Her Deadly Secrets is another example of why I love Laura Griffin! Her books are such great romantic suspense! She weaves a great tale, layered with character development and mystery.

Kira is a PI who finds herself witness to a brutal murder. Now, she has to join forces with a guy she doesn't trust and accept the protection of Wolfe Security. Jeremy is the man assigned to be Kira's protection detail. Kira, being a PI, isn't just content to sit back and let the police solve this murder so she, of course, gets herself in even deeper. Now, I will say that thankfully, Kira is brave but not stupid. Sometimes in these stories the heroine does some totally dumb $4!t and puts herself in major danger. Kira is determined but not dumb. She is risky but not reckless. That made the story so much more believable to me!

The romance between Jeremy and Kira is kind of second fiddle to the mystery/danger and I was okay with that. The story puts Kira and Jeremy in some stressful situations and forced proximity so if the romance was the top point, it wouldn't have felt natural. I also appreciated that Griffin shows us Jeremy's struggles with having feelings for Kira. Again, that felt natural (I mean, she is a job for him).

Her Deadly Secrets will appeal to romantic suspense fans who appreciate a lot of danger and mystery with a backdrop of romance!

This is my first book by this author; it will not be my last! I am going back to buy the first book! It starts with a young female PI, Kira, barely making ends meet, learning from her great friend and mentor Ollie. While a meeting is taking place in the River Oaks neighborhood in Houston, the lawyer's house, Brock Logan, his assistant Neil, also Ollie is there waiting for Intel that will blow the case out of the water! Kira decides to meet Ollie there; she needs to be paid. Brock, handsome, rich, is happy to have her there, working on the murder case, with them. The doorbell rings, Ollie thrilled some food has arrived, opens the door, down he goes, blood everywhere, Kira, crawls behind a sofa, while the gunman takes a shot at her; she crawls back to Ollie, while the gunman heads for the kitchen. Brock fights with the gunman, gets shot, the gunman picks up computers, cell phones, goes out the back!
This is only the beginning! Then Brock hires Wolfe Security, to protect everyone working on the case, which includes Kira! Her first security detail is alpha male Jeremy! A decorated Veteran of four tours in Afghanistan; five years with Wolfe Security, handsome as sin, in the kind of shape most pro football players could only wish for!
This is not a psychological thriller; it is a fast-paced, police procedural, who done it! Only ten thousand times better! Sexy, without being over the top, heart-pounding scenes that keep you awake, and you cannot wait until the next book is out!
I highly recommend! Thank you Netgalley!

Laura Griffin has a talent for creating gripping plot lines and books that practically demand to be read in one sitting –and HER DEADLY SECRETS is no exception. Griffin reels in her readers with quite a hook. Although this book is part of a series, this is a standalone story with new main characters which means that you don’t have to have read the first book in this series to enjoy it. I didn’t read the first book and didn’t feel lost or missing any details while reading.

HER DEADLY SECRETS IS the second book in the Wolfe Security series and it explores the challenges of stopping a killer when the reasons why they are killing are unknown. P.I. Kira Vance finds herself personally involved with a murder case. Kira walks into a scenario where her mentor and boss is gunned down with the killer narrowly missing the opportunity to issue her the same fate. The law firm she’s been working with has decided that an added security detail is needed to keep not only her but the lawyers she’d been working with, safe and alive as well. Enter Wolfe Security!

HER DEADLY SECRETS is a real page-turner. I couldn’t put it down until I knew what had happened. Launching her own investigation, Kira hopes to uncover the answers that Ollie discovered. And she’ll take help wherever she can find it. Fans of psychological mysteries will enjoy this one. This is my first novel by Laura Griffin but I can tell you right now, it definitely won’t be the last. HER DEADLY SECRETS is so well written, that even though it jumps back and forth between the present and the past, it is still easy to follow. HER DEADLY SECRETS is a suspenseful tale that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the final pages.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions expressed are my own and were voluntarily given.

This is the first time I have read any books by Laura Griffin and this was a perfect start to reading more books for me!!

I loved Kira. She was this ball of fire and her determination and intuition was always right. When she got a itch to do something she went for it and stayed underneath the radar. In one instant things took a turn for the worse when she was just going to deliver information and finally get her payment. Kira was the champion and didn't struggle with what was happening but was saddened by the results of what had taken place.

Jeremy was this strong alpha, protection detail that took his job seriously and traveled the world often. His job was to protect and see things his clients could not see but things took a turn with Kira. She wasn't the person who would listen. She played by her own rules and she never backed down when someone told her no. Her gut never lead her wrong and she wasn't going to stop now.

Jeremy and Kira are lead down different paths to finding out different truths about each other and this lingering case. Will they be able to figure things out before another wrong happens?

I am so happy to read Her Deadly Secrets and I can't wait to dive into more books by Laura Griffin!!

M/F Action
Triggers: Murder

Kira is a PI who is being mentored by one of the best. However, she needs to pay rent and the best hasn't paid her in a while. Despite that, she knows that the information she has will be needed for an upcoming trial, so she piles in her car that is falling apart and heads to where the meeting is.

Ollie has been Kira's mentor since she was a court runner. With his guidance, Kira has learned the tricks of the trade and she's going to need them all. When she finds herself in the middle of a case, Kira's training kicks in and she can't help but want to help solve the mystery.

I liked that this story was told from the point of view of Kira and the female police officer. It was interesting to see their thought process and sometimes diverging processes. The mystery was a good one. I liked that you were wondering who could be trusted and where the case was going to turn next.

That being said, this wasn't really a romance. Sure, Jeremy and Kira had to spend time together because Jeremy was her protection, but they didn't really have romantic chemistry. They were more friends who had each other’s backs.

I did like that the mystery wasn't apparent at the beginning. Watching it unravel was fun. I can't wait for more books in this series but hope for more chemistry in the future.

Her Deadly Secrets by Laura Griffin is the second book in the romantic suspense Wolfe Security series. Each book of this series seems to be like most romance series and has changed the main characters in the book to form new romantic connections. The common thread among the series so far has been the men of Wolfe Security hired to protect someone involved with an ongoing legal case. Having read both books of the series I can easily say that each can be read separately and do not need to be in order to be understood.

In Her Deadly Secrets Kira Vance is a freelance private investigator who gets the majority of her work from those in Houston’s legal world. Kira was meant to be heading to a meeting with the man who had mentored her in their business but when she shows up bullets begin flying with her mentor killed and she the only one escaping a bullet.

Kira is offered a job after the incident to find out what her mentor had been involved in and carry on with the case. A part of her new contract would be gaining the protection of Wolfe Security while the police track down who was involved in the attack on that meeting.

Just like the first book of the series the action kicks in right away and keeps a reader on their toes. The point of view changes among the characters keeping readers in on every angle of the story. Kira of course is the main and more dominant of the voices in the story and then there is also her love interest on the security team and the law officers involved in the case. All of it blends wonderfully in this leaving readers with some thrilling suspense and steamy romance.

Wolfe Security #2 - I've got high hopes for this book. I have been in a PI funk since the end of the Kinsey Millhone Series with the death of Sue Grafton. The first chapter with PI Kira Vance as the heroine and the grisly murder she escapes set up what is an awesome mystery plot. The romance is of the slow burn variety. It heats to a boil near the end and it is hot. The mystery/suspense is convoluted and had me guessing where the plot was going for a good long time.

PI Kira Vance is showing up to a meeting she hasn't been invited to in order to confront Ollie, a PI she works with, in order to meet his big client and get paid. Just after she arrives Ollie is shot and killed, Brock Logan, top Houston defense attorney, is wounded and trial prep materials are stolen. Brock decides that Kira should take over for Ollie and also that security is needed for the whole team. The deeper Kira digs, the more questions she has and the more danger she puts herself in.

Jeremy Brock is the Wolfe Security operative assigned to keep Kiera safe and he is trying really hard to put his growing feelings for her aside so he can continue to be her primary security. He knows she has a job to do and respects that and her, but he also knows how quickly things can go sideways and this case just doesn't make any sense. Everyone has secrets and someone has a lot to lose.

There's a reason Laura Griffin's titles are favorites of mine...and, it's books like this one. I am a picky reader (yes, this is a surprise to no one) and when there's a new book by her in my hands, I know it's going to be a good read.

Kira is wonderful, and interesting, and the story is very engaging. I love that the main character in this is a strong, but also vulnerable, woman. She's likeable, and you want things to go well for her, and from the very first scene (which gives you a pretty good idea how the rest of the story is going to go) you are worried about her, and how she is going to get out of the mess she finds herself in.

I enjoy romantic suspense when it has characters in law enforcement, detectives, private investigators, all of it. And, when Laura Griffin writes them, they are interesting, the characters...well, you care about them from the beginning.

This one is twisty, and it kept me guessing. I was really positive I knew what was going on in this. I didn't. I was totally wrong. By the end, I had figured it out, and it made sense, but I was not right in the middle. And, this was a lot of fun.

As always with a Laura Griffin title, I enjoyed and recommend this title.

This is my first book written by Laura Griffin. I did enjoy it however a big predictable at times. Kira is a PI just looking to get paid by a man who contracts work out to her. While tracking him down she gets throw in the middle of his murder. The law firm he works for hire's Kira on to see what he was working on and assigns a bodyguard to her. While trying to track down who killed her mentor she falls in love with Jeremy, her bodyguard. It is action packed and it is what kept me reading it. So if you're looking for a great murder mystery with a hint of romance this is for you!

Her Deadly Secrets – Laura Griffin

I was fortunate to receive this book as an Advance Reader Copy from Netgalley, in exchange for an objective review.

Kira Vance is a private investigator, who works for fellow investigator Ollie Kovac. Having secured some info on a high-profile case that may help the defense, she’s enroute to Atty Brock Logan’s home, where a pre-trial meeting is ongoing, to drop off the file…information that may help clear Logan’s client, a respected physician accused of killing his wife. As she arrives and settles into the informal meeting, the doorbell rings – Ollie, expecting a food delivery – goes to answer, only to be shot point blank in the chest. In the ensuing mayhem, Kira dodges a bullet by diving behind furniture, and the killer is gone before anyone can react.

With Ollie dead, and Brock wounded, Kira is determined to find the person who killed her mentor. Assumed to be an attack related to the ongoing case, Logan’s firm hires bodyguards from Wolfe Security, and Logan hires Kira to replace Ollie. Kira’s bodyguard is Jeremy, a former military special forces soldier, who takes his job seriously. Too seriously, to Kira’s thinking…

As Kira investigates Ollie’s death, a visit to his office reveals little as they discover someone has been there before them. The office has been ransacked and little is salvageable. Kira does find a notebook with surveillance notes, but written in Ollie’s shorthand, they make little sense. As she and Jeremy attempt to identify the subject of Ollies interest, and his killer, neither can deny the growing attraction between them…

A solid storyline and two strong-willed leading characters, along with drama, sexual tension and hearty supporting characters make this book impossible to put down! Laura Griffin is an author whose work I will pick up immediately, without needing to read the back cover, as I know I’m always in for a great read!!!

TOP REC

Her Deadly Secrets was a fantastically written novel with an addictive storyline. Griffin's signature knack for spot-on suspense writing was at its best as she brought these characters and their stories to life. And as the mystery unfolded, there was the perfect blend of romance that added a delicious layer of life to the story and I devoured it in less than twelve hours.

From the first page, this story felt fresh and imaginative with intriguing mysteries and two very vivid characters. Everything about Kira felt relatable and raw; her characterization a spot-on interpretation. She held the perfect balance of ornery and level-headedness and god, did I love her fighting spirit in holding her own in her profession. The vulnerability she was allowed never once threatened her identity and she maintained being a strong character from start to end. And everything that she was paired so beautifully with who Jeremy was: this deeply caring, hardened war veteran that simply fell for her heart and strength. Their well drawn progression to something other than strangers was done with a skill that felt effortless.

Every beat of Her Deadly Secrets held substance, the mystery maintaining pace and tension. But what I can't honestly describe was how positively stunning the connection was between these two characters and how it crafted this ball of affection in my gut for them from the very beginning. These two will hold a special place in my heart and I cannot recommend this book enough for that alone—and so much more.

This is the 2nd book of the Wolfe Security series written by Laura Griffin. I love the way Laura Griffin writes strong women in her books. This book is written mainly from the P.O.V. of a female P.I. and also a female detective. They need to figure out how to stop a killer and how the killing is linked to a murder case that is about to be tried.

The female P.I. in this story is Kira Vance. Although she is very good at her job, she is struggling and works with her friend Ollie. Kira brings information regarding a case that Ollie is working on (to the home of the of the lawyer trying the case) where Ollie ends up being murdered and Kira is thrown into a whirlwind trying to figure out why Ollie was killed, who killed him, and how what happened pertains to the current case they were working on.

Charlotte Spears in the female detective in this story. I like her dedication to the investigation. I do admit, at times she doubted / mistrusted Kira and that did drive me a little crazy, however, I know that P.I.'s don't always share all of their information regarding a case with the police (at times they can't due to confidentiality). I feel that Laura Griffin did a great job writing about all of the police involved in this case and the steps that were taken to solve the murders. Also, as the story continued the characters did a much better job sharing evidence and working together to solve the case. It took time for them to build trust.

The lawyer that had hired Ollie, Brock Logan, is a prominent defense attorney. After Ollie is murdered he hires Kira to take over Ollie's case. The murder is days before the current case is to be tried and Kira needs to determine what Ollie discovered that cost him his life AND if the information will help the defendant in the current case. Brock Logan's company hires private security from Wolfe Security.

Jeremy Owens is a part of the Wolfe Security team and he is one of the team members assigned to protect Kira. You could instantly tell that the 2 of them were going to make this story lots of fun to read!! They way they interacted was spot on and I just loved 'watching' them fall in love throughout the story. They definitely didn't fall in love immediately, Kira certainly made Jeremy's job difficulty by not following along with the protocols that were put in place by the security team. I liked the respect that each of the characters gained for each other as the story continued and how they ended up working so well together by the end of the story.

Overall, I thought this book was amazing!! The story plot flowed smoothly combining mystery and romance in a realistic way. The pacing of the story was excellent too! I love Jeremy and Kira as a couple and I'm very glad that they got their H.E.A. I can't wait to read the next book in this series!! Once again this was a phenomenal story that kept me engaged and wanting to know what was going to happen next!

*Thank you to Simeon & Schuster and Netgalley for this eARC in exchange for my honest review.

This dangerous investigation is personal…

This is the second book in the Wolfe Security series that can be read as a stand-alone.

Contracted to an experienced private investigator, Oliver (Ollie) Kovak, who is also her mentor, Kira Vance delivers a report to him at their client’s home when everything goes horribly wrong and Ollie is killed in front of her. Prior to his death Ollie had unearthed relevant information for a lawyer’s case but hadn’t managed to share it in time. Kira takes over the PI work for their legal client, though devastated by the personal loss she’s determined to find what it was that got a man she respected, considered a friend, killed. She’ll have to retrace Ollie’s steps and stay ahead of those who want the information to remain buried. Is she up to the task? She wonders if she is but doubts won’t stop this woman.

A lawyer and his employees are assaulted in his home and Wolfe Security is hired to protect the legal defense team for a high profile case. Jeremy Owen is the lead security specialist, a former marine just returned from an overseas mission that suffered complications and he hasn’t had time to decompress, assigned to protect a female private investigator who doesn’t want their protection. She’s afraid his presence will get in the way of her investigation but the independent, sassy woman doesn’t have a choice in the matter, he’ll make the arrangement work even when she tries to elude his team.

There are multiple points of view in this story, that of Kira, Jeremy, and the female detective looking into Ollie’s murder for the Houston PD, the same investigation Kira is working though Kira is focusing on the connection to the lawyer’s case. The duality was interesting, seeing different sides of the investigation and how the two women came to an understanding in regards to sharing information each considered confidential from the other. It is these two strong women in professions usually male-dominated who ultimately break the case with the help of their assigned male partners.

Kira was an intriguing character, an intelligent, independent yet vulnerable young woman, doggedly determined, highly astute and a quick learner, she’s flying solo on a dangerous case sans her mentor. She’s not used to and doesn’t want protection or help but she accepts its necessity and uses it to her advantage. It helps that she finds that Jeremy is not just definitely good to look at but highly capable, their attraction is palpable but it’s the case that had to come first for them both.

Jeremy was the silent, sometimes grumpy, yet deadly type and I enjoyed the dialogue between the couple, how they handled the sexual tension that was always apparent, there was a proper time for everything. The storyline was an exciting, fast-paced, attention-grabbing mystery, the investigation detailed. This reader likes to see how the characters resolve the puzzles before them and the author provided much suspense. The ending was perfect for these protagonists, a beginning not a given.

An advanced reading copy was obtained from the publisher via NetGalley.

i really really enjoyed this well written nicely paced romantic suspense (even if i felt the book could have lost about 50 pages) from Ms Griffin...plus that cover!!! i will say that it was a touch sad for me (boy was it ever)

but i'm off point -it's also the second title in the Wolfe Security series(you could read this without having read "book one" and not feel cheated - at least i think so)

the most enjoyable point me for me was Kira. she's a strong heroine and likable all round just like our Jeremy. the secondary characters are also well written.

the romance was also believable but it seems to take a bit of a back seat to the actual suspense story line.

Take a Houston PI, the death to be solved of her mentor/boss, a murderer with Kira (the PI) in his sights, add Wolfe Security's Jeremy to the mix and you have a great suspense, romance, and mystery all tied up in one. Griffin's female characters are strong, professional and unstoppable in seeking resolutions. Jeremy, the Wolfe security agent, admires his charge, thinks a BIT romantically about her, but often stumped how to protect Kira as she seeks answers. Griffin is great at detailing procedures in an entertaining but informative way which is instructional and a great help in understanding the responsibilities of her characters. Having missed the first book in the Wolfe Security series, I have a new read to seek and those seeking a good novel to enjoy don't hesitate to pick Her Deadly Secrets up when it hits the book shelves.

Her Deadly Secrets
(Wolfe Security #2)
by Laura Griffin

Paperback, 368 pages
Expected publication: July 2nd 2019 by Gallery Books

Goodreads synopsis:
Private Investigator Kira Vance spends her days navigating the intricate labyrinth of Houston’s legal world, and she knows all of its shadowy players and dark secrets.

On a seemingly normal day, she’s delivering a report to her top client when suddenly everything goes sideways and the meeting ends in a bloodbath. Twenty-four hours later, the police have no suspects but one thing is clear: a killer has Kira in his sights.

Fiercely independent, Kira doesn’t expect—or want—help from anyone, least of all an unscrupulous lawyer and his elite security team. Instead, she launches her own investigation, hoping to uncover the answers that have eluded the police. But as Kira’s hunt for clues becomes more and more perilous, she realizes that she alone may hold the key to finding a vicious murderer. And she knows she must take help wherever she can find it if she wants to stay alive.

4.5 Stars

This is the second book in the Wolfe Security series. This is a sort of male-driven romantic suspense book. I am not sure the title really fits the story, though. The synopsis only mentions the female lead but the series is called Wolfe Security so you’d think they would take a moment to mention which Wolfe Security guy this book is featuring. Book 1 in this series is titled Desperate Girls.

The story starts off as a split lead. First we get the entrance scene of Kira Vance a private investigator who witnesses the death of her colleague, Ollie and then it is quickly followed by the entrance scene of Jeremy Owens. He is coming off another job and has not had adequate sleep or even debriefed before they pull him in as a bodyguard to Kira. Then the POV moves to a more overreaching one where you see what everyone is doing only focusing on Kira or Jeremy alone here and there.

Kira is not the most agreeable client for Wolfe Security. She wants to find out what happened to Ollie and she is willing to break laws and into Ollie’s home to get clues much to Jeremy’s dismay. They get caught by the police and somehow quickly let go. But Kira dives into other not so legal means to find information. Sometimes it is helpful to the investigation and sometimes it just lands her into more trouble. But she quickly gets under Jeremy’s skin making him think about doing things with Kira that would force him to give up his protection detail. Emotional things that might end up with both of them shedding clothes and doing inappropriate things.

I thought this was overall pretty good. I enjoyed all the suspenseful aspects. Kira proved to be quite hardheaded and she made an excellent female lead. Jeremy seemed the more strong and silent type but somehow he felt almost more present in the scenes than Kira. Quite an imposing character even when he wasn’t talking. I thought that said a lot about Griffin’s writing style. It would be difficult to make and character say nothing but still be quite imposing in the scene.

The sex scene wasn’t too over the top but I think the kiss in the car was much hotter in my opinion. Pair the intensity of the situation with their burbling chemistry and a spark between them was sure to burn to an engulfing emotional fire.

Overall just an excellent read. Highly recommended.

I received this as an ARC (Advanced Reader Copy) in return for an honest review. I thank NetGalley, the publisher and the author for allowing me to read this title.

This second installment of the Wolfe Security series explores the challenges of stopping a killer when the motives are unknown.

Kira Vance's life is far from perfect. She's struggling PI, who is good at her job, but not good enough to pay the bills. A tragic event involving the death of her friend and fellow PI, Oliver "Ollie" Kovak, gives her an opportunity to change the course of her life. So long as she isn't killed in the process.

With a prominent lawyer, Brock Logan, losing his key investigator and entering a critical trial just days away, he hires Kira to help his team. While she greatly accepts the opportunity, she has one focus, finding who killed Ollie. And as she begins to unravel the mystery, she discovers the hit on her friend may have ties to Logan's trial.

Joining Kira in her search for the killer is Jeremy Owens, who is hired along with his Wolfe Security team, to protect Logan and his key employees. Kira is a bit bull headed, making Jeremy's job a lot more difficult, but I think with time, he comes to appreciate her tenacity. There's also some chemistry that builds between them, and I felt how they handled it was honest and realistic.

I was impressed with Kira's investigative ability, she seemed to be one step ahead of the police detectives, Charlotte Spears and Ken Phan. With time, they come to understand that they are on the same side and do a better job of sharing information, which is a change from how things kicked off. There isn't much evidence to work with, given the number of robberies and deaths along the way, but Kira is resourceful. Once the killer(s) become known, it is just a matter of stopping them before more people get hurt - not an easy task as this book proves.

Overall, this was a well-plotted story, combining a mystery and romance in a logical way (not too rushed). I also enjoyed the paring of Kira and Jeremy, they felt like a good match, who could make the difference in their jobs, work for the long term. I'm looking forward to more in this series at each member of Wolfe Security finds their own HEA.
