When Llewellyn said this is the "complete" book of essential oils, they meant COMPLETE. I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of information included in this book. For example, in the carrier oils section, they mentioned common marketing terms to prevent confusion on the reader's part when they attempt to make their purchases.
I expected to learn about medicinal remedies through massage oils, gels, ointment, salves, and balms, but I was surprised to see the perfume blending basics and personal care products.
This book is packed with information and will be a long-term reference guide for those determined to work with essential oils. I highly recommend it!
Llewellyn's Complete Book of Essential Oils is a valuable reference I plan on purchasing in hard copy. It contains very detailed information about over 60 essential oils plus common carrier oils, including precautions. There are formulas for treating all different health issues as well. One of the better essential oil books I've read recently.
As a trained and certified professional aromatherapist and Reiki master, I appreciated the foresight of this book, with precautions and information on safety, shelf life and oils and pets right at the start. With the widespread use of essential oils today, many authors overlook these instructions or bury it in the back, so it was refreshing to see Sandra Kynes make place for it out of the gate. I also appreciate how Kynes denotes that working with three notes is theory and not always practice …
The tables for oils and sun signs was particularly fun and a great reference to whip up a blend for a birthday gift. Additionally the tables on medicinal use and suggested remedies are excellent with lots of recipe ideas which is always welcome for an aspiring or professional aromatherapist.
Kynes dips into the chakras a little bit + the spiritual and magical uses of essential oils and Feng Shui. While entire books have been penned on these subjects, since this is a “complete book” it’s an excellent start and again offers fantastic recipes.
The oil descriptions are well written, and we’ll organized in content, plus, bonus, they also include recipes.
Although I do find this hard to read on kindle (as an advanced copy) I highly recommend the print version for easy reference, and to stock in a home library for aromatherapist of all levels and will be adding this to my library. ✨
This is book is more of a bible or Essential Oils. Its extremely comprehensive and detailed. This book covers every topic you can think of. The author provides detailed summary on different herbs and their uses as well as which oils to use on different ailments. Other topics covered are the chakras and which oils to use on unblocking each of the main 7, ancient usage, blending by scent groups, sun signs, how to use them in different parts of your home and more. The only think i wish the book included was pictures to go along with each herb described.
This is a must have for anyone with a basic interest to someone with the their own apothecary.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Llewellyn's Complete Book of Essential Oils teaches you how to blend, diffuse and create remedies and use them in your everyday life.,
The instructions are easy to follow and I have already tried a few and was pleasantly surprised by the outcome.
As an aromatherapist, I found a lot of useful information for beginners and experts alike. This really is a comprehensive book about essential oils and will be useful to many folks interested in going "beyond the basics" with essential oils.
I love essential oils. I use them in my home, my car, and on my body. There really are healing powers in many of the scents. I like to use both the oils and the dried plants for different things.
This book is a great guide for anyone interested in Essential oils. It is kind of like a Essential Oil recipe book with all the ways to blend and use scents. There are 100 recipes in the book. But this book doesn't stop there. There are Detailed profiles for 68 essential oils, Descriptions of 12 carrier oils and 2 infused oils, Remedies for 75 common ailments, and so much more. This is one of the best Essential Oil books I have read.
I received this book from the Author or Publisher via Netgalley.com and chose to leave this review.
This is a comprehensive bible for anyone interested in essential oils whether you're a novice or an old hand. Walks you through all the individual oils and their properties and helps you learn about blending based on scent but also for remedying particular ailments. Gives historical context and is thoroughly researched. Highly recommend.
This is a great resource for essential oils. There is detail information on the history of essential oils, oil safety, aroma therapy and new age oil usage.
This would be an excellent book for any beginner library..
Thanks Sandra Kynes & NetGalley for the ARC!!!
Perfect for anyone interested in essential oils, whether you're just starting out or have been using them for a while. The book begins with basic information- how essential oils are distilled, extracted, etc, a brief explanation of carrier oils, what the scientific names mean, and safety information. From there, we learn how to make perfumes, medical treatments, personal products, and home use, including feng shui uses. Then we get to the nitty-gritty: the essential oil profiles, which include everything you need/want to know about the different oils (with a recipe included for each one!), and a more comprehensive chapter on carrier oils and other ingredients. A must have book if you want to work with essential oils!

The title is correct in that this is a complete book of essential oils. In the past 2 years I've started using EOs, but information can be confusing. Kynes approach is informative and straight forward.
This book is an incredible wealth of information. I loved it so much in fact that I have purchased a finished copy for my bookshelves to use and reference often. I highly recommend it as someone who uses essential oils regularly.

"Llewellyn's Complete Book Of Essential Oils" by Sandra Kynes is an amazing guide with detailed descriptions of 68 essential oils , a list of carrier oils you can mix them with, several remedies using essential oils, and 100 recipes for numerous household uses. I enjoyed how the author in the beginning of the book explained a brief history behind essential oils . She explains the different processes of obtaining these oils which allows the reader to understand the difference in quality when purchasing essential oils and how to watch for poor quality oils. There is a safety section for referencing when selecting essential oils, which covers precautions for children, pregnancy and sensitive skin. This book is wonderful for getting the most out of your everyday essential oil experience.

Title: Llewellyn’s Complete Book of Essential Oils {How to Blend, Diffuse, Create Remedies, and use in Everyday Life}
Author: Sandra Kynes
Genre: Nonfiction (adult), Religion & Spirituality
Publisher: Llewelyn Publications
Publication date: August 8, 2019
I received a copy of this from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for a review. Thank you! All opinions are my own. *
I have MANY of Llewellyn’s products in my own personal collection; from books to almanacs to Tarot decks. They’re generally my most trusted publisher for all things “woo woo”. That being said, I still don’t just run out and buy everything they put out because
1. I’m poor, and
2. When it comes to topics like this that require thorough education and are advertised as “complete”, it has to be worth the price and not a bunch of fluff.
This book. Is. COMPLETE. I’m shocked at the amount of information covered in here. I have many books on the same topic that don’t even come close to this.
It’s broken into 7 sections, which I’ll try to summarize.
Part 1: History. Starting with ancient times, from Egyptians to Greeks to Medieval times to now. Also talks about safety practices.
Part 2: Blending. Explains scent notes (with charts) even has a chart of oils for each Sun Sign and complete instructions on how to make personalized Birthday scents.
Part 3: Healing Properties. VERY thorough section. Includes common ailments, oils associated with them, and tons of recipes/instructions for ointments, salves, baths, diffusion, etc.
Part 4: Beauty. Recipe and chart galore. Tables for skin types or hair issues, from dandruff to hair loss with the best oils to help. Recipes for face masks, moisturizer, body scrub, bath bombs, shower melts, room spray, and much more.
Also had a very in depth section about Chakras and how to add oils into your spiritual practice. Even has recipes for scented candles.
Part 5: Home Care. Recipes to freshen and deodorize, general cleaning (any cleaners you can imagine), and a very detailed chart for pest control. Includes a detailed section on Feng Shui.
Part Six: An in-depth profile of over 60 oils. This part was a pleasant surprise because it was PACKED with info. Each one even has its own recipe for something, either personal or home care. MORE RECIPES!
Part 7: Detailed section carrier oils, where they derived from, what they’re best used for, etc.
Appendix and glossary in the back for reference.
This is by far the best book I’ve seen of it’s kind EVER. And I have both owned and looked through a lot of them. I wish I had it in my hands right now. I feel like this is one of those ones that’d get all crinkly and bent and stained up from use. A well loved book.
I MUST FIND A WAY TO HAVE THIS BOOK! It’s going on my Xmas list!

Essential oils: you've encountered them in pharmacies, on gift shop shelves, and at holistic medicine displays.
Kynes presents a what, why, what for, and how to of using these oils in religious practice (she's a modern witch) and home life. While my faith conflicts directly with hers, I found some of the ideas for health useful. I skipped the religious chapters. I'd suggest you do the same.
Read with caution - it's as much a philosophy of religion as a manual for using naturopathic aids. (It fascinates me that earth-as-mother religions are presented without apology while ancient faiths such as Christianity are censored.)
Recommended with the same cautions.
I great book for people learning about essential oils. It starts off with the history of essential oils, how they are made, and then how they can be used. It even includes recipe blends to use. They great to have on hand. It also encourages readers to try their own blends.
This is an amazing and comprehensive book. In fact, I can stop buying any more essential oil books from this point on! (well, after I buy a hard copy of it because its so good it will need to live on my shelf and not just on my kindle). It goes through in depth descriptions of more than 60 oils, and then looks at carriers, remedies, chakra work and uses of oils around the home. Truly a reference book that you will come back to again and again; highly recommended.
