Clay finally gets his fantasy fulfilled when he gets Jordan in his bed. She is still fragile from the death of her husband and the gossip she has endured. Being together is a lesson in learning to love herself and living her fullest life. Filled with steamy scenes and a very hunky guy
Jordan has lived her life the focus of gossip as a gold digger for marrying a wealthy man almost 20 years her senior. Now a widow who's body only tingles for Clay a man who is about 10 years her junior. Clay and Jordan are so sexually charged whenever they are around one another. Trying to stay on the down low is difficult when no one seems to want them together but them. Clay worked hard to build up Jordan self esteem and tell her how amazing she is. It took Jordan believing in herself to make their love work.
I recently downloaded this title from NetGalley and was looking forward to an easy, sexy romance to sink into. The story is about Jordan who has been widowed for a few years and her friend trying to get her back in the saddle again, so to speak. She briefly sees a man’s ass, and yes, that’s what I meant to say, at a party and suddenly feels a spark within that she thought had long since died. Then she sees said ass again in an elevator and they basically mount one another then and there. Turns out, ass man is Clay who is tens years younger than her and a former boyfriend of her step-daughter Amelia. Thus begins gossip and drama revolving around their “relationship” ranging from the age difference to her being after his money to her having an affair with him years earlier when he was just a young buck lusting after a MILF in a white bikini.
Here is what I enjoyed about this book. I liked the basic premise of a woman rediscovering her sexuality and desire. I liked that a woman flirting with hitting forty could once again feel so alive, desirable, and insatiable. And I loved her relationship with her step-daughter Amelia. Moreover, there were some very hot and steamy scenes that you practically need a fan to cool yourself off. Lavinia Hunt can write some steam.
My issues with the book are mainly that there was no real substance. Are they in love? Are they in lust? Does he even like Jordan or is Clay just finally fulfilling a seventeen-year-old boy’s fantasy? Clay seemed like such a deliciously complex character at first, but then, there was nothing. We know he’s always wanted her, he got her, she kept pushing him away, and he was o.k. with that. Where were Clay’s emotions? Where were Jordan’s? The first time they have a real conversation it turns into what they referred to as an argument and broke up. If that’s an argument worth walking away from someone then sign me up because life must be extraordinarily carefree and easy for these characters.
This is a book where I was told about their desires, believed their sexual chemistry, but felt nothing beyond that. Which was so frustrating because there was so much potential!
What I took away from the book was that Jordan talks like a prudish nun, but then wants to be a little freaky behind closed doors. I have no issue with that but if anyone discussed anything other than charity work in her presence, she was offended. Nevermind the thoughts going through her head while thinking about Clay and the little shows she put on while with him. By all means, make your heroine a secret sex kitten while acting polite and formal in society, but give her a voice besides complaining, denying, and/or debating.
Praise for Lavinia Hunt tastefully tackling an older woman/younger man storyline, but the characterization was just too flat for me. And the ending…. It was about as solid with about as much closure as the first time we met a Mrs. Robinson in The Graduate.
*Thanks to NetGalley and Loveswept for providing this ARC in exchange for my honest review!
This book has a lot of potential, but it left me wanting. Clay and Jordan were super hot together and that’s about it. There was some chemistry, but I didn’t really feel they had anything more than a sexual relationship. I think that’s why I’m struggling. Their real relationship basically started at the last chapter and then the story was over. An epilogue would have been nice, but I don’t know if it could have completely saved the story. I’m giving it three stars because it was sexy. That was it’s saving grace.
May/December relationships aren't really my thing but the blurb for this book drew me straight in.
A woman who was married to a wealthy older man enters into a relationship with a younger man once widowed? The element of the forbidden, the emotional baggage, the obstacles to overcome... It should have made for an epic story.
Unfortunately, it wasn't.
It was a very average story.
Jordan is only 10 years older than Clay (and she's still under 40) so it's not like the age difference is dramatic. The complications of knowing him as a teenager weren't really that complicated and the biggest blocker to their relationship was Mrs Robinson herself caring way too much about what the self-obsessed wasps of her social circle would think.
It got tedious very quickly.
I couldn't connect with Jordan nor could I fully connect with Clay. Clay didn't feel like a fully fleshed out character and Jordan was unrelatable.
The writing was pretty good and the sex was hot but even reading about hot sex is boring if you're not feeling the emotion behind it and I didn't feel the emotion behind this at all. It felt like Clay was living his teenaged fantasy and Jordan was having a long-overdue rebound fling that went sideways.
How they went from lust to love ever after I still can't work out...
But anyway, it passed the time and kept me amused as long as I read it in bite-sized pieces (about a quarter of the book a night over 4 nights).
Unsuitable is billed as a contemporary romance but it's more of a contemporary/erotic hybrid, imo.
It was easy enough to read but don't expect too much. However, if you're a fan of corporate guys and ladies who lunch then it might me right up your street!
When I think of author Lavinia Kent, I always think of historical romance. So, when the opportunity to read and review UNSUITABLE came along, I was intrigued, and quick to jump at the chance.
Firstly, I have to say, this book is about as far from historical romance as it could be. I would describe UNSUITABLE as contemporary erotic romance, and possibly even steamier than I was anticipating. Because, let's face it, a book with an older heroine and a younger man, both of them successful and attractive, is bound to have those moments, and plenty of them, if it's well done. And UNSUITABLE has them in spades, making for a sophisticated and polished read that I very much enjoyed.
This is definitely not the typical HEA, but a HFN works just fine for me sometimes, and Lavinia does a lovely job of giving readers just that. I could understand both Jordan's and Clay's points of view, the things that drew them to each other, and the very real differences between them. It was nice to read a book that started out going one direction, but didn't settle in the expected way, and I would really like to see more of these characters and how they've navigated their relationship as the series progresses.
A solid 4-star read for me, UNSUITABLE is one book that I'm glad that I took the chance on. I will definitely be on the lookout for future additions to this series.
Jordan Robinson is a widow with needs. Needs she's actively looking to see assuaged.
Clay had a crush on Jordan for years. He's much younger with a butt that catches and holds Jordan's attention.
She thinks he seems familiar, but they hook up with out her knowing his true identity.
The hook up as hot and fast. The only problem?
Clay was once her stepdaughter Amelia's boyfriend.
Yep. Mrs. Robinson. That makes him completely unsuitable.
Unsuitable is well-written with good pacing and flow. However, if you're looking for feels, this one doesn't quite deliver. Jordan and Clay have good sexual chemistry, and there is plenty of time spent between the sheets, which doesn't leave a lot of time for actual romance. The story isn't the typical cougar romance, which is refreshing. Jordan isn't out looking for a younger man, and she definitely doesn't want to be the topic of gossip. In fact, she comes across as the more innocent of the pair, especially once Clay's history is revealed. There are a couple of scenes that were a little over the top, most notably, Clay and Jordan's first meeting in the elevator, but unbelievable or not, it was certainly sexy. So, if nothing else, this one is great for a bit of escapism. In the end, I would've liked more depth in the romance, but the story is fast-paced and entertaining with a happy for now conclusion.
This is the first in the Forbidden Cove series. I found that it was a bit slow with the take-off. Then it had a steady pace once you got going. You have a very well off woman who married her husband and he was older than her. Now, she is a thirty-eight-year-old widow and looking for something.
I found a Jordan to be the woman that wanted to have sex again but just wasn't compatible with anyone. She felt no sparks. Every time she talked to someone she was looking for that spark. Her friend even tried to push her. She is strong and stable and getting by in life but she wants more
Enter Clay. He is ten years her junior and he knows her. He used to date her stepdaughter years ago. The entire time he had a thing for Jordan. He always was enamored with her. Found her the sexy older woman. He knew he meant nothing to her other than dating Amelia.
I felt the connection later in the story. In the beginning, I just felt that Clay wanted to just have her. Yes, he liked her but he didn't know her. I love a good May/December romance but this one was just missing some romance. The sex was hot don't get me wrong but I wanted depth. I wanted something everyone dreams of. I wanted starry eyes and hearts and that was missing.
Now, don't get me wrong. I liked the book fine. The writing is good and the people can be related to. I actually like the people in this book. Even the judgemental ones. This one just fell short of what I was looking for. I also felt I was left hanging a little at the end. It ends clearly but I wanted more I guess you could say. I want to read the next book and see where this series goes.
Clay and Jordan had previously met in the past when he dated her step daughter and she was happily married. Clay has always had a thing for Jordan and now that she is widowed and he is single is the time for him to take a chance. When they meet and sparks fly and the chemistry takes it over the results lead to many bumps down the road. Must read this book!
A reverse on the May/December romance, this features an older widow, Jordan who is reunited with a man she first met when he was 17 and dating her stepdaughter. Turns out he's the only man who can thaw her frozen heart, and she's the only woman he's ever wanted. History has painted her as gold digger and she can't bear to be the focus of new scrutiny by getting involved with a much younger man under these circumstances. Will she ignore her growing feelings to preserve the frozen peace she currently maintains? Will Clay stand aside and be ignored or fight for what he's always wanted?
This title has great potential, but it comes in around a 3.5 star for me. Jordan is tough to like. She's so wishy-washy. Maybe that's exactly what she needs to be because I can't imagine how she feels having lived through her circumstances, but it was a frustrating read at times because I had difficulty relating to her personally. Clay didn't harbor the same personality flaw so I'll round up to 4, but I hope future books in the series have stronger characters... I also hope to see where this romance has gone.
I reviewed an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
I love the whole reverse May/December concept. I felt that there seemed to be more maturity in the younger man, than in the older woman. The insecurities in Jordan were completely understandable, given the gossip and cattiness she endured with her older husband, but I think the way in which she dealt with them were juvenile.. There were a couple times when I had to walk away from the story because of the "best" friend, who seemed to do nothing but antagonize the lead character, while pretty much hiding her life away. But, it this is a series, then maybe we get to know her story, too. No one can deny the steamy love scenes between Jordan and Clay. They had a chemistry the was instant and strong. I love love and happy endings.
2 stars is being generous.
This book is not plot-driven or character-driven...it’s sex-driven. The plot isn’t even that good. I found myself skipping the sex scenes (which there were a lot of) because there was nothing extraordinary about them - they were just average. It was a very average read.
It took over 60% of the book for the characters to realize that, maybe, they should be using contraceptives. Like, why? Why did it take that long?
I like this. Book. This was the first book I read by Lavinia Kent. Ive already looked up more books by her and cant wait to see what else she comes out with.
Jordan Robinson is a 38-year-old widow. Her husband was older, well-established, and wealthy, and she was rumored to be a gold digger when they married. Now that she's single again, she's wondering if she'll have a second chance at love. Clay Windsor was 17 years old when he first laid eyes on Jordan. She was the older woman he loved to fantasize about. Now, 10 years later, he's all grown up and running a successful company. When Jordan and Clay meet in an elevator, she's thrilled to find a man who turns her on and he's thrilled to have a chance with his teenage crush. They begin seeing each other discreetly, but when news starts to circulate about their relationship, rumors fly once again -- only this time it's about Jordan the cradle robber and cougar. Can Jordan put the gossip of others aside to realize her true feelings for Clay? Is Clay willing to defend Jordan's honor and fight to keep her in his life?
I was really looking forward to this book. It's a great plot with so much potential. Unfortunately, something was off for me about Unsuitable. I normally burn through contemporary romances but this book was a struggle. I had a hard time relating to Jordan and Clay. Jordan was indecisive and somewhat unbelievable as a 38-year-old woman. I've read about 20-year-old characters with stronger convictions. She came across as wishy-washy and frivolous which made her unlikable for me. Perhaps that's the way she was intentionally written, but I was unable to relate with her.
I also didn't really connect with Clay. Again, I wish I could put my finger on what it was, but I just couldn't get excited about him. Most of the details that stand out about him are physical descriptors so maybe he wasn't given as much depth as I'm used to.
The dialogue in this book contained a lot of rambling. I found myself having to reread scenes to understand what what being said. Some of the rambling is how Jordan behaved when she was nervous, but it seemed to lapse over into other scenes as well. The story struggled to progress through the dialogue.
For some reason, I didn't connect with this book the way I was hoping. I applaud the author for a fantastic premise. Unfortunately, Unsuitable just didn't deliver for me.
This book is about 38 year old widow, Jordan Robinson, who falls for 28 year old, Clay Windsor, who happens to be an ex high school boyfriend of her step-daughter. Jordan tries to fight the pull of her attraction to Clay because she knows that it will lead to more negative gossip and publicity which she doesn't want after being subjected to it for so long with her first marriage to a much older man. However Clay makes her feel things that she has never felt and they cannot seem to stay away from each other until a small article about their relation appears on page 6 of the local paper. Jordan freeks and gets into an argument over it with Clay and they wind up calling an end to their relationship. I won't tell you whether or not they get back together, but I will say that the book's ending is kind of unfinished to me. Perhaps this is because this is just book #1 in a new series. I really hope that Miss Kent continues some of the story lines in this book in the rest of the series.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Jordan married an older rich man when she was young. Now a widower - and at her sexual peak, Jordan finds herself drawn to Clay. There's something about Clay that her circle of friends wouldn't approve, but her body is telling her to just go with it.
Livinia Kent know how to write well. This isn't a romance novel. This is erotic and sexy and full of moments where you shouldn't be reading it on the subway because you can feel yourself getting hot under the collar. ;)
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book
A very hot Mrs. Robinson and a now, very grown-up Clay set these pages on fire! Written in the 3rd person, it almost given a voyeur type feel when I read this book. Watching the chase, and push and pull between these two made for a fast paced book. Jordan and Clay are two that you will come to know, adore, and root for. Can Clay finally achieve what he's dreamed of since he was seventeen? Can Jordan realize that Clay is not a teenager anymore, but a smoking hot grown man who knows what he wants? The book ends with a happy ending, but definitely has room to be expanded upon, or broken off with Jordan's best friend.
This book is definitely erotica. I enjoyed it and it is pretty fast paced. I'm interested in this authors future works.

Jordan Robinson has been the talk of the social circle before, and it's not really something she has ever wanted to repeat. When she met and married her much older husband, everyone had something to say about it, and were quick to place labels. But now that her husband has passed, and appearances don't necessarily need to be maintained, she has slipped out of the circle and maintained a lower profile. She still tends to the charities she is in charge of, but that is about the only time she mingles with the wealthy, often preferring to stay home and enjoy the peace and tranquility it provides.
But all her hard work to stay hidden is about to go to waste... she has caught the eye of a younger, wealthy mogul named Clay, and as soon as her "precious circle" finds out, its bound to be front page news. Which makes her want to run for hills... but temptation keeps drawing her back in!
Unsuitable is an erotic little page-turner brimming with scorching heat that is bound to have your tablet on the verge of overheating! This was a first time read for me, and I have to say I was left impressed with what I found, the words were well crafted and kept me engaged throughout, and the characters had a real feel quality, and were easy to connect to. I didn't get an overly romantic vibe from this one, I would say it more so lies in the erotic genre, revolving more around between the sheets action then heading towards a blissful traditional happily ever after. With that being said though, I want to stress the fact that I DID really enjoy the story, and I kind of liked the fact that it wasn't your typical romance story, I found it to be somewhat refreshing change of pace actually. I loved the dynamic of their relationship, appreciated the approach the author took with the story line, and how she handled the nature of their relationship (older woman, younger man). I am looking forward to future installments, and to see what she has in store for readers and the characters in this series next! If you like your stories on the steamier side, then I highly suggest you take a chance on this one, it's Hot! Hot! Hot!!
