Woah! If I can give you one bit of advice before starting this book, it would be to make sure you have time set aside to read it, as believe me, once you pick it up you will NOT want to put it down!

I started this just before going to bed. Huge Mistake! The shocking start to the story had me hooked and with each chapter, I was left desperate for more. This is one of those books that I devoured as I was enjoying it so much.

I don’t want to say to much about the story as the less you know the better, it does make you question though how well you truly know your friends. The events that happen after a simple get together were shocking yet oh so addictive. I had to keep reminding myself to breath as I was so absorbed by what I was reading. The suspense and tension that the author creates as we get further into the story was electrifying.

The Dinner Party is a story that will definitely get the adrenaline going and I could feel my heart racing by the end. It is pure nail biting, edge of your seat reading at it’s finest. Psychological thriller fans are soooo going to love this book. I sure did. Brilliant!

This was a hoot to read. I mean not laugh out lout funny, but the story itself was fun. The description of the book reminded me a updated version of Clue but where everyone knows everyone. It sort of was. A group of friends get together for a dinner party but an "innocent" game about trust exposes dark secrets which results in two of them dying.

Was it the best thriller ever? Nope. Was the ending satsifying? Meh, not really. Was it a quick read? Yes.

This was a rollercoaster of a story! Fast paced and full of twists and turns. I was desperate to know what was going on and how it all fitted together, I couldn’t stop reading! I only marked it down by a star as the ending felt a little implausible. I can’t wait for the next book by R.J.Parker.

What a fantastic book a dinner party between 'friends' sets of a chain of events that lead you are as a reader down one twisty path after another.
The ending is superb and you really do not see it coming and the characters show how you can trust no one event those you think are your friends.

Excellent read and thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

8 friends gather for a dinner party. What started as a fun night leads to a potentially sinister game and 2 deaths. Each of them have a secret and each want to be forgiven. 1 of them seems to know it all and is ready to kill for it.

This was a thrilling read. While I found it a little over the top, it was definitely a page turner. It was pretty disturbing and had me guessing the entire time. I did not predict any of the twists, although I was still a little confused by the end. I was hoping for a bit more and a more intricate web of deception.

Overall, this did not disappoint and is a great pick for a quick and thrilling read.

Eight friends have a dinner and play a game writing down a personal secret. One of them is a killer.
I never really “saw” the characters. I’m sorry to say the twists and turns lost me. I will say it had a good ending.

Wow what a messed up read of a book this is. A game of trust takes place at a dinner party and sets off a chain of events that no one could predict. This book just kept tripping from one awful secret to the next and showed how little we know about our friends and love ones. Who can you you trust when even your wife seems to be keeping something from you? This book does not disappoint!!!

Thank you Net Galley for my ARC. This book was definitely full of twists and turns and I wasn't sure what was going to happen until the very end. Starts off with a get together for dinner of friends and the night ends with a trust game that leaves everyone feeling uneasy. Starts with murder and ends with murder. Literally finished this in one day because I wanted to keep reading to figure out what happens.

I understand the appeal of this book. A dinner party. A trust game. Life going awry. And then two guests end up dead. What secrets were they keeping? And who can you really trust? Sounds awesome. But I just did not believe it. The characters were poorly written, to the point that it was laughable. The plot could have been good but so much was happening it was hard to keep track or who and where everyone was.
This book was really just not good.

Eight Friends, eight secrets and one killer. A group of old friends gather for a dinner party in a quiet suburban neighbourhood. They are expecting a fun evening of wine, food and pleasant company, but then they start to play a game. It’s all about trust and dark secrets, it tests the marriages to it limits and none of them can imagine the consequences.

I wasn’t really sure what to expect out of this novel, but man I was pleasantly surprised by how much I loved this one. It starts right off with a bang and it was a page turner right away. I loved the pace and the characters; they were all so different and had different relationships. I flew through this one because I needed to know who was going through with the killings and I suspected each and every character throughout this novel and was pleasantly surprised by how the ending came together.

Out October 18th!

I really liked the cover. It is very appealing designed. The writing style is pleasant and very fluently to read. The characters are very well described and look well thought out and consistently interesting. The tension is always present. The descriptions of surroundings, feelings and scenes were also very good. The story is told pleasant and it succeeds from the first pages to dive directly into the story. The storyline as a whole is very coherent and it seems very understandable and authentic. A very fascinating story that you won't like to stop reading.

I read the premise of this book and was hooked. I have to admit the book didn't go as I expected. The dinner party itself was tense and dripping with mistrust and I loved it. The middle of the book was a bit mucky. It kind of went all over the place and was a bit hard to follow at times, but I think the ending redeemed it. Even though this wasn't what I expected it was a great thriller and lots of fun to read. I think with a bit of tweaking it would make a really fun movie. Who can you trust? Can you trust your friends, or even your own spouse. What secrets are they keeping. All I can tell you without giving too much away is, I sure wouldn't want to play the trust game at a dinner party!

This looked so promising but ended up disappointing me. 2.5 stars.

I loved the promise of this book. A dinner party between friends where a game of trust is played, and the friends start turning up dead... sounds exciting and like it would have an amazing twist, right?

Unfortunately, the ending of this book and the twists just weren't done well. The characters were literally ALL unlikeable and I found myself not even caring what happened to any of them. To top it off, the 'twist' was really bad. I was hoping for it to work out in a spectacular way and it really could have but it was seriously anti-climactic and just... blah.

Such a shame. I would read other books from this author - I noticed he writes mostly true crime though, and I only read fiction.

Would recommend for: I would not recommend this book, but would love to hear your recommendations for books where the characters play a deadly game - I love the concept.

The premise of The Dinner Party grabbed my attention right away- four couples with a lot of secrets play a mysterious game that ends with one of them a killer. Sounds intriguing, right?

The first part set-up a promising story and I was excited to read more and see what each person's secret was and how it would impact their relationships. Unfortunately, after the beginning, the plot got messy and I found the ending unbelievable and unsatisfying. Great build-up (secrets, lies, a whodunit!), but for me, the book did not deliver on the thrills and excitement.

This book was all over the place, making it hard to keep up or even care about what happened to the characters. The first few chapters were interesting enough to get my attention. After the actual dinner party, though, the whole story just went downhill. I was especially disappointed with the ending. I'm okay with far-fetched, but the ending just didn't even make sense.

This was a fun little book.

It’s not life changing, but it’s extremely entertaining.

I really wasn’t sure at first, but as soon as they played a little dinner party game (a game that no couple should ever, ever play!), I was in.

Some of the reasons behind everything were a touch unbelievable, but it’s a popcorn book and I kept munching that popcorn until the end.

I enjoyed this read and would happily try something else by our author!

The premise of this book is good. Couples at a dinner party where secrets come out? It's like that scene in Doctor Foster! There's lots to spill out and then there's even worse to come...

I didn't like anyone in the story and didn't even like the child who seemed well advanced beyond his years and very annoying with his whining. The other characters were all adults yet made some really odd decisions. The dinner party tension and aftermath was very good but the novel went places I didn't care for. This is purely my opinion though and others might disagree!

There was one thing which really jarred with me and that was the way the chapters were divided up into strange sections with no cliff hanger or ending. The next chapter was just the next sentence (at least this is how it seemed ) and this book could have really been good with cliff hanger endings.

Not for me but I will still read the other books of this author.

As mentioned by other reviewers, this book started out well, the description of the dinner party guests was good, I could imagine them easily, and the taut feelings caused by the party game introduced us to tensions within the marriages of the four couples. Once the two bodies were found it came to a bit of a stand still and I lost interest for a while. It really needed to keep the pace going at the same level as the beginning of the book.. Somehow Ted came across as a much older man in his general demeanor rather than someone in his mid thirties, I saw him as a sort of youngish Father Christmas character with a grey beard and glasses which I know would be completely wrong. I'm not sure a Norwegian man would let himself go to seed in the way it seemed Jakob had. I did worry that little Georgie would disappear in the park while playing football. He was portrayed as someone a lot older than six, a child of that age would not have such a grown up vocabulary, despite the mentions of him picking up adult phrases. His reasoning was more like a ten year old, so this was unfortunately way off.
