What a great book. I read this a few years after Anthony Bourdain's passing, but it was so interesting to see how others were impacted by Anthony Bourdain's world view and how he shared it on television. He traveled to many places that I may never have the chance to go and while he did share the food of the area, like many said in their tributes, he shared the people and the culture of the place. I appreciated reading what others thought of this very interesting man.

I didn't know this was a book of posts left on the CNN site after Bourdain died. I am a big fan of his and this was a nice cross section of people remembering what he meant to them. It was nice to read but the formatting was so bad it was really difficult to know who was saying what and where the pictures were from. It was a sweet quick read but I have to deduct a star for the formatting.

Anthony Bourdain was a powerful figure in the world of restaurants and gastronomy, and his death shook everyone who knew him.
CNN's photographic journey of Bourdain's travels, the people he encountered and the foods he discovered are a perfect homage to one of the world's best food and world explorers.

Anthony Bourdain Remembered is a beautiful tribute to a troubled, yet wonderful soul. I was a huge fan of his show on CNN and will on occasion, rewatch some episodes to remember his ability to touch others. This book has displays beautiful photographs of Anthony and the places and people. he visited.

Anthony Bourdain is more a series of remembrances of him told by his co-workers and friends. Included in the book are messages people wrote after hearing about Anthony’s untimely death. I'm so happy that CNN put this book together for those of us who truly miss this sensitive soul. He is missed.

Thanks to #NetGalley for a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. A solid 5 star book that you will enjoy.

I'm a casual fan of Anthony Bourdain- I didn't watch Parts Unknown on a regular basis, but I always enjoyed it when I did. After reading this book, I wish I'd watched every episode. Seeing this man through the eyes of the people whose lives he touched makes me wish I had known him. This is a lovely, moving tribute to a good man, and I'm glad that his estate decided to make it available publicly, as it was originally something CNN put together for his daughter.

IF I’M AN ADVOCATE FOR ANYTHING, IT’S TO MOVE. AS FAR AS YOU CAN, AS MUCH AS YOU CAN. ACROSS THE OCEAN, OR SIMPLY ACROSS THE RIVER. WALK IN SOMEONE ELSE’S SHOES OR AT LEAST EAT THEIR FOOD. IT’S A PLUS FOR EVERYBODY. ~ ANTHONY BOURDAIN

Anthony Bourdain's death hit me hard. I'm not even sure I can explain why. I'm as far from a foodie as you can get. I was not a religious viewer of his shows. But there was just SOMETHING about Tony that you knew, if you listened to the man for any length of time, was infinitely more than food and television. When I saw a galley of Remembering Anthony Bourdain I didn't even hesitate, just whispered an internal "Hell yes."

Had I looked more closely, I might have thought twice, so I'm glad I didn't. Bourdain worked for CNN and following his suicide the network established a social media portal that allowed fans to send in their thoughts, memories and thanks. The book is full of quotes from fans and famous collaborators, including Barack Obama, Eric Ripert, Ken Burns, and Iggy Pop to name just a few of the varied well-knowns.

At first it seemed a bit cheesy. The e-format did it no favors and it looked as though it had been hastily thrown together. Text didn't line up, photos were offset, you get the picture. Then two things happened. First, I read the book was originally created as a keepsake for Bourdain's daughter Ariane and his estate agreed to share it publicly. That made it seem less like a profit venture for CNN. Second, I saw a physical copy in my local indie. That's when I knew how much the e-galley really did it no favors. Because on nice stock, formatted correctly, it's really beautiful. I leafed through it all over again standing in the store and will definitely be buying a finished copy for my table.

STREET SENSE: Anyone who was either touched by Anthony Bourdain or wants to feel what it's like for one man to touch so many people should open this book and start perusing.

A FAVORITE PASSAGE: This book is nothing but lovely sentiments, which makes it a bit more difficult to pick a favorite. Here are a few that highlight how Bourdain inspired people to travel, inspired people who couldn't travel, and opened the world to tolerance:

"My mother had passed away, and one night I was watching him. Feeling lost and alone, I decided I was buying a plane ticket to Asia, one-way, packing a backpack, and going off the grid. I was going to eat with locals, and see the parts of Asia that I thought would only be a dream. I was going to find peace in losing my best friend and mother through travel and food. I would like to think if he would have ever known my story, he would have been proud of a fifty-year old single woman leaving the East Coast (US) and finding my way to new friends and an open mind to try anything even if I did not know what I was eating or even where I was going on a seven-week trip."

"I discovered Anthony Bourdain by accident and since then I have never missed an episode. My husband and I have a disabled son, so we will never get to travel the world, but with his show we got to see all these beautiful countries through his eyes. He has inspired us to be more open-minded."

"Anthony Bourdain traveled to Colombia (more than once) when people were still afraid to go there. He told our stories with respect, honesty, and kindness. He made me feel like Colombians mattered. I had fought the stereotypes of who we are in the US for so long. He showed the beauty and the pain we had gone through. Gracefully. He was my living room friend. An advocate. I am devastated by the loss of his voice."

"I regularly showed the Iran and Nigeria episodes of Parts Unknown in my high school comparative politics course. In Iran, he celebrated the beauty of ancient traditions that exists alongside religious fundamentalism and the oppression of journalists. In Nigeria, he painted a complicated portrait of cosmopolitanism and emerging economic power with extreme poverty and government corruption. Yes, he loved to sample the world’s food and drinks, but he used food and cooking and eating to explain some of the most basic sources of joy and meaning and pride that people can get out of life. Through these shows, he challenged Westerners (especially Americans) to question our perceptions and judgments of other cultures, to acknowledge history, and to embrace our common humanity."

I could go on. Just go get the book.

COVER NERD SAYS: The soul in those eyes.

This book is not so much a book as a collection of lovely remembrances from people who had their lives touched by Anthony Bourdain. It was nice to see the variety of ways he was able to help people get on the right path, or just inspire them to do more. Personally, it was a good way to get something positive out of the horrible loss of Anthony Bourdain. There is definitely a hole in all his fans where he once was - luckily many are choosing to give meaning to his life in their future actions.

This book deserves ten stars, as does Anthony himself. From his times being broke to as we knew him on the show, and beyond. A MUST read.

This is a collection of people reminiscing about meeting, being friend with, and encounters with the departed Anthony Bourdain. It is by turns sweet, funny, and touching-especially Eric Ripert's words (he was Bourdain's best friend). It is a shame he is gone, but he will live on in people's memories, as seen in this book.

Anthony Bourdain Remembered by CNN, was a very interesting book. Mr. Bourdain died in June 2018, after committing suicide, that left many people heartbroken, like my best friend. I knew who Mr. Bourdain was, but did not know much about him. This book was a wonderful tribute to the man. I recommend this book to anyone who wants an inside look at the man, and how he impacted so many lives.

I reviewed a digital arc provided by NetGalley and the publisher. Thank you.

When Anthony Bourdain died suddenly it was a shock to the world. He was universally beloved my people from all over the world. The lives he had changed through his food, books, and television series are innumerable. One of the few modern Renaissance men or women his gift to us was his ability to go to a place and see behind the curtain to the true heart of a location not the touristy tripe. He cared and listened and cherished each person and found the beauty in even harshest conditions. He was the voice of these people and places so rarely seen and showed Americans how to truly travel the world with hearts, minds and palates open for experiences. He taught us how to listen to the heart of a place and see the joy in the everyday.

This book is a beautiful tribute to Bourdain. Touching anecdotes from some of the lives he touched and made better, including pictures from his travels. I hope his legacy continues that he is never forgotten. He taught us so much and had so much more to teach. I hope we can learn from his life and death and help others. Time to make a Negroni and toast a life gone too soon.

Anthony Bourdain taught us to try new foods, to explore off the beaten path, and to get to know people on our travels. He inspired us to be better and more open minded people and showed us that people are around the world aren’t so different.

Anthony Bourdain Remembered is a wonderful collection of stories and quotes from those who knew him and those who didn’t but were still greatly impacted by him. Each story managed to capture how I felt as I watched No Reservations or Parts Unknown. This is an excellent tribute to someone who is missed so much by people around the world.

This book was received as an ARC from HarperCollins Publishers - Ecco in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.

I am very familiar with Anthony Bourdain and all that he has done with the food industry and the legacy he has created with his travel show and the cultures he has embraced. I also loved all of the celebrity chefs such as Richard Blais and Jose Andres give their thoughts and moments of Tony and the legacy he left behind. We will always remember the exotic food he shared through No Reservations and his experience traveling all over the world and the culinary knowledge the shared with the entire world.

We will definitely consider adding this title to our Non-Fiction collection at our library. That is why we give this book 5 stars.

I miss Anthony Bourdain !

Yes, that is right . I , do miss Anthony Bourdain.

I never met him personally or even saw him in RL from afar but I knew him. He came to my house, to my living room every week and showed me the world . People, culture , food and places that open my eyes and heart.

Anthony was a communicator , provocateur and humanist . His empathy and curious nature let him experience and see the world as few do ; and in those places he met and touch lot of people hearts.

And when he died , we all felt it . We lost a friend and through social media , people all over the world shared the impact he had in their lives. And we all saw, how far and wide the Anthony effect went.

This book is poignant and thoughtful collection of quotes, vignettes , memories and pictures commemorating
and remembering the life of Anthony Bourdain.

I . Love . this. Book.

I received an ARC of this book from the publisher through NetGalley for my honest review.
