A LOVE LIKE YOURS is going to rip apart your emotions and hand them back to you, a bit bruised, a bit wiser but healed – eventually.

Sam and Lucy have had rough lives and one event changed everything for them. Now years later, they might have a second chance except that Lucy is engaged and making the choice of her heart isn’t going to be an easy one for Lucy.

There might be some annoyance triggers for some readers, for others they might be more. In many ways, there is a love triangle between Sam, Lucy, and Drew that is understandable for a while but for those who consider a kiss as cheating then there’s that. Also, there is a cliffhanger-ish ending, and that is a real trigger for me. Some would consider the ending the lead into the next story, and it is, but the cliffhanger feel was very strong for me. It didn’t take away from my enjoyment of Lucy and Sam eventually finding each other again considering this is a duet styled story, but I always think a series can be done (even if it’s short) by ending one story and then picking up on the next. I’m not a writer, I don’t pretend to be – but as a reader, I know what I’m comfortable with and cliffhangers are not comfortable at all.

We will go between Sam’s and Lucy’s POV, and a bit of moving between history to their present as well. There is a lot that I enjoyed about A LOVE LIKE YOURS and some things that I got over myself about because the connection between Lucy and Sam was so strong and so very real. A STORY LIKE OURS comes out in June so there isn’t a long wait to continue this duet. Overall, I enjoyed this debut story by Robin Huber and I’ll continue the journey.

*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*

4 1/2 stars!

Lucy and Sam met in the foster care system. They grew up in a very rough area and Sam had always worried that she would be victimized because he thought she was too trusting. He always protected her even if it meant getting into fights to do so. Initially, they were friends but it grew to love and they were each other's firsts. Sam refers to her as his "Day One."

A situation occurs and Lucy and Sam are separated. Lucy doesn't believe it when Sam tells her his side of the story and they are apart for years. She goes to college and has opened an art gallery with the help of her fiancée (which is not Sam) and he has gone on to be an extremely successful professional boxer as he is the currently title holder for his division.

They reconnect but will Lucy let go of her safe and secure life with Drew for Sam and his life of fame and chaos? This was such a good book and I absolutely enjoyed every bit of Lucy and Sam's journey!

(Note that this is part one of a duet and it ends in a bit of a cliffy but the second book is only a few weeks away from releasing.)

This debut features an angsty second-chance-at-love romance between its 20something protagonists. Both raised in foster homes in a rough Atlanta neighborhood, Sam and Lucy once meant everything to each other, until Sam confessed to a crime he didn’t commit. Lucy couldn’t get past his confession. But neither has ever gotten over their once-in-a-lifetime love in spite of a decade of other lives and commitments. Sam comes back into Lucy’s life just as she’s finally ready to marry a man who will give her the normal life she’s always craved while funding the career she’s always dreamed of.

Boxing champ Sam has his work cut out for him, fighting Lucy’s need for “normalcy” and her love for the family she’s found. But he’s fought hard fights before and this is one he has to win. That Lucy is already halfway there with him makes it both easier and harder, as she’ll have to break a whole lot of hearts to make her own whole.

VERDICT: Recommended for lovers of new adult romance who like to see their couples struggle to grow up and grab their HEA. Readers who like their protagonists to overcome difficult circumstances in both life and love will need tissues watching Sam and Lucy fight their way back to each other.

This was a lovely love story that read like a contemporary romance. I found the dialogue to be a bit cringy at times, but other than that I cannot complain. The plot was fastpaced, the characters were compelling and the writing was good. I enjoyed the time jumps in between chapters that gave us an insight at the protagonists' past lives, I think it made their characters more tridimensional. The scenes are passionate and thrilling without being too cheesy, the story is strong without being overly dramatic, and the characters have man relatable aspects. If you love a cozy romance story, this is definitely the book for you!

A Love Like Yours is the emotional roller coaster debut by Robin Huber. Sam and Lucy's story hooked me right in and I couldn't wait to see if these two would be able to find their way back to each other after a decade apart. Readers should note that this is the first book in the duet and that this book does end with a cliffhanger. Don't worry though, the second book releases in just under a month!

Second chance romances always hit me in all the feels and I especially love them when our characters are childhood sweethearts. The book is told from both Sam and Lucy's POV (the majority of chapters are Lucy's) and they shift periodically from the past to the present, slowly revealing the history of our characters. I loved seeing how these two met, connected, and became more. There's always something so sweet about young, first love. Seeing these two overcome their circumstances and become the people they always hoped to be was so heartwarming. I loved them as a couple, but individually it took time for me to warm up to them, especially Lucy. The love triangle components and Lucy's treatment of Drew really made me lose respect for her. I understand her conflict, but it felt like it just dragged on for too long in the story. The final confrontation was explosive, but ultimately somewhat anticlimactic for the amount of build up that had taken place. I was also confused by the explanation behind Sam and Lucy's separation. Given their histories I understand how traumatic the event would be for Lucy, but I just found it hard to believe that she would completely turn her back without letting Sam explain or question what happened.

Sebastian was the one character in the book that I loved from start to finish. He was supportive, loving, and Lucy really wouldn't survive without him. He added a lot of comic relief to the story as well and I loved his friendship with Lucy. One character I didn't particularly care for however, was Molly. I understand the role she played in filling a void in Sam's life, but I didn't feel like she needed to reappear as many times as she did. I think that I just wanted the story to focus more on Sam and Lucy reconnecting and not on misunderstandings, omissions, and drama.

Overall, this was an entertaining and emotional story and the ending will have you holding your breath until you get book 2, A Story Like Ours!

Nikki’s Review:

Sigh. I love a second chance romance novel! I love when the characters journeys come full circle, and they find their way back to each other. A Love Like Yours is one of those stories.

Sam and Lucy both grew up in the foster care system. They became best friends when they were placed in the same home. Over the years, that friendship grew into a romantic love.

You get a real sense that this is true love for Sam and Lucy even at the tender age of 17. They’ve been through the wringer as kids, and they don’t take love for granted. After a series of events rips them apart, they have to learn to live without each other.

Fast forward 10 years and they’ve reunited. The emotion was full on in your face from the moment they see one another. It was obvious that the love they had as teenagers never went away. Man, I was so hopeful for these two from the get go! I wasn’t sure how it was going to work out though. Lucy is engaged to another man, Drew. It would have been so much easier for me to be ok with her breaking up with Drew if he was a douchebag, but he wasn’t. I really liked him. And he really loved Lucy. I knew this was going to get me in the feels, and I was right.

I started to grow a little tired of Lucy’s back and forth over what she was going to do. I can’t imagine how much her heart was hurting, but I just wanted her to be more steadfast in her decision-making. In real life I imagine that Lucy’s behaviour was pretty accurate though.

Lucy makes her decision, and there’s definitely a trail of shattered heart pieces left behind. I was so happy, but kinda sad at the same time. Crazy, eh? My feelings were all over the place with this book.

The story and characters were all really well developed and the writing was spectacular. There’s a cliffhanger at the end, and the story continues in A Story Like Ours. I’m honestly not sure how that one is going to go. I feel like the story could have wrapped up in book 1, but maybe I’ll be surprised and discover that there’s so much more to these characters. Book 2 comes out on June 18th, so stay tuned for my next review!

lucy and sam grew up in the worst sort of circumstances. but they had each other, and they believed that together they'd get out, that life would get better. than things could be different. but when sam is arrested for drug possession, lucy sees the promises they made to each other as lies and his betrayal cuts deep. so she leaves him and everything else behind. eventually finding a way forward.

ten years have gone by when a love like yours opens, and sam is now a successful boxer, having won olympic gold after his stint in prison. lucy has followed his career, without ever admitting to anyone her connection to sam. not even to her fiancé. but when she's given the chance to see sam fight in person, she can't stop herself from going. even though she's terrified about facing him again, there's so much unfinished between them. he's the man she can't stop thinking about, even though she has a man at home who has done so much for her, and for her career.

what's unfinished for lucy is a gaping wound in sam. she was the girl he loved beyond reason who lost her faith in him at the worst moment in his life. because one thing this book deals with is the fact that the criminal justice system is stacked against those who are poor and without means to defend themselves. even though sam was innocent, he pled guilty on the advice of his public defender and spent three years in prison. that is so horrifying. and because the adults around him fail him, he loses the one person in his life who means everything.

sam cole is a freaking tragedy. and yet his heart still beats for lucy. who let's be honest here, doesn't do so much to deserve all that devotion. she's the girl he loves, but i wish we could see why she inspires that devotion. because all these people love her and she is mostly super selfish and kind of a jerk. i still enjoyed reading this story a lot, and i'm looking forward to reading the conclusion of the duet (reader alert: this ends on a cliffhanger and a story like ours will publish in june).

**a love like yours will publish on may 21, 2019. i received an advance reader copy courtesy of netgalley/grand central publishing (forever) in exchange for my honest review.

Robin Huber is a new-to-me author, and I’ll definitely be reading more from her. A Love Like Yours is an emotional, captivating second-chance romance and the first book in the Love Story duet. Sam and Lucy share a heartbreaking, beautiful history, and although they parted ways under painful circumstances, their hearts still ache for one another. Lucy is on the cusp of marrying another man, but when she seems Sam again, it’s obvious they’re love story isn’t finished. This moving, unforgettable journey will leave you begging for more as you wait for the second book, A Story Like Ours, which, thankfully, releases soon on June 18. I absolutely cannot wait for more of Sam and Lucy.

A Love Like Yours by Robin Huber in the first book in the Love Story Duet and was an emotional and angst-filled second chance romance with all kinds of feels. Our heroes, Sam and Lucy met when they were young and were deeply in love but are torn apart. Now years later, they come face-to-face, but Lucy wears another man’s ring. Even so, they are unable to deny their connection and chemistry.

Sam is determined to know what happened all those years ago and to fight for the woman he wants and loves. Lucy is torn between the man she shares a life with and the man who once owned her. One is safe and the other means risking everything. We get their story through the past and present and see what connects them. A Love Like Yours by Robin Huber was my first read by this author, but not my last. This story was touching, steamy and angsty and kept me captivated and cannot wait to see how it all ends.

Loved this book! Normally I avoid cliffhangers but I'm glad I gave this two book story a chance. Luckily there isn't a long time to wait until the second part is released. This is a debut novel for this author and she did an incredible job. I'm looking forward to many more stories from hers.

This story is an amazing second chance romance that will grab you by the heart right from the beginning. Both Lucy and Sam come from a tough background but they always had each other. Until they didn't. Now years later they are reunited. While they are both very different people the attraction between them can not be denied and it is definitely worth fighting for.

This book is incredibly well done and you will feel like you've known Sam and Lucy all their lives. Then there is that ending!! It will leave you gasping and demanding the rest of the story right now! I highly recommend this one,

*DISCLAIMER* THIS BOOK CONTAINS CHEATING
In A Love Like Ours, we have 2 kids who met while in the foster system. They fell in love, and took care of each other until an incident lands Sam in jail. Lucy feels like the only way to reach her dreams is to pick up the pieces and move on with her life since Sam was serving 3 years in prison.
Fast forward to present day. Sam did everything he wanted to do, and came back for Lucy. Lucy is engaged to Drew, and feels just as lonely as Sam has all these years.
The inner turmoil that Lucy was feeling felt very realistic, and definitely made her more relatable.
Sam's determination to make something of himself was something to be admired, and again, felt realistic, as he chose boxing as his way out.
I think Huber did an excellent job flushing out her characters and making you care about them. (Sebastian, Lucy's assistant is an amazing character, and someone I would want as my BFF.) I will also give Huber credit for making sure that Lucy clearly ended things with Drew before her and Sam slept together. There was kissing though, and that bothered me a little bit.
All in all, I am invested in these characters, and will be reading the conclusion to this duology.

First, let me say that there is a cliff hanger at the end of this book. The good news for me is that I have already begun to read the next book. On with the review. The two main characters of the story meet in the foster care system at a home. You are taken back through the story of how they meet and the bound that they formed. When they were in high school he a senior and she a junior life threw them both another curveball. He was arrested and then later ended up doing three years in prison. The reason behind all of this is explained and as the years pass on by she never went to see him or answer any letters. Now ten years have passed. He has become a champion boxer and she is getting ready to open a gallery with her art. She is also engaged to someone else. A man she never told where she came from or why she follows Sam’s career as a boxer so much. With an opportunity to go to the fight with two friends which is in New York, they live in Atlanta. She goes. What does not expect is how close they are to the ring. When later in the fight it looks like Sam is going to lose he hears the voice from his past. Lucy yelling to get up. He does and wins. Now on a quest to find her, he sees she actually was there from the video. Days later he ends up standing to look at her in her studio telling her things to need to be explained so he can move on. When he does she breaks down, for now, she feels like she let him down when he needed her. The rest of this book is about the two of them, her relationship with her fiancé and her desire to be with Sam but also to have this gallery. She has choices to make and not all of them will be easy. The scenes are intense the boxing matches are good. All of the characters are good in this book. This is an excellent story that surprised me but I could not put in down until I finished. Very much worth the read!

Not my usual type of read. But I think it will definitely have a good following and people will enjoy the story and characters.

Lucy is 11 years old when she meets Sam Cole, who is 12. They are both in fostering, due to the choices their parents made concerning drugs. Sam protects Lucy in the years to come and young love blossoms. However, due to circumstances they are separated. We are told the story through flashbacks of different moments in their life.
At the beginning of the story Lucy works as an artist and is engaged to be married and Sam is a succesful boxer. When they meet again it is the beginning of a confusing time for Lucy. Her feelings for Sam are inevitably going to hurt fiancé Drew.

Overall I enjoyed the story. It is written very well. It does tend to be a little on the dramatic side, that could be toned down a bit sometimes. But, the emotions are real and I loved the background story and how much Lucy and Sam mean to each other.

It ends on a cliffhanger, so I am happy to have the next book available.

A Love Like Ours is the story of Sam and Lucy. It is a second chance romance and covers their relationship when they were young and when they meet again as adults. This story is full of passion and intensity! Robin Huber had me hooked from beginning to end! Weaving from Sam and Lucy's past and their present. I enjoyed the flashbacks to earlier years because it shed light as to the people they are today.

I thoroughly enjoyed this second chance romance! Robin Huber knows how to write love and passion and angst. I can"t wait for the second part!

THIS BOOK!! What if you had a love that lit your soul on fire and you lost it. You’re living a normal, and on all-accounts pretty great life but that love returns...what would you do? Talk about a book packed full of emotion, I felt everything Lucy felt every step of the way. This book interwove the storylines so beautifully. Who doesn’t love a gay best friend who will defend and support you no matter what. Even further, who understands you better than you know yourself and knows exactly what you need at any given moment. The secondary characters got such a big spotlight in this book and I loved every glimpse of them too. Everyone who loves romance novels and especially second-chance love stories must go read this book now!!! What makes it even better is the sequel is going to be released only a month after this book so you do not have to wait too long to continue this story!! This book left me speechless and I will be talking about it for a very long time. Wow. Beautiful work Robin Huber!!
