This book makes me wonder what to think of it still. Yes, it has loads of recipes for the instant pot. Yes, you could find a recipe for every situation being a soup, dinner or ... Yes, this will save people a lot of time with food. Yes, this book has a lot of instructions. I do however miss pictures in it, the whole book is blend without them and so the book gets 3 points. This book was giving to me by Netgalley for a honest review.
I love my instant pot and love the idea of cooking straight from the freezer. It makes everything so much easier! This book has so many recipes and they are easy to follow. My only complaint is that there are no photos. It might just be me, but my favorite part of reading cookbooks is looking at and drooling over the yummy pictures. If there were photos, than I would have given this 5 stars.
I was hoping for more recipes in this book. I wasn't all that impressed by most of the recipes inclided but I love the idea of freezer meals for the Instantpot and would pribably still try these recioes to give this method of cooking a try. I was disappointed there werent a wide array of recipe categories. I hope to see a more extended version in the future.
This looks like a great new Instant Pot cookbook. I own the author’s previous title The Instant Pot Bible, but this looks more practical for my life. I’ve already recommended this to my Instant Pot group on Facebook and can’t wait to try out some of the recipes. I’ll be buying a hard copy as well when it comes out in a few weeks.
If all you read were the first two chapters of recipes, you would think this book was one of those cookbooks that figure you can make anything in the appliances used. I felt as if they went through the frozen food aisle * picked out everything they thought might work & devised recipes.
But struggle on until you get to the chapters on different kinds of meat. Most these recipes look great.
There are three features that make this book very useful. Each recipe highlights the Instant Pot steps in a chart. This makes them both consistent and easy to find. Each chapter has a "beyond" section at the end with ideas for changes. Finally several recipes in each chapter are called road maps. These recipes give you many options for ingredients and more detailed instructions.
It's a useful book.
This is a great book from fans of slow-cooker cooking. I find I always have plenty of questions about slow-cookers, i.e. can I cook meat from frozen; how can I thicken up a sauce; how can I bulk up a meal. This book answers EVERYTHING! Everything I could possibly need to know about slow-cooking. Brilliant!
A good book for convenient cooking in your pressure cooker straight from the freezer. In order to understand this book you must read the introduction. The book is not set out like other books so you need to understand the various charts before you commence cooking.
The recipes are ok. I've tried a few with reasonable results. The simple Steamed Salmon was good and useful as I prefer to freeze salmon when it fresh as it tends not to last long in the fridge. The Chicken, Rice and Mushroom Casserole was also quite nice. I didnt fancy many other recipes in this book maybe that is due to the lack of pictures in the digital copy I received.
There however many good tips for general use of the pressure cooked so it would be a useful book for those just starting out with pressure cooking.
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for an advance copy of this title in exchange for an unbiased review.
Great book for the reason I got an Instant Pot - the ability to take a hunk of frozen meat and have dinner fairly quickly. The recipes are NOT dump and cook - only the meat and possibly veggies are frozen, the liquids, seasonings, and other ingredients are to be room temp and added at start time. All the recipes are for a main dishes, and are written to work in 6 and 8 quart Instant Pots and the Max version. There is an extensive chart showing cooking time and liquid amounts for tons of different cuts of frozen meat, if you want to make up your own recipe. The book recipe chapters are soups, pasta, chicken and turkey, pork, beef, and fish/shellfish. Variety of flavors and many familiar recipes. Clear instructions with variations and hints listed on each in a "beyond" box. I wish there were photos, there were none in the version my review is based on. I do not recommend this book for vegetarians, as the recipes almost all have meat as the focus or an important ingredient.
I received an ebook ARC in exchange for an honest review.
From Freezer to Instant Pot by Bruce Weinstein and Mark Scarbrough presents a different take on how to quickly prepare meals using your Instant Pot. The recipes typically use frozen meat, poultry or seafood to prepare the dish. No need to thaw the protein as it goes into the Instant Pot along with the needed ingredients to complete the dish.
Recipes using ground meat or poultry typically require the cook to break the cooked meat once the dish is done or close to being done. I am not a great fan of this method as it can be a bit time consuming to use a cooking implement such as a fork to break up the cooked meat. Also, you do have to deal with hot liquid of some sort when breaking up the meat which makes the final preparations a bit difficult.
The chicken and seafood recipes are pretty straightforward and if I recall none of the recipes required breaking up the either with a fork.
The highlights of their cookbook include detailed instructions on how to prepare a recipe, cooking tips to add a bit of something special to complete the dish, and the friendly information recipe introductions.
Some of the recipes you'll find include:
Bean Soup
Boneless Skinless Chicken Breasts
Game Hens with Butter Sauce
Braised Turkey Breast
Burgers
Unstuffed Cabbage
Recommend.

Lots of great ideas and super helpful techniques for how to use frozen ingredients for a variety of recipes, from soups to pasta dishes that I didn't even realize could be made in the Instant Pot. The authors did so much troubleshooting to ensure that things don't end up overly watery or any other potential trouble areas. Perfect!
My husband is our cook, but after reading FROM FREEZER TO INSTANT POT, I’ll be able to share kitchen duties from now on. Because I’ve found 75 delicious recipes for easy-to-make wonderful meals concocted from fixings tossed from freezer to an Instant Pot. And what goodness: Butternut Squash (my fave), Sweet-and-Sour Shrimp (yum), Ziti with Sausage (yes!), and so much more. Recipes include timings and ingredients and cover everything from braises to roasts to stews plus healthy sides ... all fabulous! 5/5
