This is my first book by Nicole Meier, and I really enjoyed the story.
I love the cover design.
Two estranged sisters reunite in an emotional novel of family, forgiveness, lost hope, and new beginnings.
Two sisters seemed to be bonded forever, until tradegy struck and they went their separate ways to cope in the own way in grief.
Julia's care takes a nasty hit and her reputation is destroyed and she is left reeling and she turns to her sister Ginny to pull herself together. Ginny, on the other hand, doesn't want drama in her life, but Julia is her sister, so she feels obliged, as long as Julia pulls her weight.
Can they work together to heal their heart from past tradegies and become true sisters again?
Loved this book and definitely will be looking for Nicole's other books.
A heartwarming story about the love and bond between sisters. Having sisters myself I really connected with the story of these two sisters with very different personalities. My sister and I are complete opposites too and have had our moments but that deep heart bond between sisters always pulls us back. This book really explored the importance of family and how much we all need them and our support system. The idea of the supper club was so charming I'd love to do something similar myself. Nicole Meier really showcases the importance of maintaining important relationships in our life amd opening out heart and sharing our feelings with those who love us.
Thanks to NetGalley, Nicole Meier and the publishing company (Lake Union) for allowing me an advanced read of this book.
This is an amazing book of second chances, sisterhood, family and the power of forgiveness and growing up. These 2 grieving sisters learn what love and forgiveness is during the time when both of them are struggling each day. I thoroughly enjoyed the heartfelt moments during the book, and the way the sisters became a family unit and were able to start to work through their issues throughout the book
This was this first book that I had read by this author, and I will be looking for more from her to read.
Absolutely loved this novel! Excellent character development, and totally keeps you wanting to find out what happens next. Highly recommended!
The Second Chance Supper Club is a well-written book. It is an excellent story of two sisters and how life can change, but there is still no better feeling than that of coming home. I loved the intermingled stories of each sister with the life experiences that they had created for themselves during a few years of being estranged from each other. This book is an excellent reminder that your family will always be there, no matter what. And while some things ended up becoming predictable by the end, it was a good, heartwarming story.
A quick easy read about family, love and food. The perfect combination and a pleasure to relax with.
Thank you to Netgalley for my copy.
A perfect beachside read. I loved the story about the sisters. It was a great read.
Many thanks to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for my ARC. All opinions are my own.
Sisters and second chances. After their parents died in a tragedy, Ginnie moved back to Arizona and Julia, a broadcaster, stayed in NY. After years of not keeping in touch, their paths finally cross again when Julia lands on Ginnie's doorstep at a much needed time for both. I loved how the author used food and hospitality to bring them together again. I love novels about families reconnecting and I highly recommend taking a bite out of this one.
Julia is a host of a network morning show who feels that her job is in jeopardy. Taking a chance on a rumour she overheard regarding the mayor of New York, she confronts the mayor who is a guest on the show without first broaching the subject with her boss. Needing to flee the city as a result of her actions, she travels to Arizona to her estranged sister Ginny and niece Olive.
Ginny is the chef behind the secret supper club - a one table dining experience she operates out of her home. The supper club has done well and has built a good reputation, but has also proven to be a financial liability for Ginny and Olive. Olive has been working for Ginny as the server for the supper club - a responsibility she doesn't want. As a result, the relationship between Ginny and Olive is anything but ideal.
When the three women work and live together under one roof, each with their own problems , the reason behind their estrangement must be confronted in order for the family to move on.
I loved the discussion of the food served, and the ambience created, in the supper club. I appreciated the relationship work that needed to be done for this family to grow and thought that this was described with compassion by the author. The story is a little predictable, but perfect for the reader wishing an easy read. I would rate this book 4 stars out of 5.
Thank you to Netgalley and Lake Union Publishing for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Every now and then I take a chance and request a book that I hope I'll enjoy. "The Second Chance Supper Club" was one of those books and I found it both entertaining and a good read. Two sisters, second chances, hope all bound together in a sweet story.
My thanks to NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
An easy and enjoyable light read about sisters, mothers and daughters and food. The author struck the right balance between the story and using food and place to enhance the flavor, if you will, rather than overwhelm it. This was a great break between some heavy reads.
A first by me from this author and I'm totally hooked! Thank you NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing for this ARC copy in exchange for my honest review! I cried as I read this story of these two sisters getting a second chance. One some of us miss. I fell in love with these sisters and rooted for them the entire time! A truly heartwarming story of forgiveness, things we take for granted and revolved family! I loved this!! I can't wait to read more from this author!
The Second Chance Supper Club is a sweet and enjoyable story about sisters. While I have read many similar stories, I always enjoy stories in which the power of sisterhood is explored. And as a trained chef, I always enjoy stories that have a food/cooking element to them. It may not be a completely unique or new story but it was heartwarming, quick, and sweet.
A reminder that there are always two sides to every story - it just depends on your perspective. Enjoyed learning about the very different lives of two sisters, who became estranged after the death of their parents. Great summer read.
I received this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This is a must a sweet story. Two sisters who have no idea how badly they need each other. Ginny is a chef that left the city life and relocated to Arizona. Julia is a n anchor or a morning show that is about to make a terrible mistake. These two women are stronger than they believe and more resilient than anything life throws at them. Very enjoyable.
3.5 stars. A very sweet read about sisters relationships and a mother daughter relationship that’s rebuilding. One sister is a chef and all the mention of delicious food will make your mouth drool! A very heart warming read that made me want to go back to visit Arizona! Thanks to Netgalley and the Publisher for the ARC.
Overall I enjoyed this book, however I found I did not particularly like the main character Julia- although I did like the sister Ginny and her teenager. Nicole Meier paints a vivid mental scene of the small town world and the big-time family issues that accompany its day to day existence. Some parts of the book were slow, however overall I thought it was a good story. Probably would not recommenced, simply as it did not have enough essence or grip me enough to prompt me to talk about it or consider it relevant in the future
This book covers family fallouts, friendship, love and the stresses of life. I could really relate to Ginny being a workaholic myself. There were some surprises along the way and I would never have predicted the ending. You’ll have to read it to find out what I mean!
This book is excellent and it has the ability to transport me to the time of the book
I was captivated from page 1 and this lasted the whole book.
Brilliant in every way
What a great book! It was an intertwined story of two women of whom pursued what they wanted and did it accordingly.
