I’m not sure what to think of about this story. I liked parts of it but thought other bits were totally unbelievable. The plot idea though was good and kept me reading.
Thank you to Netgalley for my copy.
3 Stars
This book was really good until the last 2 chapters and then it sort of went off the rails. I really sympathized with the main character until then. She needed therapy no doubt, but was still likable. This book would have been a solid 4 stars if not for how it was wrapped up. I had to suspend all belief and even then nope. Oh well better luck next time Carissa!
Just not sure what to think about this book. For the most part I was really enjoying the story even though I thought the plot was a bit of a stretch. The last part of the story just completely failed for me. I’m not sure what happened but it didn’t make too much sense to me.
Twisty creepy shocking could not put down an ending that shocked. My type of book tense multilayered characters come alive. #netgalley#harper Impulsekillerreads.
This was an interesting story, the ending hit me like a truck! Not what I was expecting at all. It was well written, I was fully immersed in the mystery of Valerie and wanted to know the truth of everything.
Like, Follow, Kill is a dark and twisted read. From beginning to end, I was captivated and needed to know what would happen next. I did not put this down once! Who needs sleep? The story is chilling and at times disturbing. LOVED it! Totally my kind of read. These characters are well written and helped give life to the story. This is the first book I’ve read by this author and it won’t be my last. I give this 5 stars.
A fast-paced, creepy thriller with an unreliable narrator and a solid twist at the end. I found myself able to put this down, but I always came back to it, as I was invested in the Camilla-Valerie story. A bit implausible, but still enjoyable.
Thank you Netgalley, Harper Impulse and Killer Reads and Carissa Ann Lynch for allowing me to read this advance copy in exchange for an honest review.
Camilla is a pill popping drunk who killed her husband in a car accident which also left her with horrific scars and lasting pains. As a result of the trauma, she has essentially become a recluse and her only communication is via social media. She has basically shut her only relative, a sister out of her life even though her sister insists on trying to help her.
Camilla found a old friend from her high school days and becomes a dedicated follower. Things become chaotic and dangerous when she becomes obsessed with Valerie and worries when she doesn't hear from her daily.
The writing style is like a crazy ride through Camilla's mind and views. Due to the trauma she suffered it triggered several mental illnesses. She has a hard time deciphering reality from illusion or memories. Mix that with alcohol and pain medication and it's a good formula for a book that kept me interested.
I was excited to read this because I loved Without A Trace. Unfortunately, I didn't feel the same way about this book. Camilla definitely needed help. There were the prescribed drugs, the alcohol, the horrendous accident and the mental issues. I don't understand why she never called the the police???? I have no words for Valerie. She's just as messed up as Camilla. Who would go to that extent just for some internet likes??? I hated all the characters. Lincoln was the only decent person and look how he got rewarded for being such a nice person!!! The ending , UGGGGHHHHH!! Why???? How did Camilla think she was going to pull it off? I definitely wasn't expecting what happened, but I could say the same thing about the whole entire book. Throughout the whole book, Camilla is mourning her husband. I figured they had some epic love story, now I'm questioning if they even liked each other.
I say give the book a try, you might feel differently than me. I do look forward to reading more books by the author.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Harper Impulse and Killer Reads through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
This is a very modern mystery about the perils of social media and online safety. The story is a little unrealistic perhaps but it is an engrossing and entertaining read that draws you in, and the ending is quite a surprise.
There is no denying that the cover is eyecatching, and there was just something about the blurb as well that made me want to read Like Follow Kill instantly. Between the whole social media angle and that stalker vibe, it really sounded like we would be in for a treat… I appreciate the fact that the blurb only gives you minimum facts about the story, leaving lots of surprises and plot twists for you in store to discover along the way. I will keep my review short for the same reasons, as I don’t want to spoil the fun, but what I can say is that it would probably be wise not to trust any of the characters and prepare yourself for some very shocking twists. This story takes unreliable narrator to the next level!
This story basically revolves about two characters: Camilla and Valerie. They were once in school together, but were never actually friends and went their own ways afterwards… Camilla is a fascinating character. It shows she has been having issues long before the accident that killed her husband and left her scarred for life… She is the perfect unreliable narrator, her grief, alcoholism and mental health problems in general blurring facts and fiction as you follow her in this story. Her development is thorough and her character is thoroughly flawed as well, and even though she is not exactly likeable she somehow manages to grow on you anyway. Stalker vibe and questionable actions or not, you can’t help but feel at least a tiny bit sorry for her as well as admire her for following through with her search. As for Valerie… She is less present, as we mostly see her through Camilla’s eyes, but she is without doubt essential to the plot. I never really liked her, but then again we mainly see the polished online version of her… Her character works really well to show the consequences and possible dangers of such a public and online life though, something all too topical nowadays where a lot of people seem to be living through their social media accounts.
The writing is solid and makes it really easy to fly through those pages. The plot is also well constructed and handled perfectly to keep building up that suspense as well as managing to mislead you successfully. Things can be said about the credibility of certain aspects of the plot, but there is no denying that Like Follow Kill was a very entertaining ride with an ending that I never saw coming and left me flabbergasted. Those final chapters are on fire!! If you enjoy reading psychological thrillers with an unreliable narrator and an explosive twist, Like Follow Kill should definitely be on your wishlist.
What did I just read? I shake my head, and not in a good way. If you are a social media addict and like narcissism, you’ll probably enjoy this book. I did not. I found the premise and the characters entirely vague. Unfortunately, I see this with way too many modern authors today. I much prefer clear and concise writing. I lost interest early on, but felt obliged to finish the book. I couldn’t relate to the main character; I couldn’t relate to any of the characters in fact. I found the book’s premise and the characters unlikable and not well-fleshed our. This could have been a really good mystery, but it wasn’t. The self absorption of most of the characters was a huge turn off for me. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
A bit of a scattered writing style. A bit unrealistic, yet good plot to it. A quick fast paced book. Holds your interest. A modern twist that deals with social media and being watched. And deals with tragedy. Not a bad read. Sucks you in after a bit.
I wasn't expecting a lot from this book but it definitely sucked me in. A great tension heightening read which I finished in one sitting. A must read.
A solid thriller. I felt the main characters were smart and capable and really cared about their fate. Very well written and insightful.
Holy crap! HOLY. CRAP. What in hell did I just read?! Because it was fantastic!! This book follows Camilla, a woman who gets into an accident with her husband while driving drunk. She survived with various cuts, scrapes, bruises and broken bones; he wasn't so lucky. Months later she's basically a shut-in. Her only contact with the outside world is her sister Hannah and social media. There's one account she follows religiously: a girl she went to school with, Valerie. But soon after the story starts, Valerie winds up in trouble and in rides Camilla to save the day.

I really liked this story. I read it in one greedy gulp in a matter of hours. Every time I thought I had the story pinned, in came a plot twist to rock me in another direction. By the time the book was over I had been shocked silly several times. The writing itself was so smooth and drew me right in. If you like psychological thrillers with killer twists, do yourself a favor and grab this book as soon as you can!

Thank you to NetGalley for providing and eARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Like, Follow, Kill is a book I thought I'd love. It's about this woman, Camilla, who was in a car accident with her husband, Chris, while drunk driving. She came out of the accident scarred, her face quite disfigured, yet still somehow, she got the better end of the stick than her husband, who died in the accident. Camilla locks herself up in her house and turns to social media for any kind of entertainment. She follows her school acquaintance, Valerie, very closely, developing an obsession for her perfect, glamorous life. And then Valerie goes missing...
I think anyone who enjoys thrillers would be hooked after that synopsis. Unfortunately, the story didn't turn out to what I wanted it to be. The bones of it were great, the ideas solid. I don't want to spoil anything, so I'll be very vague about my thoughts. I thought the main character was well done, but apart from one mention at the start, there is nothing that explains the person she is and why she is like that.
The book was suspenceful and fast paced. The first person narrative was a good choice of a narrative - it gave a glimpse into the main character's mind. I think I would rate this book 3.75 stars if not the ending. I like being shocked, but what I like more is when I can go back and trace all the signs back to the big reveal. The ending was full of plot twists, but the bad kind. The ones that are there clearly for the shock value, and don't add up. I think, maybe, I would've enjoyed the book even with those if not the last 2 pages, but sadly, those completely ruined the book for me.
2.75/5 stars
Not sure where to start with this book, it was fairly bonkers!
The story line definitely had me guessing as I had no idea where it was going!
Camilla hasn't ventured outside since the car she was driving was in an accident that killed her husband.
She has become obsessed with the on line life of an old school friend, Valerie. Her life seems idyllic. Then Valerie goes missing and Camilla knows she is the only one who can track her down...so far, so sane! Then it takes on a life of its own and you just have no idea where its headed!
I think I enjoyed this book!
Thanks to Netgalley for the chance to review this book, this is my honest opinion.
What did I just read? That was nuts. It takes a while to get used to the writing style which is all over the place, just like the main characters brain. It is a really quick, fast paced read and will have you sucked in pretty quickly. As the story continues it does start to get a bit over the top and unbelievable which is where it lost me. It was a great plot, but I was hoping for more.
Camilla Brown has locked herself away from the world after the death of her husband in a car crash where she survived but is badly scarred - both inside and out. She spends her time obsessing over people online, in particular a girl she went to school with Valerie. Valerie has a high flying life, travelling around and posting videos from her trips. Camilla starts to notice a man in all of her videos and begins to think she has a stalker. And then Valerie goes missing.
Thanks to Harper Impulse, Killer Reads and NetGalley for my advanced copy of this book to read. All opinions are my own and are in no way biased
I did not see the ending coming! Like, Follow, Kill is a taut thriller with a cast of well developed, unlikeable characters. Twists and turns drive a fast paced novel. Great for fans of Gone Girl!
