Kids Write Jokes is not a book for an adult with. no memory of telling jokes as a kid or one who has no contact with young children. Most of the jokes seem ridiculous, but just picturing a child telling these jokes with a pleased expression on his/her face makes me appreciate them.
I was expecting to find this book funny but it was even better than I expected; I laughed out loud the whole way through. The jokes were total nonsense, but also hilarious. I would recommend it to anyone who works with kids or has young relatives.
A very cute little book of jokes. Gets into the mind of a little kid. If I taught elementary school, I would definitely stock this book. It made me chuckle quite a few times.
This is definately not the type of book I read. But my 4 year old niece recently asked me to tell her a joke and I could not come up with one that she would get. I will be remembering these jokes in hopes that she will also find them funny. The audience is really specific on this book though as most adults wouldn't find this book all that funny and read it in one sitting.
Back in my high school tumblr days, I came upon a blog called badkidsjokes.tumblr.com. I don’t know if I was loopy from the late nights studying for AP tests, from scrolling through endless gifsets of One Direction, or from sleep deprivation, but I thought these “jokes” were the funniest things in the world. I would laugh and laugh until I couldn’t breathe. My mom had to come check on me to make sure I was okay. I wanted to share the joy with someone else, so I screenshotted a dozen of these jokes and posted them on my sister’s Facebook wall (she was out of the house in college). I was still cracking up as I pressed “post.” The next morning, I logged onto my Facebook to find - at best - a lukewarm reaction from her. I was so shocked! We usually had the same exact sense of humor! I asked her and she said, “Yeah, I thought they were kinda funny.”
A week later, she texted me saying, “I changed my mind. These are the most hilarious things in the world.”
So basically - these kids “jokes” are for you on the rainy day when you’re in the kind of slap-happy mood where everything is funny, especially the things that don’t make sense. Get this for your mom friends who are at their wits’ end. Get this for your friend in med school who’s ready to pass out from exhaustion. Get this for your friend who works the boring 9-to-5 desk job at a call center. One day they will open this up and have the kind of uncontrollable laughter that feels like an ab workout.
Featuring such gems as “Knock knock. Who’s there? Fancy. Fancy who? Fancy lady, bye I have to go and shop I need more hats,” and “guess how many snakes there are? 13” this book is not funny on most days, but the funniest thing you’ve ever read on the days you need it the most. And what more can you ask from a book of jokes written by kids?
I've enjoyed the Kids Write Jokes accounts on Twitter & Instagram. I enjoy sharing them with a coworker who doesn't "get" them even more.
I've always enjoyed children's ideas of jokes - basically thinking a punchline is just something weird, silly or nonsensical. It's sincerely refreshing to see dozens of children sharing things they think are funny despite having no actual "joke" involved. It speaks to an innocence that I sometimes wish I could return to...but I'm content with living vicariously through knock knock jokes that make zero sense, oddly structured jokes that are more thought-provoking than you'd think, or jokes that ALMOST work but the kid got confused on how punchlines work.
Very enjoyable & quick read, despite reading a few out loud to my wife who just gave me blank looks.. My coworker will definitely be getting a copy for his birthday.
Loved this book. It’s not out for a while so posting initial feedback here, will update nearer the time with full review and blog links. Really enjoyed it though!
Honestly, I feel like a lot of these were funny (and I use funny loosely) because they literally made no sense and were ridiculous. The innocence of kids is priceless and you can’t critique they’re creativity. I like that the author left them untouched and unedited, because why filter a childs imagination? Thats just wrong. It was colourful and there was even some art to go along with the weird quirkiness (chicken wearing monkey pants). That being said, I’m not sure there was actually one joke that made sense… “the lady went down to the bottom of a mountain” or “why did Tom and Jerry get married? Because tom was a boy and jerry was a boy and they were strong as a toilet.” I’m not really sure who this would appeal to, because I don’t think little kids would understand, I don’t even understand!
