This was a very entertaining read by a new author for me. It was a nice historical romance for those who like their characters fully developed with thoughts and feelings of their own. I liked the flow of the book which was well and truly romance.
Finlay Swinton, Viscount Firthwell, is the son of a earl whose life is lived to the fullest. Until a secret he finds out could possible ruin his family. He will be his own man free of scandal and become what he was meant to be.
He runs for office in Parliament and feels the need of his class to be better.
Finlay meets the woman who he shared a night of passion with and then disappeared afterward. He can't stay away from Charlotte who teaches at a foundling home. She is a different kind of woman than those Finlay has dealt with and is intrigued with her refusal to see him.
But once they come together in passion, he wants her so bad no matter what. There is someone in Charlotte's past that will harm her with her new found love.
This book is one to read for it has a happy ever after, and the trials these two go through to get there.
I appreciate Net Galley for the ARC title in which I gave an honest review.

This is my first time reading this author and while this is book two in a series I didn’t know it until I sat down to write this review. To me that speaks volumes about both the superior writing ability of the author as much as my enjoyment of the book, and please know I REALLY enjoyed this book. I love this book for its historical accuracy even as it shines a light on prejudices of the era. It is so refreshing to me when an author isn’t afraid to show the darker side or history. I love how the leading characters overcome their societal differences and find passion in one another.
Finlay Swinton, Viscount Firthwell is in line to inherit a prominent Earldom as long as his family’s darkest secret stays a secret. After a renewed acquaintance with a woman he shared a single unforgettable night of passion turns sour will his entire future be lost?
Charlotte Taylor has found a perfect job, and with her fond memories of a night of unbridled passion and freedom, she is ready to start her new life. All until that perfect new job causes her become reacquainted with the man she shared that night with. When her past catches up to her will she betray the man she loves to protect herself or will she sacrifice her life to protect his future?
This was a book I couldn’t put down and I can’t wait to get my hands on its predecessor.

To Resist a Scandalous Rogue by Liana De la Rosa is book Two in the Once Upon A Scandal Series. This is the story of Charlotte Taylor and Finlay Swinton, Viscount Firthwell. I have read the previous book, but feel you can make this a standalone book if you wish to do so.
Charlotte is a widower who is struggling to make it but finally setting into a teaching job teaching at a foundling school. Prior to this she and Finlay happen to meet which lead to a hot encounter but didn't see each other again until about 1 year later. Finlay has come to town to pursue his political goals. Both are from different class and religions but their feelings keep drawing them toward each other.
Enjoyed their story.

Although this story involves a lot of politics and religion, it also showcases how wonderful friendships can be and how important it is to be able to trust.

My heart went out to Charlotte, she's gone through so much and feels she'll never be able to be with Finlay because she's Jewish, is a widow, is penniless and has no title. Back in that era, being Catholic was the only acceptable religion. She's also being blackmailed by her former in laws!

Finlay has worked hard to get to where he is, politically speaking, but knows that if his secret ever comes out (he and his twin sister were born out of wedlock), his career would be destroyed. Add to that the fact that he's in love with Charlotte and knows that if the ton should hear of their relationship, it would also destroy his career. A lot of heartache happens before he and Charlotte can find their HEA.

Well , to my shame, it’s the first book that I’ve read by the author although I’ve heard great things about her stories before from my book friends.
Even if it’s the second book in the series, it can easily be read as a stand-alone.There are some secrets and questions that I had and apparently I will get the answer in the first book but that didn’t deter me from enjoying this book .
It’s a book filled with so many emotions and feelings, I enjoyed everything about it, the writing, the characters, the twists and turns, all the topics that maybe even in our times our society is still struggling with it.
I loved everything and looking forward to the next books in the series.

Finlay is trying to turn his life around after learning a secret that could shatter his world. Trying to forget what happened, he attends a house party where he meets Charlotte. They feel an immediate attraction and spend the night together, but she disappears in the morning.

Charlotte is a widow and desperately needs a job. She thought she would be a maid at the house party, but her cousin didn't tell her the truth. Not willing to lay on her back for money, she decides to spend the night and leave in the morning. Unable to sleep, she goes to the garden where she meets Finlay. Charlotte knows that there can never be anything between her and Finlay and she heads back to London before he makes an offer that she can't refuse. She luckily finds a job at a foundling home, teaching the children.

A year later, Finlay and Charlotte meet up again. Their attraction is still red hot. Can anything permanent come from it?

I loved Finlay and Charlotte's story! I loved that they were able to have meaningful conversations between each other. Even though they only spent one night together, you get the feeling that they have known each other for much longer because of their strong connection. This was a great addition to the series and I hope that De la Rosa continues it, as I have throughly enjoyed it!

I gave this a five-star review because of the unusual subject matters. It describes London in the 1820's and shows the ugly side of religious prejudice and people who grew up as Lords and Ladies only to find out the dark secret that they were born on the wrong side of the blanket. The characters were well written and their personalities are fantastic. They dealt with their situations realistically. They bore the scars of the wrongs in their life with as much dignity and grace as possible. However, there was suffering along with painful things said and done. If the wrong people found out or the characters went out of step, they could ruin their lives irrevocably. This is a well written book and a must read. I highly recommend it. The more I read of this story the more I enjoyed it. There were a number of interesting characters in this story, the main two, being Charlotte and Finlay. Finlay, Viscount Firthwell, was very interested in parliament and had political aspirations. He also had a damaging secret. Charlotte was a widow who was left to fend for herself. She was also a Jew, which would not be approved of on some circles. There were also some who wanted to cause her harm . This was an engaging story and although the politics of the day played a part, there was still heartfelt, passionate moments between Charlotte and Finlay. I received a copy and have voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This was a little different to the usual HEA that I read. This is the first of Ms De La Rosa’s books that I have read. It was a bit heavy on the politics and religion and I found it a bit hard to get into. But once I did, I enjoyed. I found that it was well written and would read more of Ms De La Rosa’s books. The characters were well presented and I enjoyed the fact that the beginning didn’t start with a complicated sex scene, which is something that would have happened in a lot of other books. I received this book as an ARC.

This is my fair and honest review in return for this ARC. It takes a bit for me to give a 5 star rating to a book. This was an easy decision. This story is truly good!! It is a romance but it is so much more than that. The writing, the characters and the story is perfect! You do not often find historical romance in England that incorporates mixed religions. The female lead is a Jewish widow, which in itself is out of the norm. But the tale is so involved and it will keep you on the edge of your seat with the book firmly in your grip. TOP NOTCH BOOK!!!

A story about finding love in the middle of political and social revolution. Charlotte and Findlay are facing personal struggles in their lives. They are attracted to each other but believe that forming a relationship would be detrimental. Charlotte is strong willed and determined in her need to survive on her own. Findlay wants to care for her but there are forces working against them. The story shows their strength and resilience to stand up for what they believe in and support the people they love at all costs.

This was the first book I have read by this author but it was a good book. It was well written and the author did a great job with the political and religion issues during that time frame. The characters were strong and had several obstacles in their path but they were able to find their HEA. I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

If you enjoy Regency romances, To Resist a Scandalous Rogue is the book for you. Such a wonderful hero! I really loved this one!

Many thanks to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for my ARC. All opinions are my own.

This was not at all a typical historical romance novel, so it may polarise reviews from readers depending on what they are expecting when they pick it up. My suggestion would be to read the description before buying. Unlike many historical romance novels it heavily involves Politics and religion, and though it was plot relevant it seemed to take over the story at times to the detriment of everything else.

Overall I’m rating this book a solid 3.5/5 as it was a good story, well written with interesting elements.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I received an ARC of this book to read through NetGalley in exchange for a fair review. To Resist a Scandalous Rogue by Liana De la Rosa is the second book in her Once Upon a Scandal series. It can be read as a stand-alone but I enjoyed the first book and recommend reading it. Charlotte Taylor recently widowed has been left with nothing after the death of her husband, so when her cousin offers her a job as a maid she jumps at the chance only to find that the job really involves entertaining gentlemen at a house party and not by tidying their bedrooms. Findlay Swinton, Viscount Firthwell attended the house party as an escape from pressures in his life and once he arrives realizes that the entertainments offered are not really to his taste anymore. Looking to escape the house party they meet in the garden and an enjoyable evening conversing and laughing turns into something more but because of the differences in their status and Charlottes Judaism that night is all that they can have. Nasty villains, political maneuvering and adorable orphans make for a story that will keep you up late reading. Medium Steam. Readable book with an interesting premise about the stigma of the Jewish faith in the 18th century.

Charlotte is a desperately poor widow. She married above her, and went out to India with her late husband, however, his parents were against the union and threw her out when their son died and she was forced to sell her wedding ring to return to England. She is offered an evenings work by her cousin, and meets Finlay, Viscount Firthwell. They are instantly attracted to each other, but Charlotte runs away from Finlay, as she realises they are of different classes.

They meet again when Finlay visits the foundling home that Charlotte teaches at. They are drawn to each other once again. Finlay is working hard to overcome his exiled father’s poor investments by spending time restoring his estates, he is also determined to overcome his father’s disreputable past by standing for parliament in his own right as an MP. He can’t afford for his scandalous secret to be revealed, or afford to act on his irresistible attraction to Charlotte. Her low birth and Jewish faith will affect his chances of winning his seat Charlotte has problem’s of her own, her former in law’s have sent thugs after her and are trying to extort Money from her.

Can they overcome their obstacles to find their HEA?

It is very unusual to read about a Jewish heroine, and the background about the politics of the day was also very interesting, the relationship between Charlotte and Finlay was well drawn, and I did enjoy the story.

Recommended.

Widowed, penniless, and desperate, Charlotte Taylor (Townsend) secures a teaching position at a foundling home and relaxes into a predictable existence. That is, until Finlay, the man she shared one romantic night with, reappears, a specter from her past.
Charlotte has been successfully hiding from her former in-laws until Finlay who is embroiled in politics causes attention to her.
I found this to be one of the better books that I have read by this author though I disliked the religious/political nature. This made it a challenging read. It took me longer to read this one as I would leave off and come back at a later time.
I gave this book and overall rating of 4 of 5 stars.
I received a complimentary ARC of this book to read. This in no way affected my opinion which I gave voluntarily.

Charlotte Townsend was left destitute after her husband Roderick died and she learned that his will did not make any provisions for her, penniless and alone in India, she sells her wedding ring and travels back to England. When a chance encounter with her cousin Eliza offers employment, Charlotte willingly accepts, until she finds out the job is not what she expected. She refuses and goes into the garden to think. While she is sitting there, a guest from the party joins her, they talk and share a drink, one thing leads to another and soon they are sharing much more…

Finlay, Viscount Firthwell and heir to Earl of Rockhaven is attending the party hoping to forget the devastating news he and his twin sister have recently learned about their father. Instead he finds he has no desire to lose himself in debauchery and heads out to the garden, where he meets Charlotte, she is nothing like any of the women he has known before and after a passionate night together, he wants more, but when he wakes and realizes she is gone, he decides to return to the country and get his estate in order, then figure out how to make a name for himself that isn’t dependent on his father’s title.

A year passes before they meet again, she is teaching at the foundling school and he has returned to London to gain support for his run for the House of Commons. He is delighted to see her again and even though he knows she is not for him, he can’t seem to stay away. Charlotte finally has some security in her life, but ghosts from her past still haunt her and could destroy Finlay’s hopes for a seat in the House of Commons. She tries to keep him at arm’s length, but finally gives in to the passion that never died.

When her past threatens not only her future, but those of the people she holds dear, Charlotte must decide if she can betray the man she loves to save him or will she sacrifice herself instead?

This was a very well written, emotionally charged story touching on several issues of the era, including politics, religion and women’s rights, but while those issues are prominent in the story, they never overwhelm the romance between Charlotte and Finlay. The book has wonderful secondary characters, a couple of twists and turns, steamy-ish love scenes, a little suspense and a beautiful epilogue. This is the second book in the series, but it could easily be read as a stand-alone title, but if you want to know more about Finlay’s secret, I would recommend reading that book first.

Not as scandalous as the cover suggests. Slow moving. Afraid I gave up half way through. Not enough action for me of any kind.
