I felt this book was well written and did a good job of building the story. I haven't read the prequals but this didn't hinder the story for me. There was a good overview of past issues explained throughout.

The thing I struggled with was the fact that the guilty party was always known and there wasn't a twist which I'm used to in these sort of books. I expected to get to the end and find that Reece had killed the others because if his love for Riley but maybe that's just because of the books I'm used to reading.

There was good suspense at the end and a good ending which leaves people wanting to read on about what happened next.

I read the other books in this series and really enjoyed them. This book was so hard to read due to all of the printing errors in this book. It was like working a word puzzle to figure out the words. All the letters f, fl , of, fi, ff-- were missing from the words. Also when she received a text, most of the letters were missing. One text was C.W. One text .;D. one was M.W. I never did figure those out. I did finish the book and would have liked it if I did not have to spend so much time figuring out the words. I am not posting this online as it not the authors fault the errors were made

Redmond has written a great new story about Lauren and her partner in the Cold Case department. Picking up where the previous book ended, we follow Lauren's re-engagement with her police work and continuing healing from the stabbing that almost took her life. Obsessed with catching her old menace, David Spencer, Lauren skates very close to a line that could destroy her working relationship with her partner, as she participates in a special task force that could be the break she's been waiting for, a way to finally convict Spencer, but it also endangers those to whom she is closest. There a jaw-dropping ending scene, and I am anxious to read the next book in the series.

Thank you Netgalley and Midnight Ink for sharing the next installment of this series. Ms. Redmond has another winner here in book 3 of her Buffalo detective Lauren Riley series. I was fortunate to receive the 2nd book through Netgalley and liked it so much I immediately bought the first. I recommend reading them in order to fully understand the histories of the characters. Overall, I highly recommend this title and the series and hope there are more to come.

When cold case detective Lauren Riley returns to work after being stabbed by a fellow police officer, it's clear that her troubles are far from over. The body of a young woman has been found in the same woods as a murder victim from one of Lauren's most horrifying cases. It doesn't take long for Lauren to be back at square one confronting David Spencer, the quietly deranged man she could never prove was a killer. Lauren convinces the police chief to put together a task force to uncover the connections between the brutal slaying of both women and the murder of two cops. But things go south quickly, forcing Lauren into a deadly game that she can't afford to lose.

Thank you to net galley and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read this book it was a wild ride with this book

Holy cannoli – WHAT AN ENDING.. Each book in this series has been exceptional but this was definitely the crème de la crème.

Murder, tasks forces, main characters lives in danger, revelations, and one heck of a showdown made this one exciting book. These cliffy's are killing me but each book is so worth the read.

Having read book two of the series, I was excited with the opportunity to spend more time with cold case detective Lauren Riley. Still recovering from a stabbing, she is confronted by a new murder too similar to one from her past that still haunts her. In her workman-like way, Lauren fights to bring justice despite obstacles that make her job more difficult.

No one ever said being a cop was easy, but for Lauren Riley, it’s been nothing short of a nightmare. She’s still on the mend after being stabbed by another cop when she returns to work to find a body has been left at the very same dump site the killer used in a case that still gives Lauren nightmares. Back then, Lauren couldn’t prove that David Spencer was a killer, but now she’s out to bring him down. First she just has to convince her boss to establish a team to go after the guys who’s already killed at least two women and two cops. No matter what, this time Lauren will get her man…or die trying
