“Whatever you do, don’t open the door…” – well that was enough for me to want to read this and it didn’t disappoint. It’s the story of Ellie, who leads a normal life by day but is cursed with a terrible disorder that sees her change into a violent and terrifying personality by night. I was gripped by the writing from the very start and couldn’t put it down. The twists and turns were wonderfully written – it was an emotionally, and slightly terrifying, roller-coaster of a read - one which will remain with me for some time to come. This is a stunning debut from an extremely talented writer – I look forward to reading more by Simants. . I was given a free copy of this book by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Wow Wow Wow -Ellie Power lives with her mother and has a loving boyfriend. But she also has a sleep disorder which causes her to act unpredictably and violently, and she never has any memory of what she’s done. This book blew me away and kept me awake till the early hours as I didn't want to put it down

This book is a psychological thriller. Or at least supposed to be.

*Contains spoilers*

So, it has few psychology elements and bit of a mystery. Not sure how much a mystery it was for others, but for me, I knew what would be the ending as soon as the characters were introduced. I had my suspicions about the ending way to early in the book, like in first ten chapters. By the fourteenth chapter I was sure it was the mother, when Mae talks about chronic truama and missing doctor files!

Because I knew how the ending was going to play out, I found the book entirely too long. There were entire long chapters that were dedicated to the discovery of every small thing. Also, as a personal preference, I don't enjoy reading about personal lives of the detectives, when I want them... detecting. I just felt that there was too much extraneous details that became entire chapters that bogged down the book.

The characters themselves were not very interesting, and fell quite flat. I would have expected at least Ellie to be exciting, but she just came off as unrealistic. While it would difficult for anyone to imagine writing from a point of view of a person suffering from dissociative personality, I was expecting from an author who basing their book on it. All the characters were unrelatable and boring. And cliche. I don't remember the last book I read that had a detective with a healthy and happy domestic life. Makes me want to writie a book with a happy detective just to spite all the other books out there!

The ending was happier than expected. And frustrating. So many things could have solved if people had just come clean before! The explanation was detailed and there were no apparent plot holes. That was a huge reason for why this book was not a complete flop for me.

Overall, while it wasn't an extraordinary book, it was a well written debut. I would rate it 3 out of 5 stars.

A good debut, although I do think that the story was bogged down with necessary dialogue, which if taken out would make the story flow better. Good story, plenty of twists and turns. Recommended.

By day, Ellie Power has a normal life. She has a stable home, a loving boyfriend, a future.

But at night, she suffers from a sleep disorder. She becomes angry, unpredictable, violent. Her mother locks her in her bedroom every night, to keep them both safe.

Mark my words this book is going to be a huge hit for this author. This is an exceptional thriller.

I really don't want to discuss the plot because I want everyone to discover this story on their own terms. It's intricate. It's breathtaking. It's heart-pumping. It's shiver inducing. It's everything I could ever ask for in this genre. I started this book yesterday morning and tore through 75% without even realizing it. I was completely riveted to the pages.

Thank you to NetGalley and publishing company for providing me with a digital ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Wow what a debut thriller! Ellie Power is a normal girl except when it comes to bedtime, as her mother has to lock her in her room to keep everyone safe. Ellie has DID (Dissociate Identity Disorder), an illness that puts everyone around her at risk. It makes her a completely different person. One morning Ellie wakes to find the lock on her bedroom door is broken, she's covered in cuts and bruises and her boyfriend is missing. What happened that night?

This was so original and such great writing. I loved the writing and the pacing was on point to make for a phenomenal thrill ride. This novel will keep you guessing. Love love love. 4.5 big stars!

Ellie has DID (dissociative identity disorder) and has violent dissociative episodes where she becomes incredibly violent. Ellie and her mum live a reclusive life together to escape from the repercussions of her violent episodes, and to prevent more people from being hurt than have been already.

This novel appealed to me because of the DID- I’ve really enjoyed books before on this topic as it’s so interesting.

Things aren’t always as they seem however, and the book went in a direction that I definitely didn’t expect. A solid 3 stars for me.

This was an amazing and very intriging novel. I loved it, it kept me guessing the whole time how it would end. It’s also a story about love, about mental disorders, and about the lengh we are able to go to protect the ones we love. It’s a very different mystery, with amazing characters.
