This book captivated me from the first page!!
Thank you to NetGalley for my copy of this book.
What a fabulously delicious book. This book has a fantastic story line, excellent characters and is just unputdownable. I would highly recommend this book to anyone and I enjoyed it immensely.
I received an ARC of this novel from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
Intriguing novel about a family and their relationship with a nanny who worked for them in subsequent generations. There is a twist at the climax that is both shocking and satisfying.
This is an incredibly readable thriller. It keeps the reader guessing and I read it in one day, because I had to know the ending. It was hard to figure out who was lying and there were many twists and turns in this eerie tale.
This is my third novel by Gilly Macmillan (one of which was just okay and one which I thought was phenomenal) and unfortunately, it completely missed the mark for me. This was a buddy read for me with Dennis and the theories I threw out before we even reached page 75 were ALL accurate. And I’m not a very good sleuth normally so that should tell you something.
The other issue for me was that this book was 400 pages. This is a story that absolutely could have been told in 300 or less (or apparently 75 based on what I wrote above) so the longer it dragged out, the more frustrated I felt. Given my success with I Know You Know, I am definitely not ruling out Macmillan in the future by any means, but this one particular one was just not for me. For someone who has read less thrillers, you may be more surprised by this one than I was.
Thank you to William Morrow for an advanced copy. All opinions are my own.
So creepy... in such a good way! As a reader, you know something is way off about the nanny... but it seems all so normal and disfunctional at the same time. I never saw the fraud coming despite the clues. Keep me on the edge of my seat. Can't wait to share.
The nanny by golly Macmillan, is a predictable book. It did not hold my attention at all. This would not be a book I could recommend
Plot dragged a little, and it took me a few days to finish this. I’m also not sure I understand the very last page. Perhaps I’m looking for meaning where there is none but I feel like I’m missing something.
Not my favorite Gilly Macmillan book, but decent overall. I had a hard time getting into it, but felt like it picked up a bit a few chapters in. A definite slow burn with flawed characters whom you root for anyway.
I only recently discovered Gill Macmillan and was delighted to read her latest. This suspenseful novel follows a family in England and the mysterious disappearance of the protagonist's nanny when she was a child. Lots of twists and turns in a quick, dark read.
You know you're reading a fantastic thriller when you are on the edge of your seat, heart pounding with frustration as you wait to see if the protagonist will find the answer in time to save themselves. This novel was no exception to that rule, and I found myself flying through the pages, desperate to know whose body was in the lake, and who Hannah really was. Gilly Macmillan consistently delivers, and I can't wait for her next novel.
I FLEW through this book. It was dark, creepy, and had me rapt from the beginning. So many characters to dislike until the picture becomes complete near the end. I thoroughly enjoyed the story and that it was told from several characters point of view. Gilly has the mystery/thriller genre down pat. Looking forward to her next one!
Have you ever read a book where the character is so deliciously despicable you hurry to the ending to make sure they get what they deserve? That is how I read The Nanny in one night. I won’t say which character so as not to give anything away, because honestly it could have been any of them.
Gilly Macmillan does an excellent job of making the reader feel invested in the story so much, you want to bring justice yourself!
Wow! I could not put this down and read this book in a day. I've read all of Gilly Macmillan's other books and think this one is the best yet! I loved how the story was told in the different years and by different characters. Thank you to the publisher for the advanced copy. I will be recommending to everyone I know!
