This books starts out very slow. Through the middle of the book the plot picks up and is much more engaging to the reader. However, the conclusion really stretches and leaves some major holes. At times I enjoyed the book and characters. Overall I had a hard time followings some of the characters and the authors decision on the storyline.

Really enjoyed this sort of dark and creepy book, that takes place in Alaska in 1941. The story drew me in right from the start and even though I didn’t really like any of the characters, I followed along to find out what happened to the twin sister who disappeared 20 years before. Loved the ending and am hoping for a sequel?

Elisabeth has not seen her twin sister since she disappeared 20 years ago, but believes in her heart of hearts that she is still alive.. Living in Alaska trying to be a good wife and mother, she meets a pilot who says he can tell her where her sister is if she does three things for him. Putting her own life in danger to rescue her sister seems to be the next step, one she is more than willing to take to get her sister back., but is her sister even still alive?

Haunting, disturbing and a little bit creepy! It has all the elements of a gripping murder mystery!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I've never been to Alaska, but the isolation and ruggedness has always intrigued me. This is a great mystery set in that rugged terrain. Great characters and a great story. I enjoyed this book

This sounded like such a good premise but I found it a chore to read--it was repetitive and boring and the plot of the villain eeking out info in an effort to keep conversations going with the main character seemed contrived. Worst though was the failure of the character to engage me. They are all one dimensional characters, and I just could not be pulled into the book or bring myself to care about Elizabeth, the mystery of her sister's disappearance, and her desperation to solve it. Also, the annoying use of "you" to mean "I" on the flashback chapters was very distracting.

I liked this novel very much. It had the right amount of intrigue mixed with creepy. It pulled no easy punches that so many suspense books rely on. I was mildly disappointed in the ending, which is why I am starring it 4 instead of 5. All in all a super solid book. I would recommend it to most people.

I loved this book! I found the plot interesting filled with twists I didn't expect and I was invested in Elizabeth's story, both past and present. There were times I wanted to cover my eyes at the choices characters were making but was too hooked not to see things play out. I loved the remote isolation of the Alaskan setting with the "present" 1941 time frame.

I received an ARC of this novel from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

This novel is a psychological thriller about an obsession, a missing person, and a fatal attraction. It was a good read with disturbing content.

I felt this one pushed the boundaries of plausibility in many ways. In addition, something was lacking with the main character - she was fairly unlikable and nothing really caused me to root for her, which is pretty important in this type of story (actually none of the rest of the characters were that likable either). The mystery of what really happened to the sister was enough to keep me engaged to the end, but the way the novel ends is a complete letdown.

This book was not for me, I could not buy into the premise of Else willingly going along with things suggested by a self confessed murderer. One of the small things that kept me from buying into the story was the fact that Else would swear occasionally, social mores were very different in the 1940's and I don't believe women would swear as casually as in contemporary times. I also did not care for the non-ending, I like everything to be finished.

This is billed as a "Silence of the Lambs" type story. It comes pretty close! I will definitely be purchasing this novel for my Library's collection.

This book was a real page-turner. The story and plot was well developed, and Elizabeth, the main character, was a very well crafted protagonist. I will say though, that there were times, when I thought her actions were really stupid and illogical, but I understood why she did what she did. I also enjoyed the historical backdrop but it doesn't make me want to visit Alaska!

Thank you to Berkley Publishing Group and Netgalley for this advanced reading copy. I must say I was disappointed. The writing really was not engaging though the story kept me going. Elisabeth’s twin sister disappeared at a young age. A mysterious stranger arrives and seems to know something about it. After he is imprisoned for murder he keeps Elisabeth is his life by dribbling out little hints while asking for favors. In flashes from the past, we learn more about the disappearance than the stranger seems willing to reveal. I kept reading to discover the secret and was disappointed in the ending.

Great book! It continually built up in suspense as you read along and finished with a gripping end. I was hooked from the first page. It is well written and very descriptive allowing you to really visualize the scene. Since this takes place in Alaska, setting the scene made telling the story that much more rich. This is a story of love for family and courage but it also a story of grave mistakes and childhood guilt.

After her twin sister goes missing when they were 11 years old, Elisabeth learns that she may be still alive. She takes scary risks to find out more information. Faced with life and death situations, she perseveres with courage, although some of her decisions were quite shocking. Along the way she is faced with marital problems, teenage angst from her daughter, and neighborly drama that makes her feel like an outcast. If you like suspense, this is the read for you!

I absolutely loved this book. Gripping and fast-paced, I really struggled to put it down! I felt that I could relate to the characters and wanted them to succeed as much as I loved the plot. She left room for a sequel and I would gladly pick that up.

The isolation is palpable in this Alaskan thriller. Chilling and fast paced, read it in one night. A must read for book clubs and a must order for the library collection!

I finished this story last night and I'm still trying to sort my exact feelings on it. Intriguing? Yes. Disturbing? Definitely! I love to read about twins and their curiously close physical & spiritual bonds to each other, the latter which still seem to remain even when they are separated. Very gripping mystery about a woman in search of her twin sister who went missing 20 years prior and the lengths she'll go to find her. I have a feeling this one is going to haunt me for a while!

This is a thank you for letting me review this book, It had very good descriptive exciting plots for a really good book. I just couldn't see it really happening in someone's life. Who would trust someone that much to do as she did. I would think it would take a mental case to go thru with what she did. Maybe I am wrong but it's not something I would of done. Ok, you will have to read it yourself and see how you feel. Worth the read! It's a book you have to finish so it makes sense to you. Enjoy!
