This book contains such adorable and fun bookmarks, no one could resist making them. The instructions were clear and easy to follow and it had great images of the bookmarks to accompany them.
This book is great for book lovers that also are crafty (or want to try their hand at crafting). Bookies, by Jonas Matthies, has some wonderfully adorable bookmark patterns to crochet. While crochet experience is definitely helpful, this book does provide a tutorial on how to do each type of stitch, as well as step-by-step instructions on how to create each cute book friend. The instructions were easy to understand and while some of the bookmarks seemed more advanced than others, all seemed like they are within the realm of possibility. I can’t wait to start crafting!
Easy to read and follow instructions for making cute, useful gifts for your book club, bible class or scout troop. These book marks will have everyone asking for one. Crochet skill required is just a little more than beginner but could easily be done in less than 30 minutes.
Bookies: Bookmarks to Crochet by Jonas Matthias features 17 bookmarks to crochet. I wanted to make them all, but my favorites were the flamingo and sheep. The directions were easy to follow, and pictures/explanations of the stitches were included. I appreciated that plenty of pictures of the work in progress were included. My only issue was the specialty yarn used. It is not something that I can pick up in stores or even easily order online from major retailers. I will keep searching for a better purchase option as these are too cute not to make.
I'm always looking for new and inspiring crochet projects, and these don't disappoint. The book includes instructions for all kinds of characters, and these would definitely be pleasing for your children's reading pleasure.
For bookmark, crochet, and amigurumi fans, this book will likely be a hit. The variety of animal bookmarks range from real to imaginary: bunnies, chameleons, and horses, to unicorns. Many of the patterns can be easily adapted to turn into other creatures.
Super easy, clear instructions. I like that it's arranged by difficulty level. Very cute patterns! Love having fun things to crochet, something quirky and a little out of the ordinary. My only complaint is that I had to do some googling to find out the weight of the yarn used (it's sport/baby). I think that information should have been included in the book, since Schachenmayr Catania yarn is not as common here in the States.
Thanks to #NetGalley and #DoverPublication for given me the opportunity to review #Bookies.
I'm a crochet and love trying new and fun patterns. I've made other bookmarks, the ones in this book are so fun. The pictures are great. The directions are clear. I can see book lovers that crochet really enjoying this book.
Would love to have a copy of this book in my collections. Can't wait to tell my 'yarnie' group about this book.
This book is good for a crocheter interested in making bookmarks that resemble animals. It has cute ideas, but it will only appeal to a limited amount of crocheters
Bookies Bookmarks to Crochet by Jonas Matthies
Love that this book combines both crochet and reading, my two favorite things to do.
Book starts out with the author, about his life and passions and how he was determined to make his dreams come true.
Photos of the different bookmarks appear next and the page that contains their directions.
Basic instructions follow next with color photographs showing you how to make the items.
Every section along the way is detailed as described above.
Each pattern contains an outline to the left with notes on the colors used and where along with the size. Directions follow starting at the head and then continuing onto other body parts, showing the progress and details as you come to them.
Projects are very colorful and great details as to the animal they resemble. Think I'd not be getting too much reading done because I'll be studying the construction of the book markers.
Love how each section of the animal is highlighted with a colorful bar and white lettering. There are so many cute one I want to make them all.
Don't skip over the basic techniques section as it has a ton of useful hints and instructions on how to make the book markers using many different variations.
Materials are also discussed in detail here for ALL of the book markers. Stitches used are also shown and described how they are done.
Guide to yarns used in the book are highlighted at the end
I feel this book could be used by any level of expertise.
A KEEPER!
I received this review copy from Dover Publications via NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.

These bookmarks are gorgeous and the idea is adorable. The photos are clear and instructions explained well, from the stitches to the positioning. Meaning you can get your book marks looking exactly like the ones in the book. There are a good range of animals and if you want to make any more, I think once you have the basics you can change colours and shapes and adapt them however you want them. But it’ll take me a good while to make all the ones I want to out of this book before I have to worry about not having enough of them. I’d say ideal makes for kids, but for grown ups too! I don’t think this would be a good project book for new crocheters, but for people with a little experience and who are used to more fiddly, small hooks and yarns, they should be easy to make. Unicorn, rat and fox are going to be on the hook soon for me.
Cute easy to follow patterns, however a German yarn is used that is not readily available in stores in the US. While a color guide is provided, there is no mention of yarn weight or medium. A seasoned crocheter will be able to interpret, but not a newbie
This is a great pattern book for all crochers. It is well illustrated, great instructions and easy to understand. All levels of crochet fanatics will enjoy this volume and it's patterns are perfect for using leftover yarn in your scrap drawer. A perfect gift for beginners who love to read. There are 17 projects to choose from and they are quick to make. You can give as a gift or keep them for yourself and have one from every book in your TBR pile. I received a copy of this ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.
An adorable book of wonderful animal bookmarks to crochet. Sixteen cute animals from frogs and sloths to rats and cats, there's even a dragon! Each is featured with step by step instructions and photographs that are easy to follow. The bookmarks are made with colorful cotton thread with a little bit of stuffing for the heads. There are basic crochet instructions as well as the individual assembly instructions. The book is well planned and well presented. I really enjoyed this and look forward to making some of these creations.
