This is a terrific nonfiction book about Marie Curie! It has enough depth to give insight beyond the facts that everyone already knows about her, too. I highly recommend it, especially since it is great to highlight female scientists.
A great illustrated biography of an important and too frequently overlooked figure in the history of chemistry. The story of Marie Curie's life in pictures, telling of her as a complete person and not just her accomplishments. I read this with my daughter to help her see who does science by learning about one of the greats! The illustrations were spare but engaging. The life story of Marie is fascinating.
Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book.
The art work was a little off for me, but the story itself seemed very researched and detailed. It was a bit difficult to follow at times, but female scientists stories are some of my favorites. There are things from this book that I'm going to have to look up to find out if it's true or not, like one of her daughters following in her parents' footsteps.
An excellent and approachable look at one of history's most amazing women. Wonderful artwork and storytelling combine to create an accessible history resource.
Thank you to Netgalley and the Publisher for the opportunity to read and review this title. All opinions are my own.
I had a very hard time getting into this so I can imagine if I give this to the kids. Even though it is a graphic novel, it still read like a dense informational book. I abandoned it 30 pages in.
This was a fantastic book about Marie Curie's life starting when she was a governess in Poland and continuing through her discoveries of radium and polonium all the way up to her death in 1934. This book is wonderfully researched and therefore felt very cohesive while I was reading it. I wasn't totally sold on the artwork at first. I didn't really like how the people were depicted but it grew on me the more I read. I loved how the architecture and the backgrounds of the panels were done though. If you are curious to know more about Marie Curie and her fascinating life then this is a fantastic book. I have read other books that are in this same vein and they were overly complicated and focused to much on the minute science rather than the person and their accomplishments. I would highly recommend this book; it was fascinating and very well done.
This is a brief illustrated story of Marie Curie's life. She was a fascinating lady and there were parts that I wish were more detailed. The art is a little strange but I think it fits the story. There are more details at the end of the book, including a timeline of her life.
Thank you NetGalley for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I received an electronic ARC from Lerner Publishing Group through NetGalley.
Graphic novel for young adult readers.
Milani brings Curie to life with her detailed drawings and text. The artwork shows the gamut of emotions and relationship challenges she faced. Curie battled to be recognized as a female scientist and this is reflected in the pictures and word choices.
Portions of the book are told in remembrances from her oldest daughter, Irene.
Informative text, timeline and bibliography included at the end of the book.
