I used to read Jude Deveraux's books years ago but haven't in a long time. This book was a e-copy offered to me by the publishers and i just couldn't get into it. It seems like part of a series but I've never read any of the others so i was completely lost. This is my personal opinion and i hope this review doesn't discourage others from reading this book. Thank you to Netgalley and Harlequin for my honest review
Terri isn’t sure what to think when she finds Nate in her household the lake. Then he find out that he has a fiancé. ARC from NetGalley.
I'm no fan of small towns. So at first, I was all grumbling on behalf of the main character just because of the quirks of small-town life. Plus, I incorrectly assumed that I had the entire plot figured out. I liked the book well enough; I just thought I knew exactly where it was going. Plot twist, this isn't your grandma's Harlequin Romance.
There is a romance between Terri and Nate, and that part is as expected. What I didn't expect was there extremely accurate descriptions of the relationships between people who live in a lake town and those who visit during the Summer. I also did not foresee the surprise mystery plot at all. This story is a great weekend read, and I'd recommend it if you are looking for a couple of hours of escapism.
Met Her Match is a well written romance. Great plot and character development. I always know I am going to love the book when I see this author’s name. Thanks to the publisher for my advance ebook. This is my unbiased review.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher, MIRA Books; who provided this ebook in exchange for an honest review. I hadn't read a book by Ms. Deveraux since I was a little girl swiping my mom's and auntie's books from their bookshelves.
In a way, this book gave me so much comfort to read...it was a light summery type of book; a little mystery, a cast of characters that were well-developed and written, humor, a story that has a definite beginning-middle-ending. I enjoyed Terri and Nate's story and wish I had a 'Lake Kisses' of my own, haha!
Terri has lived in her hometown trying to live down gossip she didn’t deserve her entire life. When Nate arrives in town, she believes there is hope for a chance, but her hopes are dashed quickly. I loved the relationship these two had, and the suspense throughout the story kept me on the edge of my seat. Not only does Nate prove he is a true Prince Charming, but the way he goes about it will melt your heart! Jude Devereax has another hit with this book!
Jude Deveraux is probably my favorite author of romance. She never disappoints. I love how she has new series but uses characters from other series. Like visiting with old friends. This book has it all, romance, mystery, small town with all the quirky characters that come with them.
What a great book. Terri and Nate were great together and I did not want him to marry Stacy. I did not like her parents they were big ole snobs. I wonder if there is a book about Kit and Nate working together that sounds like an interesting story. I did not get the whole story on how everyone ended up at the lake but I understood the part about the 2 sides of the track. Terri got the raw end of the deal in high school but only because she took the blame for things she had no control over. She was a bigger person than I could be in all the situations she ended up being blamed on.
I would love more stories on Rowan, Stacy and Bob.
I really enjoyed this story. I was captivated with the relationship between Nate and Terri, they had such an insta-soul mate chemistry the story was fun to read.
Terri works with her father taking care of the lake community where she grew up. Having spent her life plagued by rumors, she knows her limitations. And that is not to expect to be liked or treated fairly by anyone in town. Even though Terri and her father have worked tirelessly to prove the rumors false, their hope has been squashed at every turn.
Small towns don’t forget the past.
Luckily, the lake community has become a safe haven for them. They’ve built a beautiful place, a safe place Terri can truly call home. Well, it was a safe place until she wakes up one morning and finds a gorgeous man has taken up residence in her very home.
Nate, not wanting to stay directly in town, was told he could enjoy the benefits of the lake home while the owner was away.
These two hit it off immediately, insta-attraction, BAM! But….as fate would have it, Nate is engaged. Engaged to none other than the beloved, perfect daughter of the town major. Terri does what she can to shake him, but Nate isn’t giving up. He loves the lake community and isn’t leaving. He works to prove he can be an asset and begs to stay for two more weeks. They soon find out that they are more than compatible. But what about the rumors? Is Terri doomed to prove them founded?
As Nate tries to understand the past and the truth behind the rumors, secrets are revealed.
As his time at the lake draws near Terri realizes too late that her feelings of friendship with Nate aren’t just friendship. She is in love with Nate, the same Nate that is going to marry another.
What will happen when Stacy returns? Will a happily ever after ever be in the cards for Terri? Is she fated to live her life an empty shell?
I like that this story gave us a refreshing change by having their connection built entirely on friendship first. The love, hate, bicker, banter, side-smoldering hidden glances, and the comfortable compatibility, gave us intriguing reading! You get enough hints that you know there is a physical attraction for sure, but not being able to act on it, made them build a friendship. A friendship without strings that allowed them to be themselves. I enjoyed reading about their antics, their communication, and how they just seamlessly flowed.
A really great story I truly enjoyed!
Lake Kissel summer hill,Virginia
Terri is at her house on the lake. She is the daughter of a resort owner. She has a variety of job duties.Terri sees a handsome man at the lake thinking of how long she has been single. There is a rule that Terri is not to date any of the visitors. I liked that the story was set in Virginia but no connection to Terri.
I loved Terri and Nate’s story. They have an intense chemistry that is fun to see develop. Jude Deveraux is a master storyteller. I have read many of her books and enjoy her writing style. I like the blend of romance and mystery.
I received an ARC of this book through NetGalley to read in exchange for a fair review. Met Her Match by Jude Devereaux is the story that explores life in a small town, the divide between those that live in town and those that live out at the lake and how gossip carries on through generations. Terri Rayburn lives out at the lake, her family looks after the properties that border the lake and rent out cabins to tourists and annual visitors. Terri’s mother disappeared when she was a small child and the people in town look down their noses at her because they’re sure she’s flighty just like her mama. She comes home from a couple of days away to find that her family has moved Nate Taggert into her house as he’s engaged to the mayor’s daughter Stacy and needed a place to stay until his fiancee gets back from a trip to Italy. With nothing to do while he waits for Stacy to return he helps Terri out with the never ending list of things to be done around the lake and a firm friendship is formed. Nate being the kind of guy who likes to fix things determines to solve the mysteries surrounding Terri’s moms disappearance to put to rest the gossip and rumours so that Terri can live her own life and along the way figures out who it is he wants to be. I enjoyed this story very much and hope that the author will write some more stories about Summer Hill, Virginia. Medium Steam. Terri Rayburn grew up on the outskirts of Summer Hill, VA and spends her days taking care of the summer resort on Lake Kissel. She keeps herself busy so she can stay out of the small town gossip - there're enough false rumors about her childhood already. However, when she returns home to find Nate Taggert, a handsome stranger living in her house, she thought she has met her match. Unfortunately, Nate is engaged to the mayor's daughter and is strictly off-limits.
Nate starts to throw himself into life at the lake and they become fast friends. As Nate starts to hear rumors about Terri, he’s determined to discover the source of the gossip. Terri doesn’t want to revisit her painful past, but Nate will stop at nothing to uncover the truth—even if the truth might be more than either of them can handle.
Jude Deveraux is a household name when it comes to romances. Met Her Match is book two in the Summer Hill series. I haven't read the first one but the storyline is pretty standalone. I thought it was a good read with well developed characters. I loved the banter between Terri and Nate and how perfect they were for each other. I just wished he wasn't engaged. Technically he didn't cheat on his fiancee but the situation he put himself in made me uncomfortable. Can't wait to see what the next book in the series brings!
Thank you to Netgalley and Mira Books for a copy of this ARC in exchange for my honest review!
I didn't like this book at all. I was bored with it and I had to force myself to read it.
I know some would love it but it just wasn't for me at all.
I love Terri (and her house) and I love Nate. It was interesting to see a resort through the eyes of someone who worked there. Being somewhat of a workaholic myself, I see in Terri, how I need to step back and enjoy life. It was refreshing to see her do just that and I can't wait to have this book in my library!
I haven't read Jude Deveraux in a long time, and I don't know why I stopped. Wonderful series set in a small town that I wish I could live in. Some mystery, and a lot of characters involved in small town life. Can't wait to read the next book, can't wait to see who it's about!
This review is based on an ARC from NetGalley, courtesy of the publisher. All opinions are my own.
In the small town of Summer Hill, Virginia, Terri Rayburn has a reputation that hangs over her like a black cloud.
Summer Hill is a town divided. The lake people and the town people. The lake property is mainly Terri's fathers and she lives on the lake in her family home. She works hard at everything from repairing a boat motor to dragging tourists out of the water. She knows her place and it is the lake.
When she returns home to find a man in her house, she smells a rat. Are her father and uncle trying to fix her up with a man? A man who is engaged to the Mayor's daughter?
Nate is a good man. He gets along with everyone and is very good at what he does. But now he's out of that business and looking to settle down. But with who? As Terri and Nate settle into a friendship that sizzles, Nate is hearing some nasty rumors about Terri and her mother, who disappeared long ago. Nasty rumors have always circulated about what happened.
With the help of a lot of good people, Nate discovers the truth about Terri's mother and it will change everything. But will he find out who he is and who he wants?
A great summer read with a strong female lead. The characters were great and I hope we hear more from them all!

Growing up in a small resort town on Cape Cod I understand the small town mentality. Everyone knows your name, townies vs tourists, and overcoming gissip. This story has more twists and turns than you can imagine so it keeps the reader on their toes. There's murder, revenge, suspense and if course a bit of romance. Great characters, and all in all a great end of summer read!
I received a free ARC eBook from Net Galley and the publisher for my honest opinions.
I love books set in small towns, and this is a good one! Small towns are ripe with gossip, old resentments, and there’s no where to hide when things get tough. Terri has been dealing with that kind of trouble since her mother left town, leaving Terri and her father to sort out their lives. She’s instantly smitten with Nate when he comes to town, but he’s engaged to someone else, further complicating her life. This book is a love story as well as a mystery, and it was a fun read. Met her Match is the second book in the Summer Hill series. I haven’t read the first one, and although this book works as a stand-alone, I recommend reading it first. I wish I’d had the background of the first book before I read this one.
Set at Lake Kissel, Summer Hill, Virginia. Small town, gossip, vacationers, well to do Towns people and the working class. What a better setting for romance, and mayhem.
