I was hoping to find some samples from the hot books coming the fall and winter. What I found was samples to like five books that only one of which I'd heard of and even then it didn't grab my attention. This one felt like they just grabbed some books that they felt were the under-underdogs of the upcoming publishing season and was trying to push them on booksellers and reviewers. This Buzz books was a major disappointment in comparison to previous ones.
I love reading the samplers, particularly the ones for YA and I was thrilled to see that this one included samples for books that I hadn't yet heard of. And a few of those books are ones that I wasn't sure if I wanted to read yet. This is always something I love to do since samples of a story can really help in making the decision for whether or not I want to read the novel. As for this group, I can definitely see myself reading some of these in the future, whereas a few others I wasn't as interested in.
If anyone were to ever get me to read a book about Tennis, it would be the authors of Legacy and the Queen, due to their melding it with some sort of magic in a world that appears to be very kingdom-esque.. I really enjoyed reading the sample for this book and would consider picking it up in the future.
The Last True Poets of the Sea was one of the books in this sampler that I definitely see myself reading, though from just the synopsis I probably never would have picked it up. It didn't sound especially interesting at the get-go, but when I started the story I found myself rather impressed with the writing. I enjoyed the narrator and definitely think this could be a book worth reading.
I just couldn't get past the writing style for Coral, which is good to know since I almost requested this book to read the whole thing. I think the premise sounds great, but I just didn't care for the writing. As for I'm Not Dying With You Tonight, I just didn't feel a connection with the story. It's not something that really sounds like a book I'd want to read, especially as I don't care for books with cheerleaders.
Honestly, I feel somewhat uncertain about Dear Haiti, Love Alaine because a part of me wants to read it and a part of me doesn't. Ultimately, the sample didn't really help me make a decision either way. For Harvey Comes Home, however, I just wasn't interested in the overall story and nothing about the sample really grabbed me enough to change my mind.
I was over the moon thrilled with the sample for Scars Like Wings. Not only did it begin with the most catching line I've read in a while. I'm really excited to pick this book up later and finish it. The premise sounds extremely fascinating and overall I was really impressed with the writing.
Home Girl just isn't the kind of book I see myself enjoying. I don't think there was anything exactly wrong with it, but I was turned off almost immediately by the harshness of the main character. I don't think I'll be continuing this book, but I do think others might enjoy it.
I wish this edition had included a wider variety of genres. I usually preorder several choices, but only found one that sparked my interest.
If you are looking for new YA to read this fall and winter, I think there are a lot of great stories in this booklet and you should check it out! Not all of the stories interested me but many did, and I found a lot of new upcoming released books to add to my TBR. And for those I already had on my TBR, I am even more excited about them than before.
This is a really good preview of the books that are coming out soon! I am particularly excited for The Last True Poets of the Sea.
I always devour these Buzz Books as soon as they are available. What an awesome way to get exposed to books you wouldn't normally look at. I requested one and wrote the rest down in my notebook to get later on. I love this idea of reading snippets of stories to see if you like the writing and the book.
These guides are so useful when I'm making my TBR. The excerpts included are really helpful to decide which books I want to read, and to find some new authors as well! Several of these are already on my list, and I plan on requesting some from this guide too!
A great guide to the upcoming titles to watch out for. I've requested several and will be crossing my fingers!
Thanks so much, Buzz Books and NetGalley for the opportunity to read these advance excerpts! Once again, the Young Adult listing provided plenty of exciting ideas to add to my TBR list.
Thanks so much for making this available via NetGalley. Always a great guide to what I want to review and write about for my blog and for my freelance work.
Thank you for the opportunity to read these excerpts in advance! The one that caught my interest the most was Home Girl. I've never read a YA book about someone in foster care, it's such an interesting and compicated topic.
I always look forward to these samplers. None of the excerpts provided in this edition caught my eye but I appreciate the list of upcoming releases in the beginning. A number of them are on my TBR so the reminder of the release dates was helpful. I’ve looked up a few whose titles caught my eye so now my fall/winter TBR has grown a bit more!
This is a great list and resource for fellow book lovers! I am ecstatic about the books that are to be added to my TBR list.
I always look forward to each Buzz Books sampler, it's such a great way to get people excited about upcoming books. In this edition I was most intrigued by "Coral", a modern day twist on The Little Mermaid, and "Dear Haiti, Love Alaine."
I always love seeing new books that are releasing that I’d have otherwise missed!
*Thank you to Netgalley for the first copy!*
This is such an incredible list! There are so many of my anticipated reads on it for this fall. I loved the excerpt from Coral. It was originally on my radar, but seeing as it is a Little Mermaid retelling, I NEED this book in my life. I also loved the excerpts from Dear Haiti, Love Alaine and Scars Like Wings, which are already on must read list for the year! I'm now even more excited to get a hold of these books!
Amazing booklet. Great to be able to go through this and add books to my tbr list that I may not have herd about if not for this genius idea. Thank you so very much for making this booklet available. Love it.
So helpful for creating my TBR lists! I love being able to read little excerpts from the books. I recommend checking this out if you are looking for new books to read!
I love these preview books! I am excited to find some new books to get hyped about and I cannot wait to see what kind of books are in here.
Worth a quick perusal to make sure you haven't missed anything buzzy being published in the Summer/Fall. I wasn't interested in any of the excerpts but the list at the beginning certainly added some titles to my TBR.
