Mom's Perfect Boyfriend by Crystal Hemmingway is told through a series of emails, texts, letters and journal entries, all of which make it a well-paced read. The format evokes a sense of fun (verging on the ridiculous at times) as the relationship between the mother and daughter characters develop (or should that be unravel?)
It takes an unusual look at romance and the effects a new “relationship” has on a family. That said, the mother-daughter bond is relatable, as are the sibling showdowns. Dysfunctional families are really only normal after all, although the degree of disfunctionality is debatable … and unique to each family.
A fun read overall.

It wasn't a bad book, but I didn't LOVE it. It felt very slow for the first half and then very rushed at the end. It was a fun, easy read and was enjoyable. I don't think I'd read it again, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

I did like this book even though the title didn’t really appeal to me. The “don’t judge a book by its cover” thing! Well done.

This book was so much fun to read. I cannot wait to read more from this author.

Mom's Perfect Boyfriend is about mothers and daughters, told in an addicting, fast-paced style. The storyline was easy to follow and I loved the characters. A must-read.

A charming novel. I enjoyed the conversations back and forth, the diaries kept..but most of all it hit some lovely tender feelings between mothers and daughters.

A quick and easy read.

As a lot of the book is text and email there isn't a lot of reading on a page so it is quick to get through. The rest of the book is told through journal entries, which as one is the point of view of the daughter and one the Mother, you get to see both sides of the story.

A little far fetched that the Mother thinks the android is human - although if you watched "Humans" on tv I guess it could happen! As only the daughter is aware of the android, there are a few comical moments.

A book that is perfect for a beach/holiday read.

Although a little slow to get going I ended up enjoying this book. I found it very funny in places and actually quite enjoyed the way it was written in emails, blog posts etc., although that did take a little bit of getting used to.
Overall this was an enjoyable read that I would recommend.

When I started reading the book, I was not sure how it will turn out. But I am so happy that I continued with the book. This is a hilarious read. Once into the book, couldn't put it down. New concept, written as chats, blogs, journal entries, a totally new format. Absolutely loved the book. Hoping to read more from Crystal Hemmingway in future.

Hilarious! Any lover of Bridget Jones will enjoy Mom's Perfect Boyfriend! It had me in stitches throughout - I just couldn't put it down. Can't wait for the next one by Crystal Hemmingway.

I wasn't sure if I'd enjoy the format of the book, which was a mixture of emails, text chats and journal entries. I actually really liked it and immediately warmed to the characters. The plot was an interesting one and possibly one that could actually happen one day in the future. A nice light-hearted read and I'd definitely read more from the author.

This was a very cute book! The characters were fun and the book was really easy to get through....definitely recommend!

Crystal has to move back with her mother (Margot) when she loses her job and her life starts going wrong. Her mother is domineering, but that doesn't alter the fact that this is such a funny book, with lots of out loud laughing.
It is written in diary form, text messages and e.mails which may not appeal to some but I didn't mind. With an android boyfriend thrown into the mix and other likeable characters, this book is a good chuckling read.

Quirky, lighthearted feel good read , well written in a unique style, a bit of a slow burner to start with but well worth reading, enjoyable on the whole.

Thanks to Net Galley for a advanced copy for an honest review. This book is very strange, it is basically written as a bunch of text messages and emails. But it shines on a very dysfunctional family and I loved Mom's thankful s at the end of her journal entries. Crystal has a boyfriend and they are going to Hawaii, guess who tags a long? Mom, then Crystal's boyfriend decides to take a "break" meanwhile Crystal's sister Lisa works for a cyborg dating app company. Crystal and Lisa chat thru messages, which are hilarious all while Crystal loses her apt, job and starts writing a book. This was a strange fun read.

I love books with lots of emails and text messages, so Mom’s Perfect Boyfriend by Crystal Hemmingway sounded right up my alley. Told through text messages, emails and journal entries it was a fast-paced chick-lit rom-com that focused mostly on the mother/daughter relationship.

Crystal’s mother, Margot, is pretty overbearing, even inviting herself along on a romantic holiday with Crystal and her boyfriend. This caused a kind of break-up with Crystal and her boyfriend, as well as her losing her job, requiring her to move in with mom. Crystal is a bit of a doormat and her mom is a bit crazy, but not as terrible as it seemed at the beginning. In fact, it’s Crystal who ended up being kind of a bitch and not appreciating that her mom was giving up her independence to take care of her grown daughter.

Some parts of Mom’s Perfect Boyfriend were fun and entertaining, but the journal entries got a bit weird and boring, and honestly, not much happened. Crystal tried to write a crappy book and some dino porn, her mom made marshmallows at the Farmer’s Market and was always failing in competition with a neighbor. This was supposed to be about a robot boyfriend, but he didn’t show up until at least 50% into the book, and it wasn’t really about him, as pitiful as he was, it was more about the mom/daughter relationship.

Mom’s Perfect Boyfriend by Crystal Hemmingway was certainly different, but the main characters were all a little bit pathetic. I really enjoyed it at first, then it just lost steam for me as I began to feel sorry for all of them. In the end, it was an OK read.

Dislikes:
•The characters were all kind of pitiful after a while.
•I got a little bored at times.
•The robot part didn’t happen till after 50%, and that was just kind of mean to trick their mom.

•The mom seemed overbearing at first but she was a nice lady and didn’t deserve to be set up for heartbreak.
•Crystal was a doormat.

The Down & Dirty:
I really wanted to love Mom’s Perfect Boyfriend by Crystal Hemmingway. I love books told via text, but this one, after an encouraging start, ended up falling a bit flat for me. I enjoyed the sister relationships and I liked all the texting, but the characters were all kind of sad, and I didn’t root for anyone or want to know more about them. It was a fast-paced, different read that I didn’t really think of stopping, and it was mildly entertaining at times.
