This is my first experience with a Katerina Baker book and my only wish that she becomes a better writer.
Under The Scrubs is a romantic thriller that promises suspense, adventure, and passion. I wish I had all that but all I got was a whiny and rambly lead, that is making me hate that first person POV even more.
The plot could have been interesting and should have been filled with action but it failed to deliver that, in my opinion. It was so hard to connect with the characters because it was difficult to imagine that they were real. If you have an OB/GYN character, you should know that they are experienced in dealing with babies, unlike our lead character here.
Overall, this book failed to satisfy my romance loving heart. And again, what a big disappointment.
I received a digitial ARC on this book from NetGalley. I will say it was a little hard to follow at times but I kept with it . I enjoyed it . the end was sad but they cant all be happy endings.

Overall, this novel missed the mark for me. I felt that the plot should have been interesting given the story's summary, but the plot wasn't evenly paced and it was just confusing as all get out. Since the author never clarified or unraveled the plot threads, it was not enjoyable and I struggled to finish the novel. Also, the main characters were kind of boring and weakly fleshed out.

I was SOOO bummed that this book fell short for me.. There wasn't natural chemistry... the pacing seemed kind of odd.. i'm not sure what was exactly lacking, but I wished I had loved it.
With a blurb like this you would think this would be a great action packed romance novel but it fell short in all aspects. The lead characters Kai and Emilia lacked chemistry and the pacing off the story was off so it became a little more than difficult to actually enjoy "Under The Scrubs". Too much was happening at the same and with lead characters like this, it wasn't worth the hassle to read it to the end.
i really wanted to love this book. Especially with the blurb and the cover really catching my attention. Also a new to me author too but I just didn’t click with this story or characters which is an absolute shame. Really wanted this book to be amazing and I just couldn’t finish the book. Will try the author again if a book catches my attention but this one wasn’t for me. Hope it might be for other people thow.
The blurb for this book hooked me! I was intrigued! I was still hooked through about 30%.
Then I skipped around.
The story lost me.
I really think this story could be amazing with a little more work on it. Too much kept me thinking the main lady was an idiot. It was missing something.
I’d be willing to read this book again if it was updated.
DNF @32%.
The blurb sounded awesome, but I don't feel like it's at all an accurate description of the actual story; at least not the first third. The narrator, Emilia, particularly bothers me. She's supposed to be an accomplished doctor, but she doesn't act like it! Kai is all over the place, and the only reason I know he's FBI is because of the blurb.
I rarely DNF, especially a book I agreed to review, but this story is inconsistent and not as expected, and Emilia annoys me too much to continue.
I think this book would be more appropriately titled Misadventures of an Ob-Gyn Doctor. There is a comedic feel to the book that is fun yet not too corny. However, I found it difficult to follow and hard to understand how the characters interplayed together. I also was surprised at how fast the heroine developed feelings for Kai when she really hadn't spent hardly any time with him. It felt a little contrived. Lastly, it ended very abruptly.
This was a complimentary copy but was attracted by the fact that it was not just a common or garden romance but one that promised more
I loved the twists and turns - they were unexpected - during the journey of Kai, Taylor et al. The interchangeable relationships between the 3 protagonists made for a more thrilling aspect to the novel
If you are looking for something more than just a romance read, this is a good way to go. It would make a very good book club book as the discussions re medical ethics, business ethics, security services, would be quite interesting to explore
I thoroughly enjoyed Under the Scrubs and would recommend this book. I'd very much like to read more of Katerina Baker's books.
Emilia Hughes is an OB/GYN who gets caught up in one bad situation after another. She's not trying to cause trouble, but she has that do-gooder heart where she needs to intervene and help. She's not really a tough girl, but she takes good care of people as a doctor and can cook like a dream. Kai Evans manages to sweep in a rescue her the first time and after that he begins to pursue her. They seemed like a cute couple at first, except Kai is rather tight lipped about anything personal about himself and he's always busy working, only showing up at sporadic times.
The story gets a little convoluted because then Emilia gets involved with delivering the baby of a famous celebrity's daughter, Melissa, who drags Emilia into her life. Which then leads Emilia to meeting Taylor Moore, a man who has some negative history with Kai. And from there, I thought that perhaps a love triangle was in the works because Taylor gets more page time than Kai. Despite Taylor's colored past, I found him to be more transparent and likable than Kai because Kai offers so little about himself so it was hard to form an attachment to him and advocate for him.
The way the story sets up the reveals and then concludes was a little bit lackluster. I liked Emilia overall, she had endearing qualities. Taylor was a fun distraction. Melissa was a hot mess. But Kai never really had a chance to prove himself. So I finished the story feeling rather ambivalent about the characters.

I thought this was a pretty ridiculous thriller, romantic novel. The heroine gets into some unbelievably dangerous situations where Kai saves her then gets her number and talks her into a romantic relationship. Wait...what...wasn't she just kidnapped a few minutes ago and now they're kissing and acting like nothing happened. Completely unrealistic and chaotic. it was difficult to connect with the characters.

Under the Scrubs by Katerina Baker ended up being a "What did I just read?" book and I have to agree with the previous reviews to say that the plot flitted between not only Emilia but Kai (FBI) and then Taylor (ex-FBI and ex-con). Then add in Melissa who kidnaps her to take care of baby Jayden. I'm still scratching my head as to why a doctor would continue to either be kidnapped or meddling into something she should have just walked away from. There is a lot of fighting between Taylor and Kai because of betrayal during this undercover op with the FBI.
Emilia Hughes is a OB/GYN who delivers a baby and then leaves the hospital. she tries to stop a assault and Kai comes to her rescue. Then she's kidnapped by Melissa's thugs and then the plot just bounces all over between the so many people that I just had to say Huh?
So I have to leave a 1.5 star rating which I hate to do because I'm sorry to say Under the Scrubs was confusing and for me I'm still wondering if there was a happily ever after or not?
This story had a lot going on. It was action packed and fast paced. I had a little bit of a hard time connecting with Kai, the hero. I couldn't really get a handle on him. While I liked Emilia, I felt like she had a hard time staying on task or paying attention to one thing at a time. I almost liked Taylor more than Kai. Overall it was an enjoyable read.
Not what I was expecting. The story was interesting enough, I read in the whole way through but the first person POV wasn't really working for me and ultimately it wasn't for me. I never did warm up to any of the characters (except Taylor, for fleeting moment) and the plot was all over the place that it was hard to follow at times.
This book could have been good. I liked the idea, behind it. Execution was terrible. I feel like the story didn't make sense at times, even the blurb has Taylor's name listed as Tyler. It was a mess, I am surprised I even got all the way through it. This book needs heavy editing, before release.
.5/1 stars

First I want to thank you Xpresso and NetGalley to give me the opportunity to read and review this book.
When I read the blurb I was immediately interested in getting my hands on this novel. The cover is also quite hot right?
The plot itself was good although I felt like there were holes they still needed stiches and the story would be totally amazing if there would be smooth switching between the scenes. Otherwise I am sure this new author needs to be given a chance as I truly like her thinking, mind wandering and the direction this story takes off to.
The blurb and gorgeous cover drew me in and I couldn't wait to try out this new-to-me author. I'm very sad to say that I didn't like it.
Too many plot holes, the characters were very wishy-washy and the plot was a trainwreck. I made it to chapter 7 before I started skimming the book to the end.
I couldn't get over how much of an airhead the heroine was, especially when she is supposed to be educated enough to be a DOCTOR. The first couple of chapters just had some much going on and not enough "transition" time to make it even remotely believable.
Maybe if the story had more development between the characters, then maybe I would have enjoyed it more. As it was I did not feel even a speck of chemistry between them. It felt like the author was "forcing" the characters into a romance.
Overall, this book was all over the place and I do not recommend it. This was my first book by Katerine Baker and I have no interest in reading anything else by this author.

WTH, is my thought throughout the book. I felt like I walked into a movie theater halfway through a movie. Did I miss something, I was so lost.
