Perfect historical romance. Low drama and a great read. Perfect character development. Great way to spend a few hours.

This was a huge amount of fun! It's not a particularly deep, emotional read, but the plot rollicks along and both hero and heroine are likeable. I have a real soft spot for characters who fall in love with both a person and that person's alter ego without knowing them to be the same, so this ticked that box for me! I'll be interested to read the others in the series after this one, as it was really enjoyable.

I received this from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This is book 2 in the Rake’s series. We have Stephen who is asked to help Caroline avoid an unwanted fiancé. I enjoyed the story a great deal but I did not like the ending to was awful. It was way to rushed.

After being abandoned by her almost-betrothed, Caroline Nash vows to never again get involved with a man. Especially not the middle-aged earl her father has chosen for her. The man is a pompous ass and one of Prinny’s set who only wants her for her dowry. To complicate matters, a kiss from the Midnight Marauder unleashes an unbelievable passion that Caroline can’t seem to forget.
This was a great story with great characters. I really liked the plot and loved the characters as they move through the story towards their HEA. I highly recommend.

I liked the heroine but felt that the hero was underdeveloped. Also, the story ended rather abruptly.

Many thanks to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for my ARC. All opinions are my own.

I liked the main character, Caroline Nash. She was a strong female that held her own against a father that was trying to make her wed an Earl that she wasn't interested in. This story did not move fast enough for me. I felt like I was on a merry go round and I was waiting to get off. When the story ended, it was wrapped up very quickly.
Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and author for this ARC.

This was an ok read, a regency romance with a maritime setting, with a independent heroine, Caroline Nash who has been unlucky in love, and has been gossiped about since she was jilted by a Duke. She is held up by a highwayman called the Masked Maurader, who steals a kiss in lieu of valuables. Unknown to her this is Stephan Marquis of Kendrick, Who becomes fascinated with Caroline and the chemistry between them. Caroline is promised in marriage to a pompous older man by her father, against her will. ‘Tisdale is, unbeknownst to her, desperate for her dowry and also involved in some shady dealings with smugglers. Stephan agrees to court Caroline as well, to put Tisdale off, and he discovers that he is up to something shady. Will Stephan be able to expose him, and will Caroline realise that he is really courting her.

The book felt a little laboured at the beginning and I struggled to get into it, there was a little too much will they, won’t they between Caroline and Stephan, and Caroline as a character felt very indecisive and almost passive initially.. it did pick up about halfway through and got a bit more gripping, once Stephan and Caroline got closer together.

I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

I dont think that I have ever read from this author and I am glad that I did, I enjoyed this book and I intend on the reading the first book. We have Caroline who was jilted by an ex and she swore should would not get involved with another man, especially not the old man that her father has picked for her, he was horrid. She ends up getting kissed by the Midnight Maurader who has woken up a passion she didn't know she had. This maurader is Stephan the Marquis of Kendrick and after that kiss he intends on finding her and when he does everything changes..Grab a copy and Enjoy!

I really liked this steamy historical read. Caroline was abandoned by the man she planned to marry and now her father wants her to marry for a title instead of love. Stephen is the Midnight Marauder and enjoys stealing kisses from the debutantes. When he and Caroline kiss, sparks fly. He wants more and is happy to help her out of marrying the Earl. Great characters and steamy chemistry with a fun and entertaining read. I really liked it.

Caroline Nash has no interest in marrying the man her father has chosen for her. He is nearly twice her age and disgusting. Unfortunately, she has no choice but to court him due to the fact that Prinny gave his permission for the match. Caroline soon finds an alternative to her problem, she must find another suitor and quickly.

Stephan, the Marquis of Kendrick, is happy to do pose as Caroline's suitor. He has been intrigued with Caroline ever since he met her under his guise of the "Midnight Marauder," a highwaymen who steals from the rich. Stephan wants to win Caroline for himself. But, will Caroline want more?!

Author Cynthia Breeding is newer-to-me, but is quickly becoming a favorite of mine. Her characters are larger than life and just feel so relatable, especially in her latest novel, A RAKE'S REVENGE. I loved the main characters, Caroline and Stephan. They are absolutely perfect for one another. It takes Caroline a little bit to come to terms with Stephan's secrets, but it is all worth it in the end. I can't wait to read more about Brice and a few other side characters. I give A RAKE'S REVENGE 4 stars!

A Rake' Revenge was my first book by Cynthia Breeding and I really liked it. I loved Caroline and Stephan, although I would have loved more interaction between the two in the beginning. But overall a great story I really liked.

This is another new author to me and I am excited to see what/ who else she has in store for us! This book has everything fun; an independent leading lady, pirates, a masked bandit who steals as many kisses as riches, an estranged Marquis, an unwanted betrothal, and a crazy scheme to get out of it. This book was a total run read and I loved every minute of it from page 1 to the last period. I really hope to read many more stories from this author in the near future.
Caroline Nash is completely resigned to living life “on the shelf” especially after being jilted by her ex- betrothed, that is until her father calls in a favor of the Prince Regent and she finds herself almost betrothed to the Earl of Tisdale a man much her senior. In a desperate attempt to thwart her betrothed, her father and her Prince’s plans for her she finds herself begging a favor from a friend of a friend. Will the favor work to her benefit or will she lose everything in her marriage to the dastardly Earl of Tisdale?
Stephan Stoddard, Marquis of Kendrick, is quite content with his life as a pirate and the Midnight Marauder, taking from the snobs of the ton and giving to the poor. So what’s to stop him from having a little fun with the debutants of London, by stealing their kisses, while he’s at it? An eventful run in and the attempt to save Caroline Nash from a doomed marriage might just change his life as he knows it.

Caroline Nash was determined to stay away from men, but if her father had his wish she will marry the dispicable older earl he has chosen for her. As often the case he only wants her dowry. Desperate she begins to beg a friend to pretend to be interested in her. But as Stephan, the Marquess of Kendrick overhears, he steps in to take the role which will hopefully turn real!
A wonderful story of hidden secrets that could come to life and ruin Stephen's chance and of love when least expected. Truly enjoyed this story so much and would highly recommend!

Now I want to go sailing...with Stephan:) This was a wonderful book to read and I loved all the characters....except for the detestable earl that Caroline's father betrothed her to!

Stephan, the Marquis of Kendrick, is the Midnight Marauder, as well as a pirate, but it's all for a good reason! Caroline Nash is being forced by her father to marry an abhorrent earl, no matter how many times she says NO. Invited to the Prince Regent's 3 week house party, it's a good thing Stephan comes to her rescue!! It was quite humorous to watch her two suitors try to outdo each other. I also enjoyed the Regatta sailing race and learning more about sailing!

I was given a free copy of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

A Rake's Revenge by Cynthia Breeding is book Two in the Rake Trilogy Series. This is the story of Stephan, the Marquis of Kendrick and Caroline Nash. I have read (and Loved) the previous book, but feel you can make this a standalone book if you wish to do so.
Stephan is out to avenge his mother's death and has taken to pretending to be the bandit Midnight Marauder. On one of his escapades he meets the fiery Ms. Nash. Caroline had a narrow miss on getting married but her father is working to set her up with a older man that she does not wish to be with. Stephan has a new mission to get to know Caroline more. Stephan gets invited to the Prince Regent’s house party where he overhears Caroline trying to talk someone into being in a pretend relationship with her. Of course Stephan steps forward to offer his services but he doesn't want to pretend anything.
Loved Ms. Breeding writing and this book.
