Let me first state that while this is the 2nd book in the series I did not read the 1st prior to reading this. I didn't feel like I missed out on anything / there was zero confusion.
Kira is a PI who finds herself caught up in a murder trial, except it turns into a way bigger case then she expected. There's more murders to follow and she and the detectives try to find the common link of where it all started.
Kira's boss decides that it would be best to put security on everyone working on the case, cue Wolfe Security. Kira develops a bond with one agent in particular. Can they fight the line of personal and professional and find a happy medium? Can the security company keep everyone safe? Will they find the link with the murders?
I enjoyed this book. There were lots of surprises that kept me in suspense. It was well written and there was no cliffhanger at the end, which is always very nice. If you enjoy a good murder mystery that also contains a little romance this is one for you.

Driving down the road in her old Toyota Celica, Kira Vance realizes when the downpour started that there was no way she could make a good impression at her first interview with attorney, Brock Logan. The leak in her sunroof dripped down her white T-shirt making the spots transparent. At this point in her life there was no way to afford an upgrade, nor did she want to. She’d become attached to the old girl despite bad transmission and huge mileage. To top it off just as she turned into the large subdivision of River Oaks where Logan lived, the engine light came on. At the door her boss, Ollie Kovak greeted her at the door and walked with her into the kitchen. He explained that Brock decided they’d have a dinner meeting. He had placed a take-out order and was awaiting its arrival. In the interim he said he had important info on the pre-trial investigation. He was in the process of uploading the file on his phone when the doorbell rang. He answered the door while Kira retrieved documents from her bag. An explosion of noise flew out from the front door, Kira dropped behind the couch, Logan came into the kitchen from his office while the perp ran through the house shooting as he raced through the house to the garage exit. Kira took a hit from flying glass, Brock Logan was shot in the kitchen. By the time the assassin had passed through the house Kira was kneeling over Ollie trying to revive him from multiple shots. Not long after she sat on the patio thinking through what just happened.
Because of the multiple threats to the Logan & Locke defendant team, he hired a contract security firm to protect the legal staff and private investigators. These guys were the big guns from Wolfe Security, a top notch, very expensive outfit. In essence, they took over Kira’s life despite her need to find the info Ollie was trying to give her.
This gripping mystery keeps us reading to find out who, what and why. I read this in the course of a day/night. It was a tough one to put down, a great read as one would say. Not a disappointment until the conclusion when it just didn’t have the finish I expected. Now don’t get me wrong, it’s well worth reading. This is the first novel I have read by Laura Griffin. PI thrillers are always good. I am certain to continue with Wolfe Security if it becomes a series.
Her Deadly Secrets, written by Laura Griffin is published by Simon & Schuster and will be available on July 9, 2019.
This is the second book in the Wolfe Security series but can be read as a stand-alone as the use of familiar characters are the only familiarity between the two books. While the plot line itself did not hold much distinction to others of the genre, Griffin does keep her audience captive with her strategic writing style and creative characters. The main character and heroine, Kiera, though thoroughly evolved could have benefited from a deeper delve into her past. It felt as though the reader was brought just to the cusp of understanding who she was but left not knowing the entire story. As if a bit of her was missing. Nonetheless, the slow-burn chemistry between Kiera and Jeremy is beautifully frustrating, proving Laura Griffin knows how to keep the reader engaged and flipping the pages. The mystery of whodunnit was a constant tease and the foreshadowing keeps the reader guessing until the very end. Those going in expecting a fast-paced suspense will be let down, this is a steady-paced romantic mystery. 4 stars.

Private Investigator Kira Vance gets a front row seat to her mentor/associate being gunned down and killed. Her life is then upended as the lawyer her associate and herself were helping with a current high profile case hires Wolfe Security to protect his firm along with Kira. She isn't to happy to have a bodyguard following her around but soon realizes that the killer didn't get what they wanted the first time and now have set their sites on her.
This series checks all the boxes for Romantic Suspense but I miss the in depth details of the Tracers series. The women in this series are also the most tenacious and at times overbearing females which didn't work for me in the first book but Kira was much more tolerable. I do love that these take place in familiar locations in Texas that I know.
This story started out with a bang and just kept going. The characters were likable and and I loved our smart, female Private Investigator heroine. I found it interesting that I didn't immediately know our heroines love interest, since there are several new alpha male characters who were introduced. Usually the connection between love interests is instant and obvious, so this was something new.
The plot was also complex. There were many unanswered questions along the way, and the mystery of who was actually the intended target added intrigue.
It was a fun surprise when the main character came in contact with Fiona Glass, from the Glass Sisters series--both books in that series were excellent. You really can't go wrong with this author.
As for the ending, I found it satisfying and thought it worked to have everything wrapped up and finalized--even if done somewhat abruptly.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book!
This is the first book I've read by this author, and I enjoyed it. It has a lot of action and suspense, plus a nice undertone of romance between the two lead characters, Kira and Jeremy. Being from Houston, I really enjoyed the connection I felt to the setting. I hope this is the first in a series about the Wolff Security group; if so, I will definitely read the others. If you like romantic suspense, give this one a try.
Thank you to NetGalley and Gallery Books for providing an ARC for review.
I think I've just read too many crime dramas lately and this one was good but just didn't hold my attention like others have. Kira is a PI working on a case when her boss is gunned down suddenly and she must unravel the case on her own. Fortunately the security company hired to protect her features handsome and virile Jeremy to whom she is immediately attracted. Lots of possible leads but it took a long time to make any progress (or at least it seemed to me) and the romance took up more of my time than the actual plot-line surrounding the murder. I know there are lots of Laura Griffin fans out there and I think I will have better luck with her first series that's gotten really good reviews!
Full review to be published online in mid July.
HER DEADLY SECRETS is the second book in Laura Griffin's new 'Wolfe Security' series. I have to admit up front that I gave up on the first book in this series and did not finish it. I simply never got into the storyline. Being a huge fan of Griffin's, I of course gave her another shot. I ran into some of the same problems, however. The romance was awkward and the suspense clunky and disjointed. I didn't find any if the magic I've found in other books by this author. In fact, I find it difficult to believe that this was even written by the same author who gave us the wonderful 'Tracers' series. Color me disappointed.
‘Her Deadly Secrets’ is the murder mystery aficionado’s sort of read—and a little different in than the usual Laura Griffin Tracers style—, as PI Kira Vance finds herself somewhat over her head investigating an associate’s murder and the hot-shot lawyer that she suddenly reports to.
But the security team that he’s called on her brings on a tagalong bodyguard that she resists, until it seems that what she’s looking at is a vicious killer who’s got her in his sights.
It’s a template that has been told many times before—variations on a theme in a way, that Kira Vance treads where many others have trodden before. As a police-procedural-type series with an intense focus on the unsolved crime, this works perfectly fine.
But the book’s billing as romantic suspense however, doesn’t, especially not when the romance has been written in awkwardly, with 2 people thrown together by force and then suddenly developing a romance when there’s a distinct lack of romantic chemistry between them.
For someone who expected a bit more of the latter after going through Griffin’s Tracers books, I was actually taken aback with surprise when the first kiss happened, left incredulous with anything that hinted of romance between them past the initial, weak attraction. In short, Kira/Jeremy as a pairing were sidelined here so much that I hesitated to even call this a connection (as hurriedly as it was developed) in favour of tying all the loose ends of the plot up.
It isn’t to say that the book isn’t written with Griffin’s usual aplomb: meticulously planned and executed with the kind of writing that pulls you in.
But the storytelling felt somewhat unbalanced—exciting at the start, only to head, rather frustratingly, into a lacklustre and sagging middle—along with a romance that hardly took off. In short, ‘Her Deadly Secrets’ is probably a book suited to those who prefer the journey of uncovering the whodunnit mystery than following the emotional development of the protagonists.
I am fan of Ms Griffin's previous books and was looking forward this one. I'm happy to say that it had the interesting plot, excellent pacing and satisfying romantic elements that I expect. I devoured it in a day and am hoping for more additions to the Wolfe Security series.
Kira finds herself in the middle of a murder when she goes and confronts her boss and the house of their biggest client. Her mentor and boss is killed in front of her and she knows she's not going to stop until they get the killer or killers. Hired to protect is her is Jeremy and when she meets him she has no idea what lies ahead. She , they have a instant chemistry and you can feel it in the words. thank you NetGalley for allowing me to read this.
