This is a fast moving book with murders and robberies involving Sukey Reynolds . She is mistaken for an undercover policewoman which puts her and her son in danger. This book covers many twists and has a few surprises.
Very enjoyable mystery with a depth of mystery spanning continents. Great read.
Death at Beacon cottage
The 3rd in the series featuring police scene of crime officer Sukey Reynolds. There have been a rash of thefts of valuable objects and the police have a suspect, Miguel “Roddy” Rodriguez, but no evidence on him. A policewomen, Nina has been assigned to develop a relationship with the prime suspect in order to gather information that will lead to his arrest. In a most unprofessional manner, the policewoman and her suspect fall in love with each other. Nina has an uncanny resemblance to Sukey, which puts Sukey’s life in danger as Roddy’s accomplices want her dead.
Another good story with less emphasis on the location and more on the characters.
Thank you to netgalley and Bookouture for an electronic arc. I recommend this series.
Another riveting story from Betty Rowlands, loving the Sukey Reynolds mysteries almost as much as I loved the Melissa Craig ones...
A case of mistaken identity puts Sukey in grave danger but can Jim save the day?
Called to the scene of yet another burglary at a manor well-stocked with expensive art, Sukey finds herself a target when a suspect recognises her but calls her a different name.
While Sukey suspects she's being followed, a spate of local murders have the police baffled. Are they connected? And is Sukey (or her double) the key?
The third installment of the Sukey Reynolds story. This one deals with art thefts, and a case of mistaken identity, where the killers think Sukey is someone else. I liked this one, but the creepy drug cartel background left an oily feel to this book, that seemed out of place on the cozy mystery genre. Otherwise, a hard book to put down, and naturally her and Castle are getting more and more close, which is fun to read about. Would recommend, as more is learned about the characters, but not my favorite of the three so far.
As I had not read the first book of this series, I was impressed that I could understand the characters and their personalities. The main character, Sukey Reynolds, works for the police as a crime tech. She is smart, observant, and likable. The author gives us insight into her character, but also the criminal who she is pursuing. I found this part interesting as even though he was the planner behind the robberies, he did not want any violence to happen. "Get in, rob the place, and get out" was his motto. The characters were well-developed and believable. I really enjoyed this mystery and would recommend this book to all.
Scene of Crime officer Sukey Reynolds is looking forward to a quiet weekend gardening at home, when she gets a call that there has been a break-in at a local manor house. Once she begins to gather evidence, Sukey realises that this is the latest in a spate of well-crafted burglaries in the Cotswolds. Someone is targeting expensive houses with valuable art collections.
A person of interest arrives at the police to give his finger prints & whilst there he suddenly catches a glimpse of Sukey, turns deathly pale and calls out to her, calling her Pepita. Sukey is sure she has never met this man before. The police are baffled by a spate of local murders. With the body count rising, and the police unsure of where to turn, is Sukey herself a clue in this strange case?
This is the third book in the series, it could easily be read on its own. Another well written book with well portrayed characters. The pace is good & takes us outside of Gloucestershire to South America, Sukey of course is in the thick of it & helps DI Castle as his sounding board over home cooked meals helped by the lovely Fergus. Whilst I was once again engrossed in the book I found the ending to be a little rushed, I also felt very sorry for Nina & Roddy
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
I loved this book and would highly recommend it to all. It has a great story line, brilliant main characters and is a real page turner. I couldn't put this book down.
Another great read! I love this series of novels with their emphasis on police work and the clues to keep the reader guessing!! easy enjoyable read- I’ll be reading more by this author!
4 stars
A break-in and the theft of valuable works of art open this the latest in the Sukey Reynolds series. She is a police photographer. This is not an isolated burglary. Several expensive homes have been burglarized with similar items stolen. State of the art security systems have been bypassed.
Of course Sukey is drawn into the case. Her boyfriend DI Castle believes he knows who is responsible. Her son Fergus (Gus) is fascinated by his mother's latest foray into crime.
When Sukey was leaving the station one day, a man she does not know is very startled to see her. Sukey shrugs it off. But the encounter sets in motion a series of events that ultimately puts Sukey's life in danger.
This book is well written with Betty Rowlands' trademark multi-layered plotting. It is a fast read and enjoyable.
I want to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for forwarding to me a copy of this delightful book for me to read, enjoy and review.
I received a free copy of DEATH AT BEACON COTTAGE (Book 3 of the Sukey Reynolds Mysteries) by Betty Rowlands in exchange for an honest review. Law enforcement’s investigating a series of high-end art thefts. The primary suspect goes missing after seeing police photographer Sukey Reynolds and reacting with shock that she’s associated with the police. When the suspected co-conspirators are found murdered, the case becomes more serious. Police have reason to believe Sukey’s in danger of meeting the same fate as the co-conspirators. Can officers catch the killer before Sukey’s life is stolen away?
The books continue to improve. I liked this one better than the first two. Life is getting dangerous. No matter how much Sukey minds her own business, she keeps getting thrown into the path of danger.
