It is as if the universe put this book in my path because I was JUST becoming entrenched in the world of essential oils and their healing properties when I stumbled upon this book. If you practice magic, are a chakra worker, or are simply looking for some homemade remedies for self-care, this is the book for you. Sandra Kynes not only provides readers with a history of the uses of essential oils, but she goes into the science as well. The reader will be able to enjoy information about blending these oils, creating their own infusions, using the oils for magic work, learn about home remedies, and be able to craft some wonderful self-care recipes such as bath soaks, compresses, face masks, bath bombs, you name it. I have simply fallen in love with this book and will be suggesting it to anyone with even a slight interest in aromatherapy.

For this woman who likes to do a little witchen' in the kitchen, this book will prove itself to be a valuable resource. This is one of those books that I know I'm going to want a hard copy of as I conjure up some personal care, home cleaning and pest control products. I do own other essential oil reference books but here is where they lack and this author has hit a home run. Sandra Kynes has taken the time and put in the effort to include more than a reference of the oils themselves. She includes sections on chakra work and balancing with oils, Feng Shu for assistance with the flow of the home and spell work using oils, including candle magic. I especially loved the section on matching sun signs to scents to create your own perfume, something I'm looking forward to trying. Although I was offered an advanced copy of this book for an honest review, I will be first in line for a hard copy on release date. Many thanks to Llewellyn Worldwide and Netgalley for this ARC (all opinions expressed in this review are authentically mine).

You are getting a lot of different information - ex. history, diffusing, sprays. You are also looking at safety and shelf life of oils. Last two sections are looking at profiles about the different oils and carriers. A nice book for one to have for a collective information and able to branch out if needed.

*Thanks to NetGalley for this title. I read and reviewed this title voluntarily*

Wow! I'm blown away by all the info in here! It tells the history, the process for making the oils, and so much more! I will say that I knew next to nothing about essential oils before reading this book and now I'm got information overload! That's how much info is in this book! I know for sure that I will use it more in the future to look back on as well. A must have if you are even a little interested in essential oils!

Essential oils are used to make you healthy and in balance with your body's natural state. I read this in conjunction with THE ESSENTIAL OIL DIET and they complemented each other perfectly. As I age, and experience depleted hormones, more soreness after exercise and other mild maladies, my interest in and use of essential oils has greatly increased and these two books make it simple to find homeopathic solutions. Definitely worth owning!

After a substantial introduction telling about the author's personal history with essential oils, there is some well researched history of their use in various times and cultures.

We are told how to differentiate pure from synthetic commercial oils and about their processes. One thing I really liked seeing was safety guidelines and specifically safety for children and pets.

Details are given about shelf life and how to choose and blend oils. Perfume notes are explained, which I haven't seen in other books on the subject.

It goes into basics in a clear and concise manner and then into 'remedies'. After aromatherapy and self-care, it gets a bit new age with chakras and magical uses.

There's an interesting balance of practical and woo. The profiles of individual oils are well-informed and would satisfy any academic. We finish off with conversions and two different glossaries. Over all a well-written and pretty thorough book on the subject.

I volunteered to give an honest review in exchange for a free copy of the book pre-publication. This book is a very essential reference book for anybody's library if you use essential oils at all. It discusses the history of essential oils. There is a section on how to blend essential oils, uses for medicinal purposes, and use for around the home. There are recipes for different applications. The properties are listed for all of the essential oils, and there are a lot. I didn't know that there were so many until I read this book!

This is the best book about essential oils I've read to date. Tons of info on oils themselves, carrier oils and other materials (beeswax, aloe vera, etc.), and uses ranging from perfume to medicine to aromatherapy. One thing I really liked about this book is that Kynes broke out the oils from the "recipes," which really simplified things - you could find the oil you wanted to use, based on an ailment or scent, and then find a "recipe" you wanted to use it in (things like sprays, balms, soaks, etc.) and make exactly what you are after. Very useful.
