I had a hard time getting into this one. I don’t really know what made it so hard for me to connect with it. Overall, I just had a hard time really clicking with any of the characters. They weren’t necessarily unlikable; I just didn’t really care about what happened to them.
This was also another example of the problem I have had with so many books lately in that the storyline flowed and went well and then the ending just spun out of nowhere and I was like what the crap? And it’s over when it really needed about 20-50 more pages. This seems to be happening with authors more often and I don’t really understand it. Do they just get tired of writing and say oh well, I’ll just end it here?! Books need solid endings people! Stop giving us these thirty second and done endings that come from nowhere! Finish out your thought process more smoothly please!
This book was okay. It is slow to start and none of the characters were particularly adorable and I can live with this, except that there is very little suspense in this story. That was a disappointment.
WOW The Last to DIe by Kelly Garrett was so entertaining that I couldn't put this one down. I haven't read a story like this in a long time and I have to say it had me at the edge of my seat great book.
This was a fine debut but not particularly original or heart-stopping. I was disappointed in a lot of the misogynistic language in the beginning and I'll be honest I had to force myself to continue. I don't think we should encourage that especially if this is geared towards teens, Saying that drinking makes a teen aged girl easy isn't a nice message.
The protagonist sucked point blank. She was crude to the point of being flat out unlikable and made me not care about the story line altogether. There were some really great suspenseful parts however and that was its saving point along with the quick read.
A fun mystery with a solid twist at the end, reminiscent of And Then There Were None. Teens will definitely like it!
I received an ARC from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. (Thank you!)
The mystery was very predictable, but it was still entertaining enough, watching it unfold. There was great potential with the story, but I didn't enjoy the bland characters or their unrealistic actions and decisions. It was lacking great depth. I could not even find a single connection to the main protagonist. I did really like how the story never dragged on. Overall, I wasn't very impressed by anything in this novel, it lacked everything from beginning to end.
This is a passable book.
The synopsis is what intrigued me about The Last To Die by Kelly Garrett. The story fell a bit flat, however, as I was hoping for more of a suspenseful murder mystery. I did like the younger sister, Maggie, but had a hard time connecting or liking the other characters. They seemed shallow, and their behaviors were irritating, especially Alex (which I know is typical of some teenagers). I know it’s intended to be their character development, but their actions and behaviors were a bit much.
I did like that the ending was a surprise and didn’t get wrapped up in a neat bow.
The book was a quick read with a good, surprise ending, and for that, I rated it higher (3.5 star rounded to 4).
Thank you to NetGalley and Sourcebooks for the opportunity to read and review the E-Arc copy of The Last to Die.
I found myself reading this one in two sittings. It is a quick, read about a group of rich arrogant teens that don't understand how fortunate they are in the beginning of the book. The suspense and mystery that unfolds will have teens turning the page late into the night. It does have some issues that older teens will relate to such as mental illness, suicide, and theft. The narrator doesn't leave you with much empathy for her, but I think that is why teens will enjoy this one.
