I cannot wait for this book to be released June 11th!
The first five chapters (free, courtesy of Netgalley) certainly have me ready to know what happens next! The hype surrounding this book is real and very much earned. Abby Jimenez deserves all the praise for this delightful debut romantic comedy.
I did not really enjoy the first 5 chapters. The language and discussions about periods and sex are not resale in my interest. I think the book has a good plot and I would have enjoyed it more if the writing style was different.
This excerpt totally left me needing to know what happens between Josh and Kristen! They're definitely attracted to each other and seem to have so much chemistry. With things not looking great with Kristen's boyfriend, you can't help but wonder how it will all play out. Will Josh be stuck in "the friend zone"? I'm also so intrigued by Kristen's medical condition and what that means for her in the future. After reading these first five chapters I can't wait to read the rest of the book! Thanks NetGalley and Forever Romance for the excerpt!
I only got the read the first five chapters of this book sadly... but I LOVED it so much! I was so very sad when my little preview ended! I cannot wait to read the entire book in June! I've already fallen for the characters and am excited to see where their journey takes them!
I only got the first few chapters and I'm loving this story!!!!! I need more! I want to finish the rest! Send more to meeeee! (Also it's crazy because this story is about Kristen and Josh, and my name is Kristin and I have an ex boyfriend named Josh. It'll always be weird to see their names haha!)
I got to read the first 5 chapters..... I need the rest ASAP!!!!
*gimme gimme* 🙏🏼
I can't wait to read the rest of their story once the book is released
I read a preview of this book and it definitely seems like a fun read. Will definitely read the full length novel.
Thanks NetGalley for the free first 5 chapter preview!
Kristen & Josh’s first meeting, a tiny fender bender isn’t exactly meet-cute but the banter that ensues as they learn they’re no longer strangers from a car accident but friends of friends makes for a funny & cute hate-to-love story.
I’m looking forward to reading the rest of their story once the book is released :)
Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for the chance at reading this preview. 5 chapters were not enough and I need to read all of it. I am loving the banter between Kristen and Josh and can’t wait to see what happens between them. I found Kristen to be very relatable and I look forward to see more from her. This will be on my radar for when the book comes out to grab ASAP!
I read the preview of the first five chapters and was pretty charmed. I am definitely interested in reading more to see where the story goes!
I am so sad I only got the preview to this book - I cannot wait until it comes out and I can see what happens between Kristen and Josh! Even from the first few chapters, I can tell there are going to be fireworks.
I had fun in reading this review but now I'm craving for the rest of the book.
Can't wait to read it.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC.
I was given 5 chapters to read of this book and honestly, I'm in limbo. There is def chemistry between the main characters, but....... what happens next? I don't know. Guess I will have to wait till it's published. From the few chapters I read, it's a cute book and seems like a story I will enjoy.
Three stars as I can not form an opinion nor right more on the book based on the few chapters. What I can say that the book has going for it is..... a brassy leading lady, a sexy firefighter and a dog who is a good judge of character. Wish I could have read the whole thing. I follow the author on IG and she is very funny.
I will deb. buy the book when it comes out in June.
This preview whets my appetite to read the full version in a couple of months!!! These characters and this set up is SO good!!!
5 chapters is not enough of this book!! The characters are so relatable, you absolutely fall in love with them. I want to know what happens next! I'll definately be getting the full book once it is published!!
OK, I am going to start this with 5 chapters is definitely NOT enough. I need this entire book!! It was just enough to introduce us to the characters and show that there is going be a lot happen. Kristen at first came across as a raging bitch, but I assume we are going to find out why in later chapters. Josh is funny and I love the banter between the two. As someone who also suffers from a uterine disease and menstrual problems, without knowing what her issue is, I can already relate to her and wish I was able to know more! I am very upset that I only got 5 chapters of this! It wasn't enough to love it yet, but I definitely like it and am intrigued by it! This will be an amazing debut!
This preview convinced me that I’ll pick up the book once it’s published. I think the premise is interesting and think I’ll enjoy its unique plot.
The Friend Zone is about Kristen, a woman who can’t have children, and Josh, a man who wants a big family. Infertility aside, Kristen is in a long-distance relationship so Josh is relegated to the “friend zone.”
Ultimately, I did not enjoy this story and doubt I’ll read the rest. Based on this preview alone, I was concerned with the main character, who comes across as arrogant and sexist.
The Friend Zone opens with Josh and Kristen’s meet cute after a fender bender. While on a tampon run, Kristen spills coffee in her friend’s truck and slams on the brakes. Josh, in the midst of reeling about his soul-sucking ex-girlfriend, rear ends the car. Kristen is frustrated. Josh sees her as feisty and adorable and notes his "specialty for irritated women." He proceeds to put on his calm "crisis mode" demeanor because women be crazy.
Having a self-described specialty for a type of woman, particularly “irritated” women one has hit with a car, is cringe-worthy at best. This could’ve been a simple and funny exchange without condescending the heroine.
Josh continues to neg Kristen for the rest of the book’s preview, checking her out and feeling guilty for “getting caught doing it.” Kristen is a sassy not-like-other-girls trope who gets hangry and “doesn’t do hysterics.”
"It had been my experience that all women, even the ones you’re only having sex with, are on some level exhausting,” Josh says to himself.
I believe a book can be funny while tackling a dark subject, and this preview has solid jokes. Jimenez sets a nice pace with sub-plots I find interesting. I hope infertility is handled with sensitivity for the rest of this book, but it’s hard to tell at this point.
I ended up winning this book in a giveaway.
The Friend Zone is THAT BOOK!! You know the one I'm talking about, our FAVORITE, the one we talk about all year. I'll admit that I was nervous as hell about actually holding and reading this. It was one of my most anticipated books this year. It came highly recommended.
WOWWWW. This book was so much more than I expected it to be. I was so connected to these characters. I felt everything with them. I was smiling and blushing during their highs. I was also sobbing on their lows. The love will jump from the pages and grab your heart. I don't just mean the love between the couple. I mean the love for their friends, their family, Stuntman Mike and for the future they both want.
The only thing I'll say about Josh is he's PERFECTION. He's the man that girls dream of marrying. I connected with Kristen because she's basically me. I can relate to the stress cleaning. It's my go-to. It's all about taking control where you can. I'm an only child. I've also had the "thing" she faces and fears the most. You'll understand more when you read it.
There's so much more I want to say about this book but for spoiler reasons, I won't. I can't recommend this enough. The story was INCREDIBLE. It's BEAUTIFULLY written. It's a story that will stay with me for years.
Thank you for allowing me to read the first 5 chapters in the book, The friend zone. I enjoyed reading it and read it very fast. i could not put it down. The friend zone is full of fun banter, laughs and a great group of friends. I can't wait till June so that I can buy the book and finish reading it to find out what happens next. Abby Jimenez looks promising as an up and coming new author. I look forward to more books by her in the hopefully near future. Thank you again for allowing me the early preview for the book.
