I loved this book although the subtitle a heart warming laugh out loud love story is a complete misnomer. . I dislike books that are advertised as humorous or funny, but I really hate it when there isn't a laugh in the entire book - I''m not ever sure there was a smile - a good welling up of tears, but no laughs. the story itself was heart warming as they say. Jo runs a sanctuary for abused and abandoned donkeys.. Hattie flees Paris after rather large mishap at work. She returns to the small town she grew up in and while looking for work went to Jo's animal sanctuary. I don't why this book is pushed as a great romance story because I didn't find it all that filled with romance - unless you count the love Jo and Hattie have for the donkeys. Nevertheless, I thoroughly enjoyed the book.

A broken heart and the loss of her job makes Hattie leave Paris for home. Gillypuddle is a tiny little English village and Hattie hopes to be able to heal her broken heart there, instead she finds her parents coping with a loss of their own. Hattie takes a job at a nearby donkey sanctuary and immediately falls in love with the shaggy, gentle beasts. Her boss, Jo, is another matter; grumpy and distant, she makes it clear she prefers her donkeys to her new employee. But Hattie will soon discover that Jo is simply trying to protect her own broken heart. Throw in a good looking vet and and equally attractive newspaper reporter and you have a lovely little story of love, loss and second chances. And by the way. the donkeys steal the show
