I have been enjoying Juliet Madison's Tarrin's Bay series ever since I picked up The January Wish. I just wish she didn't wait so long between "months." Thankfully, each story has different characters and plots (so we're not left hanging between books) and sometimes will feature characters from previous stories. Since Tarrin's Bay is a small town, there were a lot of cameos in her latest installment from the series, Home for June.

The novels in the Tarrin's Bay series are comfort reads. They are sweet stories that deal with various emotions the characters are going through in a given situation. I enjoyed getting to know Hannah and Luca and hearing both of their perspectives. I was rooting for them to get together the entire time and was frustrated when something got in the way of their chances. I enjoyed the entrepreneurial aspect of setting up a new restaurant. It sounded like a neat place that I would totally check out if it were real (and I was in Australia). It was amusing to read this as an American, as I kept expecting June to have hot weather. In Australia, it's on the verge of winter!

The only concerns for me were that the story felt a little slow in parts, such as when the characters were dwelling on why they couldn't make things work for a relationship. Also, some aspects felt too good to be true. While it is fiction, I felt like there should have been more obstacles involved.

I enjoyed this story overall and am looking forward to the next installment in the series. Especially since it will take place during my birthday month!

Movie casting suggestions:
Hannah: Abbie Cornish
Luca: Luke Arnold

I have enjoyed the previous books by Juliet Madison but unfortunately just couldn't get into this one, and didn't finish it. It just seemed underdeveloped and...boring. It just might not have been a good fit for me, so won't put me off future books by this author.
I received a free digital copy via NetGalley but the opinions expressed are my own.

I’ve enjoyed Madison’s books in the past but I found this one a bit underdone.

Hannah’s life in small town Tarrin’s Bay is going nowhere so she decides to move to Sydney for a new life. Meanwhile, Luca, her friend and crush when she was at school, returns to town with plans to open up a restaurant.

So, apparently, the conflict of the story is that Luca and Hannah will soon live in separate places. Unfortunately though it is noted that [fictional] Tarrin’s Bay is only two hours from Sydney. Seriously? Two hours? I can’t see this being such a hardship (especially in Australia where this is a casual drive down the road, for goodness sake). I would have probably accepted it though (it’s not the first book to have a distinctive lack of conflict) but that I found the rest rather bland.

There’s tiny bits of food porn (Luca is a chef) and a couple of sweet scenes involving Hannah’s pet dog but there really wasn’t enough of either to keep me interested.

Granted, there’s nothing offensive about Home for June and there’s nothing wrong with the writing per se but I just found it all a little bland.

Sadly, 2 ½ out of 5

I absolutely loved this lovely second chance romance. I have all of Juliet's books and I've loved every one that I've read. I have all the Tarrin's Bay books, but for some reason I haven't gotten round to reading any before now. Home For June was absolutely enjoyable, so I'm going to have to go back to The January Wish and start from the beginning of the series. They are definitely able to be read as standalone novels though.

I' m glad I have finally gotten to experience Tarrin's Bay, I think I'd like to move there in fact.

In Home For June we meet Hannah who is making moves to leave Tarrin's Bay to live in Sydney (big mistake, I hate cities). We also meet Luca who is returning to Tarrin's Bay after leaving 20 years beforehand. These two were friends in high-school and had a connection but nothing ever happened. Is it too late now or can they find out where that connection might lead.

I loved these two characters, Hannah and her plans, her need to have everything laid out exactly as it's going to play out. I enjoyed the times she let go and was spontaneous. But afterwards it was straight back to following the plan.

This is my favourite line and I'm lucky Juliet made a meme just for me to use (lol). Hannah was so stubborn about veering off the plan, I so hoped she could see what might be had by doing just that.

Luca was a beautiful guy, having lost his mum just recently and having made the decision to start a new and set down roots in Tarrin's Bay, I loved the way he threw some disorder into Hannah's carefully laid out plans.

I really enjoyed the interactions between these two characters, I liked how the relationship grew and changed and made them both take stock. Working together to create Luca's dream restaurant pushed them together and allowed for these changes.

I enjoyed the secondary characters, Hannah's parents especially, they were great people and cause for some added humour. Luca's brother Stefan had a great relationship with Luca, if only all siblings could have such a great relationship.

Juliet Madison always manages to infuse her novels with humour and this one is no exception. Her characters are relatable, as are their problems and circumstances. A lovely feelgood romance.

Home For June is heartwarming and just a lovely story. It’s sweet rather than sexy and all about relationships, not just the romantic type but familial and community as well. This is a second chance at love story told gently to allow readers to absorb all the subtle nuances. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and if you like life in the slow lane where you can stop and savour those special moments then you will too.

Much thanks to NetGalley and Harlequin Australia for this complimentary copy. This review is voluntary and opinions are fully my own.

📚 Series: Yes, 6th installment but can be read as a standalone.
📚 Genre: Romance
📚 POV: Third person single POV
📚 Cliffhanger: No.

⚠ Content Warnings: Grief dealing with family death.
⚠ Read if: you are into slow burn romances with so much pining on both sides.

Home for June is the sixth installment in the Tarrin's Bay series. It can be read as a standalone since the series features different Tarrin's Bay locals. Home for June revolves around Hannah, moving out into Sydney soon and selling their property, and Luca, Hannah's decades-long crush and future buyer of the property.

I felt like this book overshadowed the romance and focused on the community living in itself. There was so much on the history building, then how to launch a business. Very little on the romance, only on self reflection and hidden feelings and I have to admit I was bored most of the time.

A great bonus is Scarlet the dog and the cute chickens.

I am interested to reading the author's other works as I saw she has romantic comedy novels on her profile, but I'm quitting this series.

Home for June was a sweet story about finding the value of home. When we meet Hannah, she has never before left home, but she has plans. Sell her parent's property and head to Sydney. Her first perspective buyer is shockingly an old crush from high school. As the story unfolds Hannah becomes torn, should she stick to her plan finally leave home to spread her wings and find herself? Readers will be drawn into this quaint town of Tarrin's Bay and it's cast of characters.

From beginning to end this books characters were captivating! A new author for me and I look forward to more books of hers! This book is a page turner! I read it in less than a day. I loved that a second chance can turn into much more than Hannah ever expected! This book shows us we are given many paths in life, at time it's hard to choose because we are scared of making a life changing mistake! Does Hannah risk it all ? Will Luca find his way? A must read! I loved this book with its ups and downs, just like in all of ourvlives! Great read ! I highly recommend! Thank you to Net Galley and The publisher for my ARC copy in exchange for my honest review!
