Shana's life hasn't been easy, and she's never been quite normal, she knew that. So when her sister talks her into going out for a girl's night at a local club, she begrudgingly agrees. Little did she know that decision would change her life forever. Leon is a fallen angel, cursed to walk the Earth for eternity as a vampire. He's waited for his mate for centuries and believes that he is not destined for love and peace, until Shana turns up at his club and wreaks havoc on the dancefloor. Shana denies their bond, Leon's claims and her own heart, leaving him broken and alone. When her sisters shows up and explains the pain that Leon is experiencing, in a moment of compassion, Shana goes to him. What follows is a tale of self discovery, learning to love, and battling Lucifer himself all while they learn to love one another. Will they survive long enough to find out if it's meant to be?

I have a soft spot for Paranormal Romance books. I'm a big fan of Jeaniene Frost's Night Huntress series. It had been a while since I'd delved into a PNR so when I saw this one up for request I thought, why not give it a go. I must admit though, it left me feeling a little bit disappointed.

I want to start by saying, this story has a really awesome idea going for it. The whole fallen angels being vampires and battling Lucifer and having two hot messes as lead characters and love interests is great. I also loved where Harris went with this story, there was so much going on and majority of it was an absolutely brilliant premise for a story. What I felt let it down was the execution. This story felt incredibly rushed. One minute they're strangers, they meet at a club, then they're meant to be and each other's true love, then all this stuff happens and Shana absolutely hates Leon and his vampire brethren. THEN all of a sudden she doesn't hate him and she can't live without him and then Lucifer gets involved and THERE IS JUST SO MUCH GOING ON IN THIS BOOK THAT I NEED TO TAKE A MINUTE...
Okay, so there's a lot going on. I feel like what may have worked better for this story would have been fleshing it out a bit and maybe writing it over two books? There was enough going on in the plot that this could have been done, that's just my opinion of course. I feel like I wasn't truly able to get into the story or connect with the characters because they came across so shallow. There was no chance for the characters to develop depth, and the story just went too fast.

I can't say too much about the characters because this story only skimmed over the top of what could have been wonderfully three dimensional characters with a hell of a lot of room for growth because they're both so damn messed up. Shana annoyed me, she hated Leon because he never came for her...she never had the thought that he couldn't find her or didn't know she existed...or maybe he WAS looking for her and she was just too good at covering her tracks. She just flat out was like "You're an arsehole, and I hate you because you let me suffer". And Leon! My god I wanted to punch him in the throat at times. He came across so patronising most of the time, and how he had to save Shana and he couldn't live without her and blah blah blah. Mate, take a breath, she's survived this long on her own, cut her some slack. And the dialogue between these two characters just felt awkward and forced for me. I cringed every time a conversation started because the stuff that was coming out of their mouths was just campy and awkward and cringeworthy. The other characters I can't really say much about because we never really go to know any of them. There just wasn't enough pages in the book to be able to develop well rounded characters. Once again, this is just my opinion, and I seem to be in the minority with the ratings this book has, so I'm glad about that.

The story, as said above, had some AWESOME ideas. I loved the whole connection between the stone, the vampires, the angels, Lucifer, all of it. There was some really well thought out ideas here and I'm sad that it didn't get to live up to it's full potential because it could have been something brilliant if given the time. One thing that did kinda irk me, all the characters have blue eyes. EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. Yes, this is explained at one point in the book, but I felt like it just seemed silly, did they HAVE to all have blue eyes? And every time someone looks into "her baby blue eyes" his "icy blue eyes" literally anytime someone looks into someone else eyes it's described in this way. It's a really small detail but it just irked me so much. Once again, just my opinion, a little bit of variety would have been great. I also got pissed off at the fact that they believed some people that were important to them were in perilous, life threatening danger, yet they stop on the side of the road to have a quickie against a rock? Really? You can't keep it in your pants until you find out if the people you love are safe?? I get it's paranormal romance and majority of people buy it for the smutty sexy times, but I just feel like putting sex scenes in for the sake of sex scenes is just pointless. If it doesn't add anything to the story or help flesh out characters or scenarios, is it really needed? Also, every single time that The Burn is mentioned, it was written in italics and I just couldn't take it seriously. Another round of editing may have fixed this.

All in all, for a paranormal romance it was okay, if you want a book that has a story line with potential, but focuses more on the possessiveness of the alpha male and his soul mate with sex scenes, give it a go. It just didn't quite work for me. As said above, I appear to be in the minority in my opinion and I'm happy about that. I really wanted to love this story but it just wasn't for me.

I was excited to pick up this read. I love paranormal romance and was ready for a new one. It was a good read but I did want a bit more from it and the relationship building.

The book had potential and was interesting at first, but i could honestly not connect with the characters, plus it alt felt very rushed to me - in one moment she disliked him and wanted nothing to do with him and in the next she suddenly accsepted the burn, very quickly. I tried my hardest to like the book, i really did. But it wasn't just my cup of tea, i guess.

Leon, a fallen angel cursed to exist as a vampire, has waited for his mate for centuries when Shana shows up on his dance floor wreaking havoc with the other immortals in his club. Embittered by the deaths of her angelic parents, Shana denies Leon. She wants nothing to do with vampires, and walks away only to put both of their lives in danger. Compassion brings Shana back to Leon's side only to find him hovering close to death. Love grows until they are both encompassed by The Burn. Together they battle dark spirits and Lucifer himself, all the while falling deeper in love.
OK, so I really wanted to like this book. It started out promising. Then it took a sharp left once Leon and Shana started talking to each other. I really didn’t like them or their interactions and I felt that the book didn’t let us know either of them well enough to act the way the did. I did continue to read the book though in hopes it could get better. Plus beyond not liking their interactions I did find that I liked the author’s writing. This kind of leaves me in the middle about the book. If pieces of the story had been in a different order, this would’ve definitely been a 4.5-5. I’m hoping I like her next book better.

Sexy, steamy and hot hot hot!! I was desperately seeking a vampire novel to satisfy my cravings and The Burn absolutely delivered! Leon and Shana are likeable characters that are well written and keep the readers attention on this romantic journey. A really great read from Kristal. My first, but definitely not my last!

An enjoyable read but I felt the characters lacked true chemistry and the writer had to clearly explain their moods, rather than you know them because the characters were done well.
Interesting story but needs more from the characters

OK ,where do I start. for one the story over all was really good that's what intriguing me and kelp me reading. What I didn't get was a connection to any of the characters. It felt like a disconnect between the them and us.. I felt like I was being told oh yeah she's mad at him. Or now they love each other. I never felt any true emotions. So felt like I read a story a good one but walked anyway not really caring one was or another about them.

Hot, sexy, addicting and a fun read. What more can you want?

Leon was fun and quirky and I adored him. Shana annoyed me at times but in the end I grew to love her. The Burn took me back into my love for vampires and reminded me of my addiction to vampires from my reading 'Twilight' days. Fun twists and the vampire/angel plot is new and exciting. I want to read more from this author!
