Madeline Crosby, is a homeless woman and a little girl called Rosie notices her and can’t understand why no one will help her. People either give Maddy a look of pity, some might give her a small amount of money and others simply look away. It’s very hard to be clean living on the streets and sleeping rough and Maddy’s quite aware of the fact she smells.

Rosie doesn’t notice, she’s five and wants her mother Becca to help her new friend. Her teenage brother Alex finds the idea of helping a homeless person revolting, so does Becca’s neighbor and friend Sarah. How could Becca trust a woman who’s being living on the streets, she could be a drug addict or a serial killer?

Maddy's a person who’s made mistakes in her life, things happened that she had no control over and like everyone she has secrets. As the story unfolds, you discover that Becca chose to end her marriage, Sarah became pregnant as a teenager and theirs defiantly serious tension between Maddy and Sarah.

Invisible Girl is a story that slowly reveals information about Madeline’s past, and not judging someone who’s homeless, and everyone's invisible in different ways. When Madeline’s main secret is finally uncovered, it’s a big shock, and I certainly didn't see it coming.

Thank you to the author, Jill Childs, the publishing company, Bookouture, and NetGalley for an electronic copy of this book, for an honest review.

Such a beautiful and emotional read....once you start, you definitely don't want to put this one down. The author knows how to put the emotion into the words of each paragraph throughout this book, and leaves you teary-eyed and heartbroken the further you get into this book.

What a great domestic drama, and utterly brilliant. If I could give 10 stars, I would do so.

I received a digital ARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This was my first book by Jill Childs and I was pleasantly surprised. I did enjoy it, although it wasn't as 'heartbreaking' as it was billed to be. It was a really sweet heart warming story of a homeless lady, which really makes you think about their past life and what has led to them being on the streets. Everyone has a story to tell and we must be careful not to judge based on their appearances.

This book was an interesting read. It has a lot of twists and turns to definitely hold your interest. I like the fact it's a "clean" read without a lot of language or smut. It will pull at your heartstrings and get yours adrenaline going as well. I gave it 4 out of 5 because it was a little bit predictable.

Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for allowing me to read this Arc.
This is based on a down and out homeless lady named Maddy.
She sleeps wherever she can, more often in a doorway as she watches two women as they take their little daughters to and from school. What is her fascination with them? Or is her fascination with just one of them??
A very emotional read. I would highly recommend it.

This one kind of threw me for a loop!
Every family has secrets that they'd rather not see the light of day, tucked back into a closet to stay!
This is my first read by this new to me author.
This book takes you on a roller coaster of emotions with no way to jump off.
Fast paced and absolutely brilliant. I truly didn't see it coming. This book will keep you on your toes!

Becca has chosen to leave her husband, Mark, due to his controlling ways. She is the mother of Alex, a teenager, and Rosie, age 5.

One day, Rosie sees a homeless woman on the sidewalk and is very concerned about her because it is so cold. She insists that Becca invite her into their home for the night. Against her better judgment, Becca brings her to their apartment for the night where she allows the woman to bathe in their tub, washes her clothes, and lets her sleep on the sofa for the night. The woman’s name is Madeleine Crosby. She goes by the name of Maddy. She was once an English teacher but has now become an alcoholic homeless woman. The next day, Becca sends her on with a change of clothes.

Maddy sees her friend who shares his alcohol with her and they get very drunk. That night, they are attacked and beaten by some males intent on hurting homeless people. Maddy is found the next day by the playground by Becca and Rosie and is sent to the hospital. Rosie again suggests they visit her and invite her for Christmas lunch. Going against her better judgment, Becca agrees because her daughter is such a compassionate little girl.

Maddy becomes ingrained with Becca and her neighbor, Sarah. Little by little we piece together Maddy’s background and what happened to her.

This is a sad and rather dark book which certainly gives the reader an insight to the life of a homeless person and how far they fall. But it’s more than that. It’s a story of motherhood and the love that we have for our children.

Copy provided by NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.

This is a very emotional story which makes you wonder who exactly is telling the truth. It certainly will make me look at homeless people in a completely different way

Wow...a unique voice and perspective are found in this book. The author pulls you in page by page until you are fully immersed. The storyline pulses. While not necessarily my cup of tea, nonetheless it is worth a read. It is a book that you’ll either love or perhaps put down but an interesting perspective and voice does grab you in.

Book Court - Where I'm the Judge and Jury!

CHARGE (What was the author trying to say?): To explore whether broken relationships can be restored.

FACTS: This book is written from the viewpoint of several different characters. That seems popular right now, but I find it annoying. Choices have long-reaching consequences. Sometimes those choices splinter relationships. What are we willing to risk for our children – or in what ways are we willing to expose our children to risk? “Ah the tales within a family that are never told.” Do we really even want to hear them? What secrets lurk in a family? What really makes a family? This is an interesting look and loss and reunion, though it was a little too predictable.

VERDICT (Was the author successful?): Guilty, as charged.

I have never read anything by this author. I was pleasantly surprised that I may have found a new author to follow. This book was well written and kept my attention. It sort of reminded me of Jodi Picoult. I will probably order this book for the library and see how others feel about this author.

Heartbreaking and emotional
"Invisible Girl" is the third heartbreaking and emotional book by Jill Child, and the first book of hers which I read. It is published by Bookouture and takes place in London.
Becca, the mother of Rosie (5 years old) and Alex (14 years old), had been married to Mark who became subtly controlling and manipulative. She lives in a small flat and works part-time as a cook in a wine-bar. Rosie is the one who actually sees Maddy first and develops a relationship with her. Maddy is a former English teacher, a homeless alcoholic. She remembers sleeping in an army-issued bed in Cyprus in a room next to her parents and was in a relationship with John when she previously lived in Yorkshire. Maddy considers herself alive because she was seen by Rosie, but seems to have also a reason to watch people from "her doorway." When she does a "good deed" for Becca and later, after she was attacked on the street, Becca provides a place for Maddy to stay. One important question is: Will Maddy be able to stay sober?
Sarah is the mother of Ella, Rosie's friend. She lives in the same building as Becca and her children and works in a shoe store. But Becca wonders how Sarah can afford the gifts she gives, not only for Christmas. What is Sarah's secret?
The story switches between the accounts of Becca, Maddy, Sarah but that does not influence the story line negatively. It is a heartbreaking story with realistic characters, both honest and shocking. I highly recommend this well written book to readers who do not shy away from difficult topics such as alcoholism or homelessness.
The complimentary copy of this book was provided by the publisher through NetGalley free of charge. I was under no obligation to offer a positive review. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of ‘Invisible Girl’ by Jill Childs in exchange for an honest review.

I had my reservations at the beginning of the novel. I wasn’t sure about the style of writing. That said, I was quickly pulled into the story of Becca, Rosie, Sarah, Ella, and Maddy.

The characters lives intertwine beautifully and it’s easy to find most of them likeable. The premise is heartbreaking, but provides some thought provoking moments about life how choices and circumstances can lead to a downfall.

4.5 tragically beautiful stars! This is truly the story of Maddy - a middle-aged homeless woman. You might think it's about Becca and her children Rosie and Alex. Or even Becca's friend, Sarah, and her daughter Ella. However, the story centers around Maddy, who has been living rough on and off for years. Becca's daughter, Rosie, takes a shine to Maddy on the street one day. There is just some connection between the two, and that starts the journey all these characters take together. I have always been fascinated by stories of homeless people, how they ended up there and how they survive. It hurts my soul very deeply at how they are overlooked, ignored, rarely afforded even the comforts of human interaction - a touch, a hug, comforting words - let alone just the basic comforts we all deserve such as food, shelter, and simply being visible. Yes, I know all the arguments. They choose this life. Most of them aren't even homeless and are running a scam. They should just get a job. Don't give them money as they'll only buy booze or drugs. And it breaks my freaking heart. These are human beings. Not every one of them is scheming. It isn't my job to judge them or determine who or who isn't worthy of help. I just do what I can and let God sort out the rest. But, I digress. As I said, everyone has a story to tell, and the story of Maddy is truly tragic. She ended up where she is because of a mixture of alcoholism, a relationship with a man who had mental illness, and a whole series of events that led her to her current circumstances. And while there is sadness and tragedy and ugliness within these pages, there is also hope and healing and true shining beauty.

I enjoyed the characters but did not find the story interesting. It was interesting to figure out how everyone was related to each other. Overall it was an ok book.

Thanks as usual to Bookouture for the pleasure of reviewing this book and to the author Jill Child's. I really enjoyed this read and the heart warming story. Set around a homeless woman Maddy and single mother Becca. What is the underlining relationship as all is not what it first appears. This book certainly gets the reader thinking and will stay with you long after you turn the last page.
