Heermann gives us a near future filled with gladiators and corporations that have no restrictions or morals. This is a beautifully crafted story of damaged people who are just doing their best to survive and fit into a society that does not want to let them go their own way. It is easy to look at warriors in the ring, even today, and not think of them as having a life and needs. This story is violent and even erotic at times but detailed enough for the reader to get taken up in this quite possible future world.
