enhance the story and open up a discussion with your child and their grief if needed.
I loved the illustrations! The colors have a peaceful and calming effect to them as you read the story. I adored the owls and was excited to find out that there is another Quinn book which is already out: Quinn's Promise Rock: No Matter Where, God Is Always There.
Special thanks to the publisher, Harvest House Publishers, for granting me an e-arc copy via NetGalley. It was a pleasure to read and review.
For me this was a wonderful story in so many ways! Firstly, I love this story for the little children that will face loss in their lives as we all do whether it be the simple loss of a special blanket or stuffed animal to the loss of special people, such as a beloved family member like an elderly grandparent or a special friend when you move to a new school or they do. Secondly, the story helps the child understand that those losses are a normal part of life that happen to everyone now and then. At the same time letting the child know that even though something is gone that God will never be gone...he will always be there loving them with comfort and love. At the end of the story...I love that there are specific Bible verses that can be read to reiterate God’s love and websites to visit for further information. As if that is not enough there is also a small blurb about the facts about fireflies and how they produce their lights and the different colors that the lights can be, etc. Because I am a Grandmother of two children that are living with a mother and father that do not teach their children about the Lord...this book is even more valuable to me and is very much appreciated! I thank the publisher, Harvest House Publishers and the Author, Christie Thomas and NetGalley.com for giving me the opportunity to read and review this precious little book perfect for my two young grandchildren.
This story is about a thoughtful baby owl saves a small firefly. They become friends, but eventually, Blink flies off to be with the other fireflies. He tearfully asks his mother, "Mama, why didn't God make Blink stay with me? Didn't he know how much I loved him?" This is a question parents may be asked by their little ones and it is a tough question. Mama answers Quinn and her to pray to God and share her sadness and sorrow with him. Quinn feels God's closeness as well as her mother's hugs. This story is about loss and that through our sadness and grief, God will always be with us. A simple story using animals to teach about loss, in this case a friend, but it could also be used to deal with loss of life as well. I read this story to my grandson who immediately related it to his grandfather who is in heaven watching over him. The illustrations in this book are beautiful. Done in muted pastel shades with large images add much to the story. A great story for a family or church library.
This is a special book dealing with loss of a loved one (it is firefly in this book, but the example works for many things like beloved pets, farm animals, and special people in little ones lives) and this story gives children a wonderful example of how to deal with loss and how we do not get everything we want and things don’t always go the way we want. It is a Christian book, told in a Christian perspective and even has discussion questions at the end. It is a beautiful book to help young ones deal and learn how to process loss.
Quinn says goodbye is a beautiful book for both children and adults. The illustrations are absolutely beautiful. I love the rich colors and the adorable owls.
The story is a deeply heartfelt tale that parents and teachers can use to teach young children about what it means to lose a loved one. The plot deals with Quinn, an adorable little owl, who loses his friend, the lightening bug. The reason for the loss of the friend is left ambiguous. This book could be a way for parents to teach children about death, but it could also simply help parents to teach children about what it means to have a friend move away. Everyone will experience loss at some point in their lives and, "Quinn says Goodbye," can help children learn to process those feelings.
I highly recommend this book for parents and Sunday School teachers.
Quinn the owl meets a new friend: Blink the firefly. But when she wakes up, she finds that Blink is gone. When she asks her mother why God made Blink leave even though she loved him, Mama Owl tells her that though God doesn't always stop bad things from happening, He's always with you to keep you safe and loved.
Quinn Says Goodbye has lovely illustrations and has a wonderful message for children in times of loss, whether their grief is over losing a friend, a family member, or a favorite toy.
Much like Patrice Karst's The Invisible String, I highly recommend Quinn if you have a child dealing with grief due to loss, especially if you are looking for a book with a strong Christian message.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing this copy for review.
Quinn Says Goodbye by Christie Thomas is a great book for young children about both helping others and experiencing loss. The book also has wonderful illustrations.
I recommend this book for children/adults that have experienced any kind of loss, whether that is a pet, a family member, a friend.
I requested and received an Advanced readers Copy from the publisher and Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Quinn our friendly owl makes a new friend with a firefly named Blink. Quinn is happy with his new friend but when Blink doesn't show up, he becomes very sad and doesn't understand why his friend went away.
A concept that can be difficult to understand even for adults but the concept teaches us about God and how we practice faith when we don't understand. It is a teaching tool that can look at different perspectives that we don't have control but we can trust in the one that does.
The story is short and with colorful illustrations, your child will become engaged is in his emotions and the emotions of Quinn. Highly recommend.
A Special Thank you to Harvest House Publishers and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.
I received a copy of this arc from Netgalley for an honest review. Quinn the owl saves a young firefly named Blink and the my become friends and then one day Blink doesn’t come out and Quinn doesn’t understand. The lesson is that God is always with Quinn. Cute story, positive message.
This was a short, but sweet story about loss. I think this would be a good read for small children, especially those dealing with a loss of their own. The artwork is beautiful also.
