Witty and romantic, The Friend Zone was just what the doctor ordered to get me out of a funk. Although a rom-com, this book also deals with real-world issues that make it more solid than your average run of the mill romance. I really enjoyed it!
Fun Rom- Com. I had to run out and buy this book after reading the excerpt. I love a good romance. I’m stoked for the next book- Happily Ever After Playlist.
I loved the Friend Zone preview so much that I ended up purchasing the book. After a rough start, Josh and Kristen become super close friends who end up having romantic feelings. I smiled, laughed, and read the whole book over two days. I was that into the story. Can’t wait to read the sequel and future novels by Abby Jimenez. .
Tremendously engaging preview. Kristen's salty, razor sharp wit had me grinning page after page, I was completely delighted by the preview, so much so that I immediately downloaded the full book.
This seems to be very interesting. Hoping to read the full book soon. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for this extended preview copy.
This was just a preview, but based on the preview, I ended up purchasing the book, and subsequently recommending it to several friends and colleagues who also read and loved it. While I was bummed I only got a preview, it was a great book. .
I actually am late to reviewing this book because I had read the entire book before I realized I had been approved for the preview. This book is so wonderful, with great tension, plenty of steam, and an undercurrent of more serious issues that pave the way for the subsequent book. I didn't love two elements of the book - how Kristen is a "guy's girl" (can we just agree that women have diverse interests and preferences just like a man?) and the "surprise" ending that felt implausible and perhaps triggering for women facing infertility.
Love, love, love this book!! Abby Jimenez hit it out of the park with her first book! I can’t say enough about the story. Her characters are so relatable it makes you forget your reading a book, it’s more like hanging out with friends. I am so looking forward to her next book to see where the journey of these characters takes them next!
I read this book recently before I had gotten to the author’s second book. Book two isn’t a sequel; but most characters are introduced in the first book and come back in the second. The friend zone is an amazing story! I was very surprised by it and very impressed with TFZ.
I loved this book so much! Like. . . .go back and reread half the book as soon as I finished it kind of love.
Interesting book.. I hope I was able to request for the whole book. Now, I have to wait for it to be on sale before I could read on 🙄
While this was just a preview, I loved it so much that I purchased the full book and plan to read it shortly! From everything I hear from others, this book is excellent, as well as the next one that she just published! Can't wait to finish the full title!
Wonderful preview of what is likely to be a fun, heartwarming but likely heartbreaking book. The main characters are instantly engaging and complex enough to be realistic and relatable.
I love picking up romances when I'm in the mood for a quick, fun, pick-me-up read. I'm not expecting Pulitzer-level writing or character building. Unfortunately, I hated this novel. After discovering the main character deals with fertility issues and incredibly painful periods, I was very interested to read The Friend Zone. I felt the ending was too ridiculous (even for a romance) and I did not like the romantic interest at all.
Loved this full book loved this small bit as well. Great writing and an interesting story and I love Kristen and Josh and all the struggles thy faced you felt the pain so you were touting for them so hard!
The Friend Zone was one of my favorite books of 2019. It was romantic, funny and a fantastic debut from Abby Jiminez. I loved the quick wit and the writing. The characters were relatable and fun. I would highly recommend this novel and can't wait to read more from her!
UGH I am so upset about this book. The first half of this book started off so cute and it was probably looking to be a 4/5 stars for me, until the last 20% of this book ruined it. The last 20% was really unrealistic and convenient and obnoxious and offensive to anyone who has actually experienced infertility and I'm upset about it.
Let's start with the positives: I love the romance between Kristen and Josh. They have great chemistry, it's very banter-y which I love. I was rooting for them to get together, I cared about their relationship, I loved that they loved Pulp Fiction. I love the fact that Josh is a fireman and he genuinely cares about people, and I love Kristen and her not-giving-a-fuck attitude. I loved their best friends Sloan and Brandon and their friendship with them was off the charts cute. I love how a lot of this book had this major dilemma: Kristen has terrible periods and is planning on getting her uterus removed and because of her uterus issues it causes her to be infertile. She sees this as a problem because Josh wants to have a giant ass baseball team of kids and he wants to have them the old-fashioned way. So we spend the majority of this book watching as Kristen tries to deal with falling in love with Josh and thinking there is no way for them to have a future. I'm sure there are infertile people out there who can relate to this dilemma Kristen was having. She feels like he has to give up something he's always wanted in exchange for her.
Besides the ending of this book, I found one other thing about this book to be incredibly annoying. And that is Josh's obsession with referring to Kristen as "the cool girl". It's 2019 and I'm tired of reading books about this special amazing girl who is "not like the other girls" and she's just so cool. Like can we stop putting down other women please? THANKS. He said it often in his narration and it drove me nuts. He said all the typical douche things like "the hotter a woman is the crazier she is" and annoying unacceptable comments like that.
Now for the ending. First of all, I'm really upset the author decided to kill off Brandon just to teach the main characters a lesson. That was some bull shit and I was so upset because I love Brandon's character and him and Sloan were so cute. There was no fucking reason to kill him off like that. SECONDLY, and most importantly her magically getting pregnant at the end was absolute bull shit. And people who have struggled with infertility deserve a better, more realistic ending than that. I know this is fiction, but not everyone gets a happily ever after like this and it's so offensive. And yes I know I read the author's note which pissed me off more because she goes on to say this is not a story about Kristen getting pregnant, but learning to accept herself the way she is.... but if that were the case, the story should not have been about her getting magically pregnant at the end. This could have been a really powerful story about infertility and how it sucks but it shows that it will be okay, but no - we get the bull shit fairy tale unrealistic ending. I feel like this will give people false hope and that sucks. I know you're probably thinking why do you care so much it's a fictional story? And it's probably because my own Mother struggled with infertility for nine years before she had me, and I don't think this story handles the subject very well at all.
Feedback sobre os 5 primeiros capítulos do livro.
Verdade seja dita que eu amo um bom clichê, e um dos meys preferidos é o dos amigos que se apaixonam. Logo, a sinopse (após a capa linda, obviamente) de The Friend Zone logo me interessou. Eu já imaginava que fosse ser um problema ler apenas 5 capítulos e ficar desesperada por mais ao final do arquivo, mas não foi bem isso que aconteceu.
A história é bacana.
Thank you for access to the first 5 chapters. Based on what I've read, I'll be seeking out the full book.
The Friend Zone was a quirky and fun but sometimes heartbreaking book. I really like a book that gives you a wide range of emotions. Thanks to the Publisher and to Netgalley for the preview.
The book has well developed characters and the story flows well. I would highly recommend this book.
