Olivia Berg's charity, Christmas From The Heart, provides some much needed holiday cheer in the small town of Pine River. But her charity relies on the donations from companies like Hightower Enterprises, so when Hightower's CFO, Guy, informs her they can no longer provide their large annual donation, he becomes Olivia's personification of the Grinch. When Guy's car breaks down outside of Pine River he ends up being helped by Olivia, who has no idea who he is. He decides to keep her in the dark and hopefully get out of town before she learns his true identity.
This was a charming story about the spirit of holiday giving and the pitfalls we fall into when we make snap judgments about others. I felt the beginning was a bit slow and it took longer than I would have liked to get to Olivia and Guy crossing paths in person. In addition, because that took so long the first third of the book felt like it was just repetitions of Olivia and Guy complaining about the other to the point where I didn't really like either character initially. Luckily, I warmed to them both as they interacted more but then I felt the story wrapped up too quickly. This is the kind of story that I think would make a great Hallmark holiday movie -- full of some warm holiday giving, a little love story, and a side of drama.
3.5/5 stars
Cute, cozy, easy to read Christmas story. Could definitely be made into a Hallmark movie A charitable women, Livi and a corporate cold heart, Guy. This is their romance and a Christmas story of how much good a person can bring to their community with effort and heart. Thanks to Net Galley for the opportunity to read an advance copy..
Christmas from the Heart by Sheila Roberts has future Fa La La La Lifetime or Hallmark movie written all over it.
1. Overly good deeds doer and lover of all things Christmas female lead: check.
2. Handsome and rich male lead who needs to have his Scrooge like heart changed by above mentioned beautiful female lead: check.
3. Small town with a winter fruitcake competition and Christmas dinners and stockings for the poor: check.
4. Lots of hot cocoa drinking: check.
5. Christmas cookies galore: check.
The list could go on and on. Luckily for me, I’m the kind of person that a book like this or a Hallmark movie is written for, so I didn’t mind the formulaic Christmas romance story. It doesn’t take long for you to figure out what the conflict in this story is and that it is going to cause havoc. I had fun watching the story play out in front of me especially the whole fruitcake competition. Sheila Roberts’ books always make me chuckle out loud and are great for stress release. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to read a copy of this book for free. All thoughts expressed are my honest opinions of the book.
Well, the caption of the book: "Sometimes you need to look beyond the big picture to see what really matters" is really accurate. And it pretty much sums up my feelings about the book. Was it a good book? Well... if I look into the romance which was supposedly starting between Guy and Livi, then I would have to say NO. Because the - almost to the point of obsessive - charitable Livi and the corporate coldhearted Guy are not very connectable characters in my opinion. It irritated me almost that Livi thinks that the Hightower company should donate to her charity cause: because they have always done so. She was obsessed with getting funding for her Christmas of the Heart foundation and she doesn't hesitate to use people like the guy who has been crushing on her for years. But if I overlook those facts, then Sheila Roberts has done an outstanding job in describing a world where you can truly make a difference to your community. And Livi shows this to Guy, who was cutting budgets in order to save the jobs of his employees, without seeing the effect of his choices.
So yeah: the big picture was definitely interesting, heartwarming and with a lovely Christmas atmosphere. So, for the total picture a total of three out of five stars and a special thank you to Netgalley for providing the arc.
This is sweet small town Christmas romance. Olivia is trying to keep her family charity from going under. She reaches out to Hightower Enterprises to help out again this year. They have decided to go in a different charity direct this year. This has a lot of references to A Christmas Carol in it and it can seems like it's a little like that book. Olivia and Guy see each other in a different light once they meet. Eventually a secret comes out and ruins the chance they have together. Like any romance everything works out in the end. This was cute, sweet and fun book to read.

Olivia is keeping up the family charity that has been running since her grandmother first started it. Things start to look a bit grim when the main donors Hightower Enterprises back out. When shes unable to convince the Ebenezer Scrooge CFO Guy Hightower she works her hardest to make sure shes still able to do what she can for others who benefit for the charity. While driving Guy's car decides to give out and who else would offer a lending hand other then miss charity her self Olivia. Not wanting her to know of his true name,he makes up one and ends up sticking around longer then expected intending to leave when his car is repaired. Until that happens hell be hanging around her and her community during this holiday season.
I loved this book! It'll defiantly get you in the Holiday spirit as you read this book so be sure to put this on your holiday tbr list. I loved getting to know the characters. I loved seeing how everything played out during this festive season, seeing first hand how Olivia's Charity was not only getting people into the holiday but its helped many people who needed help during the holidays that were tight on cash and really benefited from the charity she was running. It was interesting getting to see Guy volunteer his time and seeing what that money really would've helped if he had just donated in the first place. Then there was the romance that was blooming between the two and it was sweet to watch. Also this book does have a clean romance for those of you who were curious, I defiantly appreciated it. Then there was the drama of her best friend who clearly liked her and I was curious to see if he's stir up trouble and in what way. Overall this was just a sweet holiday book and I really enjoyed it.
Gus Hightower is more than the CFO of the family business he's trying to keep afloat. He's the one making the rough business decisions, even when it's saying no to a charity. And he doesn't expect that decision to come face to face with him when stranded broken down on the side of the road before Christmas.
Livi Berg has one mission in life, to make Christmas from the Heart flourish and serve the needs of her community. She has put aside all her dreams of travel and finding her happily ever after to focus on the family legacy. When faced with the loss of a major donor she's at her wits end, until she sees the fancy car on the side of the road. Could Santa be answering her wish for not only the charity, but for her as well?
And of course Guy can't tell her who he really is. But that slippery slope of deception never ends well. Maybe he can make a difference and change everything for the better.
Immediately I warmed to Olivia, Livi to her friends and family.
She’s still reeling from the death of her mum, trying to run her grandmothers charity, doing the best for her community and caring for her bereft father.
All the while she puts herself last. She has dreams and aspirations but the charity, family and friends come first.
Guy is suffering from the loss of his father. He’s in the hot seat at the family company and trying to do right but making some wrong decisions along the way.
After making an enemy of Livi his car breaks down and being a Good Samaritan Livi comes to his rescue.
Instead of admitting who he is to Livi he lies and like most lies to cover up the first one more come tumbling out.
Guy weaves a tangled web and eventually he’s rumbled.
Throughout the book I was rooting for them to get together but you’ll have to read it for yourself to see if they do or if her childhood sweetheart Morris finally gets his chance.
It’s a chick-lit filled with Christmas cheer and Hallmark movie cheese but I loved it!
At the end of the book are some tips to make an inexpensive but lovely Christmas for your family as well as some of Livi’s recipes. This is a really unexpected but lovely added touch!
This is the perfect winter read, a book to curl up on the sofa with a hot chocolate and your favourite biscuit.
Sweet Christmas story about a charity officer in a small town meeting CEO Guy aka "scrooge". This book will get you in holiday mood in Hallmark style.
CEO Guy's company is struggling and thus not able to donate, as his company has done for years, to Olivia's "Christmas of the Heart" charity that provides Christmas stockings and free food for families in need in her small town.
After Guy and Olivia exchange exceedingly rude e-mails and phone calls they meet by accident when Guy's car breaks down near Olivia's town. He decides not to give up his identity to the woman he recognizes as the lady that makes him feel like scrooge.
This is a great story to get you in the holiday spirit. I loved the characters of Olivia and Guy, the setting was beautiful, and there was humor involved. I highly recommend.
Many thanks to MIRA and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
Sentimental and soppy, heroine just too good to be true. A quick read with a predictable ending.Good for a spare hour by the fire at xas.
Christmas From the Heart

Christmas From the Heart is a charming story. Olivia runs a charity for the poor, but the loss of her biggest donor is a blow. Guy owns the company that normally makes the big donation to Olivia's charity. His company is in trouble, thus no money to give, but no one knows about it. Circumstances bring Olivia and Guy together, and a relationship develops. What happens when they realize the connection between them? It's a sweet holiday story with the message of giving not receiving. Olivia is a bit entitled, but otherwise, she's a good heroine. Guy is a typical hallmark movie hero. I enjoyed most of the story, but it's predictable. It's a solid feel good warm hearted story that is easy to read without stressing your mind.
A sweet Christmas read where a non profit organization run by Livi lost a major donation made by the Hightower companies run by Guy and there were words exchanged. Until serendipity played a part, and Guy was stranded in her town a few days before Christmas. False identity, final reveal, and love finding its way made this book complete.
Sheila Roberts has written a fun story where the pages turned fast. Warmth and cheer of Christmas could be felt as sweet as the chocolate fruitcake that the duo tasted. False identity showed Guy what he was missing about Christmas. Grinch having a turn of heart was well depicted.
Livi was too fixated on the donation, it was ironical when she uttered the words admitting that she felt entitled to the donation for her non- profit organization. Small town love and generosity added to the Chrismassy mood. A short fun read over breakfast.
This was a nice Christmas book. Olivia is the head of a non-profit group that serves a small Washington town during the holidays. Guy is the financial officer of a company that has given generously until the current year. They hate each other, then actually meet.
Things I liked: I liked the town and I liked seeing how people of all ages and classes contributed to a good cause. I liked seeing a glimpse of another, simpler world through Guy's eyes. The fruitcake/fundraising night was a special favorite of mine.
Things I didn't like quite as much: I dislike love triangles. I felt like Olivia often came across as feeling entitled to donations, although her dedication and hard work offset that a bit. I get kind of uptight when the main conflict comes from something that could be revealed in a sentence if someone just decided to be honest.
Even with those things, this story was well worth reading and was a great holiday story!
I instantly fell in love with the tiny town of Pine River and all the characters that live there. From Olivia and Guy's romance to the themes of how little things make big effects, this tale left me with a happy heart and a smile on my face. I highly recommend this to all romance readers.
Olivia runs a long time non-profit that helps those in need at Christmas time. When she finds out that a regular donor is not contributing, she endeavors to find out why. Guy denies the request because his company is experiencing some difficulties. On his way to visit with his mom his car breaks down in a small town. He has to spend a day there waiting for a part and the only place he is offered to stay is at, you guessed it, Olivia's house. When he realizes who has come to his aid he doesn't tell her is real name. They begin to hit it off. Guy knows she will toss him aside when his identity is revealed. Will she forgive him in the spirit of Christmas or make a big mistake and settle. A heart warming holiday story.
This is a Cute Christmas story, with lots of local small town characters. Hometown girl meets rich guy. He covers up his identity then has to find a way to make his wrongs right with her. I received an advance copy and am voluntarily reviewing it.
I enjoyed the premise of the story; Holiday time is the perfect time to give to others and that’s what this book is all about. Christmas from the Heart is the name of this novel but also the name of the organization that Livi runs as a non-profit to bring joy and love to families at Christmas. The only trouble is that this year it has been very difficult raising the money to make this possible. To top it off, Hightower corporation has refused to give a donation, and they have been the main contributors since her grandmother's time. Livi herself lives on a shoe string; she lives at home with her Dad and scrimps by with very little. Guy on the other hand - the CFO of Hightower has his own swanky apartment and lives rather well. He is rather cautious though of women who have their eye on his money, which that leaves him a bit cynical; including Livi, the do-gooder. To be fair he is hardworking and the Hightower business is struggling despite all the long hours he works. Sometimes you need to look beyond the big picture to see what really matters.
Ms. Roberts wrote a feel good, spread good spirit, charming Christmas story in Christmas from the Heart; a nice hallmark movie in book form. This story was a bit bland for me but I thought the message was nice. I thought it was a little repetitive in the beginning. Livi was unable to get over the fact that she lost her largest donor and Guy struggled to get over his guilt about it. After it was repeated a few times, I had to skim through certain sections. Also, Livi also made me mad in the way she led on Morris even though she didn't really have feelings for him!
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
When Olivia loses her biggest contributor to her charity she doesn'tknow what she is going to do. Not only did she lose them but the CEO is a jerk.
Guy has to make cuts in order to keep the family business going. He can't believe the emails he is getting from this charity.
Sometimes life doesn't go the way you pklan but a broken down car in a small town can make you see things differently.
This book had a lit of meaning there where some slow spots but it was still a good read.
