I’m not even quite sure WHERE to begin with Darcy’s story in The Road She Left Behind by Christine Nolfi. As an author, she manages to write these addictive and compelling stories that have you turning the pages way too late into the night until the very end. I literally couldn’t put this one down!

Darcy has been through so much in her life, and she left home 8 years ago to get away from all of the pain, and even leaves behind Michael, a man that hasn’t given up on loving her after all this time. Of course, life has other plans and brings her back when her young nephew goes missing.

The characters in the story were so well written and developed perfectly throughout the book. They had depth and were characters you really connected with and actually wanted to befriend!

I really could go on and on about this book, but will just say go read it now! You won’t be disappointed!

This one will not be forgotten. Christine Nolfi’s books are always beyond deep and heartwarming. I loved it, and plan to come back and write a proper review.

Such a moving book with lots of ups and downs. Real life situations with we all written characters. Loved this book and couldn’t put it down.

What an emotionally charged book. The characters are well developed and their story is moving. You are exposed to tragedy, loss, secrets, guilt, infidelity … a little bit of everything! Personal and sensitive matters were dealt with in a gentle and respectful manner. While a little slow at the beginning, once you get into the book, it sucks you in and you are invested in the characters and lives. A little twist of mystery adds to this book. It is a powerfully emotional read.

Darcy Goodridge left Ohio eight years ago, after her father Jack and sister Elizabeth passed way in a tragic accident. Her mother Rosalind is a difficult woman, she blamed Darcy for their deaths, and forced her to leave. The family’s housekeeper Latice, keeps in contact with Darcy, to let her know how her nephew Emerson is going and to make sure she’s alright.

Darcy moves around a lot, doesn’t stay in one place for long, and she about to move again when she receives a call from Latice. Emerson is eight, he has gone missing, Latice wants her to return home and she's very worried. Darcy and her young friend Samson Dray, make the long road trip to Ohio, and when she arrives, Rosalind isn’t happy to see her. It wasn’t easy for Darcy to go home, she’s always felt like nothing she’s ever done has made her mother proud, she’s not good enough, a failure, and she has no chance of repairing their relationship.

Rosalind doesn’t speak to her nice neighbors, Nella, Tippi and Michael Varano. Emerson’s found, Darcy tries to work out what happened to cause her mother’s resentment towards to Varano’s, and why has her mother suddenly retired from her job as a judge?

The Road She Left Behind, is a story about a dysfunctional family, Darcy discovering a decade old secret about her not so perfect father, finding closure, making peace with the past, and breaking through the wall that her mother has built around her heart. I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review, I really liked the character's of Darcy, Latice, Michael, and Emerson and four stars from me.

She has done it again and I am in love with Darcy's journey. I am a diehard fan of Christine's novels and while I have not adored everything that she has written (I don't like the huge cliffhanger from the Heavenscribe: Part Threeseries .. what happens - does he live?!) this book is phenomenal. I was impressed by the subtle way Darcy and Michael's history was woven through the entire book and much of it left to the reader's own imagination. The relationship plot twists, Darcy and her mother, Samson and Rosalind, Nella and Emerson, the list is endless. I truly thought that The Comfort of Secrets book 3 in the Sweet Lake series was the best novel but after reading this I'm convinced that Christine's writing is like a fine wine, it just keeps getting better with time and each book. The Road She Left Behind may very well be one of my all-time favorite books by any author ever.

Darcy Goodridge was devastated and consumed by guilt after a automobile accident killed her father and sister, her mother’s resentment toward her was more than she could bare. Darcy left the family estate eight years ago and she had no intention of returning until she gets an unexpected phone call concerning her missing nephew, Emerson.

Returning home to Ohio was the last place, Darcy wanted to be, but she had to find her nephew. Darcy quickly realizes there is more to Emerson’s disappearance than she first imagined. Will Emerson be found and how will Darcy deal with finding out about family secrets that have been hidden for years?

The Road She Left Behind was an intriguing story which I truly enjoyed. A well written, compelling story of family secrets, love and forgiveness.

With thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for my digital copy to read and review.

Darcy leaves home after the deaths of her father and sister. Summoned home after contacted by her estranged mother’s housekeeper, Latrice, the reasons Darcy left become clear. Reuniting with her nephew, Emerson, the story is told with depth and sincerity. The characters are sympathetic and the story captivating. Recommended. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.

It is easy to see why Christine Nolfi is one of my favourite authors. Her gift of storytelling makes it a delight to pick up one of her books and become totally captivated for hours on end.
Eight years ago Darcy Goodridge fled her family estate without looking back. Drowning in guilt over the horrifying car accident that killed her father and only sister and devastated by her mother's resentment she had to find serenity elsewhere.
An emergency phonecall concerning her young nephew has her coming home to face the dark secrets of a dysfunctional family.
"The Road She Left Behind" is a heart warming story of love and forgiveness.

The Road She Left Behind was an inspiring novel about family. Darcy fled her home town eight years ago after her father and her sister died in an accident. She never spoke to her mother again. Now, her family's housekeeper Latrice has called her to tell her that her nephew Emerson is missing. Emerson was only a few months old when his mother died and Darcy hasn't seen him since. Darcy doesn't understand why Latrice called her to help. She doesn't want to go home to help, because she doesn't want to face her mother who blamed her for the accident. And she doesn't want to see Michael who she has a long history with but hasn't talked to in eight years. Darcy ends up going home. She quickly becomes involved in some situations that she did not expect at all. Can what happened in the past be repaired enough for the family to pull together now?

This was the first book I read like this. To be honest I tend to read romance but I am trying to branch out. This was a great read. From wandering from problems, fear over a runaway boy, drama over unknown conflict, rekindling an old but never ending love, and little comic tidbits; this book could fit the taste of many different readers. It was a little slow at the start but that did not last long. Only part I did not like was the end. I felt it was a little abrupt. It almost seemed like someone said the book is get a bit long so wrap it up quick. I think one more chapter would have been all that was needed to give a better ending. Don't worry it did not end on a cliffhanger, just could have been better done. Overall I would recommend this book.

This book held more twists and turns than I was expecting! It was fabulous! If you are looking for a book to fill your weekend, you need to read this one!

Find a little forgiveness, some closure, and some good ole family drama - just enough to keep everything and everyone interested and turned upside down!

I think this is my favorite book by Christine Nolfi. She captured me from the beginning and kept me turning the pages. It is a fast moving story of family dynamics and the effects that grief, loss, lies and guilt can have a a family. Darcy left home eight years ago after tragedy befell her family. Now she is back to try to repair the relationship with her nephew, who needs her, and her cantankerous Mother. The characters are so realistic and I felt like I knew each and every one. Christine has a way of making you feel a part of her stories. I could feel the sadness and the guilt, but most of all, the love. Grief can tear a family apart, but love can put it back together. There is a lot of things going on in this book but Christine Nolfi writes with such clarity and has a special gift of writing about families and all the complexities that entails. I feel this is her best book to date and I have read all her books. She is one of my favorite authors. This book will make you mad, sad and feel love like no other. But you will feel every emotion. A wonderful book by a very gifted storyteller. I wouldn't want you to miss out on such an incredible, heartfelt book. Grab this one and be transported. Thank you Christine Nolfi for such an amazing read. 1000 stars!!
