I sadly had to DNF this book. But I want to explain why... This book to me, started off really slow. I know that they needed to add the "threat" aspect in to build the whole storyline but though the antagonist was menacing.. he felt more like a mean friend then a true villain. I found myself having a hard time picking it back up, skimming pages, and pushing myself through rather then enjoying the journey to the parts that I liked. It did start to pick up when the romance bloomed. But, even after the main characters meet; I felt as though even the descriptions were forced. It just wasn't something I could get invested with, or connect to.
Aha who doesnot like mystry and romance mixed togather and add a dash of a handsome hero and a peachy heroine and you would get his memorable book! I have to thank netgalley for granting me this book. It was a enjoyable read. I love the plot and the characters. The dialogues and the wroting was good. Its not a 5 star read for me but thats just my opinion. I would certainly recommend everyone to try it atleast once.
I so wanted to love Southern Harm, because there is quite a bit of humor mixed in with the romance, but I just couldn’t get myself there. The story follows Oscar, a guy from a wealthy and influential family who has gambled away his money at the racetrack. He owes a gangster thousands of dollars, and is tasked with befriending a politician in order to wipe the slate clean. Oscar finds himself teamed up with the politician’s daughter in a golf tournament and they begin dating.
Oscar can’t seem to catch a break, so plenty of humor ensues. Unfortunately, I never connected with the character and couldn’t really feel bad for him. He’s the reason he’s found himself in this predicament, and he’s not very likeable. Stacey is not that likeable either, and certainly not her father. So all in all, I had trouble rooting for the couple to get together. Thank you, NetGalley, for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review. There were parts of the book that I enjoyed, but the characters didn’t win me over.
