The House at Hope Corner

Her shop in the small English town was surviving but so full of beauty. Flora loved it here but she knew it was only a matter of time before she would need to sell and regroup. Pondering it all, she was brought back to the present by the door chime. In walked Ned, looking at all of the gorgeous flowers and decorations; then his eyes took in Flora. What an amazing woman. She reflected all of the beauty of the surroundings in her face. Flora looked at Ned and everything clicked. First talking, then drinks in Ned’s tent, then talk of marriage. It was a whirlwind. The next either one knew they were heading back to Ned’s farm, The House at Hope Corner.
Moving into his childhood home was strange yet Flora felt it could workout no matter how odd she felt. His parents Hannah and Fraser were welcoming but also felt uncomfortable by the feeling that their son would move this young woman into their home. Their house is a farm with cattle and gardens. It would mean adapting to their lifestyle overnight.
Day by day the awkward situation went on. Ned’s ex-girlfriend, Caroline, was unwanted visitor on many occasions. It took me awhile to figure out how her presence worked into the storyline. I did however keep reading, discovering more facts from the family’s history. Flora continued to work on her artwork, befriending next door neighbor, Grace. There was a store on her property that sold so many wonderful things.
The House at Hope Corner is an unusual little story set in the English countryside. I began to find it more interesting as it flowed on. Flora is an fascinating, colorful character. Aside from Grace, the rest of the characters seemed bland. It is a pleasant tale worth picking up. Bookouture will publish The House at Hope Corner by Emma Davies on May 10, 2019.

When Flora arrives at Hope Corner, I was slightly dubious that she may not realise what she is letting herself in for. Not only is she moving in with a man she hasn’t long met, but his parents also.

There are certainly some teething problems as everyone settles in together. Ned and his parents are hard working, salt of the earth people. I really took to them and life at the farm. What I love about this authors novels is that they are escapism at it’s finest. The settings are idyllic and she really brings it to life. I don’t want to say to much but the scene at the end literally took my breath away with the vision that erupted in my head.

I loved Flora’s zest for life and she really is an inspirational character that I am sure more than a few of us will be envious of. I think I was living my hopes and dreams through Flora and willing for everything to go right for her.

The House At Hope Corner really is an uplifting read that will have you feel like you can tackle anything. It gives you hope and makes you realise what is important in life. Some parts were a tad emotional but otherwise this was such a great read that will uplift and inspire. Absolutely loved it!

Flora meets Ned, sells her floral shop and moves to his parent's dairy farm to get married. Cue in overbearing mother, although she means well, dad who works too hard, and has a heart attack, and the nosy interfering old girlfriend neighbor who is always around and you get the idea of the story. I did enjoy this one, and highly recommend it, although at times was skimmable, as some details were more than needed. Otherwise, a fun read, and as the title implies it is a feel-good story.
