Aside from the absolutely ridiculous ending, the entire novel reads like a five year old Stephen King. A heroine you want to smash in the face for being so u likable and a plot that leaves you wondering how this book ever made it into print. A disaster if a story.
After reading the summary it sounded like a good mystery/thriller but wow was this not good at all. There were only a couple reviews to look through before starting so I din't know what to expect. This had the potential to be a good book but just fell way short. It felt like a debut novel that just scratched the service and I was waiting for something to happen but it was dull and didn't expand on anything. Half way through the book I guess correctly how the book would end minus a couple things.
I would describe this book as a young women overcoming her scars both physically and emotionally while also obsessing over a self absorbed social media star she went to high school with.
Like, Follow, Kill is a interesting read that had me gripped from the start! I always think thrillers are grittier when you’ve got a flawed character to follow (pun intended?!), I really enjoyed Camilla and how her brain worked throughout the story.
The suspense builds quickly and I read this in one sitting as I had to know what happened! Always a good sign with a thriller!
Unfortunately the ending felt rushed and left too many plot holes for my likening.
A respectable 3 out of 5.
Like, Follow, Kill by Carissa Ann Lynch lured me in immediately and did not disappoint. This is a fast-paced read that I devoured in a single sitting. I simply could not put it down. Full of twists and turns, this one delivers in spades.
Camilla Brown has lost her husband in a car accident that has also left her badly disfigured. Holed up in her apartment, and withdrawn from the outside world, Camilla fills her days by following the online presence of an old school friend. When she witnesses something alarming in a video post, Camilla is quick to do all she can to ensure her friend's wellbeing. I will say no more, only that this novel is aptly titled, and will have you reading into the night.
Many thanks to NetGalley, Harper Impulse and Killer Reads, and One More Chapter for this ARC.
I practically read this book in one sitting and mainly because I just couldn’t put it down, I needed to know just what the hell was real and what wasn’t but mainly I needed to know how it was all going to end as my goodness it was such a weird and twisted story !!
It’s the kind of book that creeps into your head and just won’t let go and very hard to describe and don’t you just love that kind of read. So as I read the last few pages I had a big satisfied smile on my face as yep this was a real good read with a real shock of an ending.
My thanks to NetGalley, Harper Impulse and Killer Reads for giving me the chance to read the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
Social media is the one place that Camilla Brown make contact with the outside world. The accident that killed her husband has left the widow badly scarred, so she hides herself away with her virtual friends. She’s particularly interested in following her old school buddy, Valerie, the woman who seems to have it all, a woman Camilla loves to hate. But when she sees a picture of a man looking through the window in one of Valerie’s posts, she is stopped in her tracks. After Valerie disappears, will Camilla launch an investigation to find the woman who seems to have everything Camilla lost?
The two things that annoy me most in books are dumb reasons for not calling the cops, and non-sensical plot twists trying to "out-thrill" the last one. Like, Follow, Kill checks both of these off.
Despite some flaws, the book was acceptable until the last 15% where you discover what really happened to Valerie, and then the author takes us on a plot-twist rollercoaster where things are just getting thrown at you. There's some disconnect with the main part of the book and the ending— instead of letting the book come to its natural conclusion, I feel like multiple, forced plot-twists were added just to shock readers and get that "I couldn't guess what happened next!" reaction. Of course you couldn't guess what happens next— the ending goes against everything we thought we knew about Camilla, and it'd make very little sense in the real-world even with more sinister people.
The writing wasn't for me— not bad by any means, just not my cup of tea— primarily because of all the dreams and flashbacks. I do understand how this was vital in order to show Camilla's mental state, so I'm not docking any points there. It was very readable, and I finished it within a few hours last night.
If you like super twisty novels, this one might be for you! Please don't let my review dissuade you— if you like the synopsis, give it a try. It seems like type of novel other readers will rave over, so I'm expecting to see plenty of good reviews come in.
I’m glad this book was fairly short since it had me hooked and reading it in one , late night, sitting.
Very different and full of twists I didn’t guess the ending or the twists and turns on the way. The main character, Camilla, injured in a car crash of her own making, sets off to help an old school acquaintance. Is she too late ? Has Valerie been kidnapped by a stalker ? Read it and find out !
