Me as a fangirl: What a perfect analogy to explain otp height difference!
Me knowing I should be reviewing the book for children: Awwww, what a cute story about thinking outside the box!
I see a lot of negative reviews and comments that I don't understand. It's not meant to be life-changing intense Lit. It's a simple, sweet, adorably illustrated CHILDREN'S picture book. Also, did I request it mostly for the giraffe on the cover? Well, I guess we'll never know. 😁🦒📚💕
***Thank you Netgalley and Clavis Publishing for giving me the opportunity to review A Kiss For Giraffe.***
I'm not quite sure what the author was trying to tell it's young readers. We are introduced to Giraffe and Pig who are supposed to be best friends but yet Pig cant figure out a way to give Giraffe a kiss.
My 3 year old granddaughter immediately figured out that Giraffe should just bend his neck down so they could give each other a kiss. The things that pig tries, digging a hole for Giraffe, climbing a ladder to reach him, are just silly and don't make any sense.
The story was very short and the illustrations were nothing special.
I received an ARC of this book from the publisher through NetGalley.
Very cute. Story was a nice read. The kids enjoyed it. There could be a bit more wow to it. Will do a full review soon.
I received this arc from Netgalley for an honest review. Piggy loves giraffe and giraffe loves piggy. They would like to give one another a kiss but giraffe is too tall. How can they make it work?
A book to share with those who haven't really grown the need of plot or complexity – or indeed the ability to hold the book themselves. This prettily conveys a pig intent on giving his giraffe friend a kiss, but the twist as it is does kind of thrust an unintended moral on to things, when you realise the story would have been even shorter if the pig had stopped to think what his friend might be able to do. Still, it's an interspecies peck before bedtime, before we grow up to enjoy something else. Three and a half stars.
This was a very cute short story! I love how Piggy needed to be resourceful and find a way to give his friend a kiss. The illustrations were adorable and I think it was just the right length for a children’s book. I would pick up a copy for the littles in my life.
A Kiss for Giraffe is an illustrated hardcover book for toddlers (30 months up stated in the blurb) by Dutch primary school teacher and children’s book author, Judith Koppens. Piggy wants to give his best friend Giraffe a kiss, but he can’t reach. Piggy is persistent. He thinks up a number of schemes, each of which fails. The little robin redbreast looks on for each of these. The kiss is finally achieved quite by accident: an accident that has Giraffe concerned for the welfare of his friend.
It’s silly but quite sweet, and for toddlers, a fun story is as welcome as one that teaches. It is delightfully illustrated by Suzanne Diederen. Quite charming.

This could've been a good story about consent... had it gone far enough.
Piggy wants to give Giraffe a kiss. We don't know how Giraffe feels about this, so it's kind of unsettling to watch Piggy try various methods to level their heights so that he can lay a smooch on his friend (the first thing he tried was eerily reminiscent of the way stonings are carried out; he dug a hole and got Giraffe to stand in it so he could reach). Eventually, his attempt at using a ladder fails, and he falls. Giraffe then bends down and gives Piggy a kiss and Piggy says, "Now why didn't I think of that?" Maybe because he was so busy trying to kiss his friend without permission that he didn't think to ask!
This was a missed opportunity. At no point did Piggy say to Giraffe, "May I kiss you?" or "Would you like a kiss?" (If he had, the book would've been very short.) It was uncomfortable to watch this pig running around thinking of ways to kiss his tall friend; it had me thinking that maybe Giraffe just didn't want to be kissed at that moment, since he/she was staying well out of kissing range!
The pictures aren't that memorable (except for the creepy one of the giraffe in the hole) and I wasn't impressed with the story. I'd recommend giving this one a pass. Just because kids feel like kissing someone doesn't mean they should act on it... especially without permission.
Piggy wants to give his best friend Giraffe a kiss, but Giraffe is too tall for Piggy to reach. Piggy tries several things to try to reach Giraffe's head. A cute book that shows problem solving skills, but it is a bit too short, it would have been a better book if Piggy tried a few more options.
Firstly the illustrations for this book are very charming and will engage your young readers instantly. A definite plus point for any children's book.
Very sweet characters with nice, simple names that will make the children instantly want to get to know them.
A very quick storyline that I instantly loved. However, I feel as if it was over way too quickly and could have maybe benefitted from being fleshed out a bit more.
Pig and Giraffe are best friends and Pig wants to give Giraffe a kiss. Pig thinks of many different ways to try and kiss Giraffe, but most of them don't work. The ending was tied it all together nicely. This is a great story to read to a baby as it has bright colors and a simple message - keep trying!!! My daughter loves animals so I thought this would be a cute one to read to see if it would be something for her library. Ultimately, I would buy this for a baby shower or recommend to someone with a younger child than mine as the story is pretty straightforward and isn't that long. Nothing wrong with that! If you have a child 0-12 months I think this would be a great read!
Thanks to Netgalley, Judith Koppens and Clavis Publishing for the opportunity to read and provide an honest review on this cute book!
