The Other side of Him is the first book I have read by Alice Rene.

It was a short read as I was able to finish the book in one sitting. However, the storyline was interesting and the characters were well developed.

Overall, it was a fun read. Looking forward to reading more from this author.

I didn’t care for this one. The dialog was forced and unrealistic, which is one of my biggest pet peeves when reading. I didn’t love the characters but I did enjoy the glimpses into the time period.

The author did a brilliant job of capturing the time period in this novel. The characters and plot were also well written. This was a great piece of historical fiction!

This was a quick read. Normally not what I read romantic thriller. I'm glad I did and will be looking out for this author again. Thank you for the arc to review!

Alice Rene did a masterful job in pulling the reader into The Other Side of Him. The sense of foreboding with every interaction between Claire and Greg was clear, but the suspense of what it would all amount to made this an alluring read. Historical setting, psychological thrills, murder, and a strong female lead all culminating into an unexpected love story— what’s not to like?

This book was a quick read for me, and did a great job combining historical fiction and thriller genres. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a free copy in exchange for review.

I volunteered to give an honest review in exchange for a free copy of the book. Claire is a German immigrant, and the story takes place right after the 2nd world war. This is a true story. It's the 1950s. Claire uses her scholarship to go to college in California. She goes on a blind date set up by her brother. This man helps her discover a new world. He introduces her to the finer things in life, and things are good for a while. He starts to show that he has a temper, and he starts to become controlling. Her friends encourage her to ignore the warning signs. I feel for Claire as she has no support when she decides to end the relationship. During this time period, there aren't laws to protect her.

The dialogue is mind numbing, so ludicrous and amateurish I think my five year old daughter could have done better (and I may be insulting my five year old). Story is inane, characters are laughable. I mean, really, with all these fabulous we'll written suspense novels out there, who would bother wasting their time with this one? Sorry, but zero stars!

Claire has grown up without her father (and is better off for that considering he was a Nazi) raised by her mother in the Chicago projects. When she graduates school it is expected by her mother that she will immediately go to work and help with bills until she finds a husband, which her mother considers to be a top priority. Claire has other plans for herself more important than finding a man, and after landing a scholarship she sets off to pursue her dream. When she first meets Greg she is overwhelmed with the world he shows her. He is certainly everything her mother seems to want for her. It isn't long before Claire discovers that Greg has a far darker and more dangerous side than he presents to the public.
