I truly enjoyed reading this historical novel which is the first in a series.
The Vagabond Vicar had some interesting characters and the overall story was fascinating. Can't wait to read more books by this author.
Synopsis:
Vicar William Brook is biding his time in the small village of Amberley, desperate for a missionary posting overseas. He hadn’t counted on being captivated by Cecilia Grant, a free-spirited artist, who challenges him at every turn.
Cecilia is destined to marry a local aristocrat – or at least that’s what her mother thinks. But the darkly handsome new vicar seems to understand her in a way no one ever has, and she finds herself drawn to him even as he holds her at arm’s length.
As their relationship blossoms, dark secrets are revealed in Amberley and a scandal from William’s past may see the end of both his career and their love.
ALthough the Vicar in this book was not much of a "vagabond" (he just likes to walk around), I did enjoy this book. The plot was a bit different and the characters were all interesting and believable.
I hesitated to read this book for some time because the cover was not so inviting.
I was so wrong to judge a book by its cover first.
The book was easy and pleasant to read, with good plot and romantic theme.
For those who like happy ending... This one is for you!
I enjoyed this sweet, clean Regency story. In so many Regency books, the vicar is portrayed in a negative light, but the author has made William a quite likable character. He’s an upstanding, compassionate young man whose plans for his career turn out drastically different than what he had planned. I also liked Cecilia. She’s a different sort of Regency heroine, and her quirkiness is endearing. This story has some interesting plot twists that held my interest. This is a good book and I look forward to reading more from this author.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
This was an enjoyable book to read. The characters were interesting. It was easy to read, I could relate to the characters and it had a good story with a happy ending. There was drama and suspense with humour as well. I recommend this book to be read.
An absolutely charming book! Fans of Jane Austen will love this sweet novel about a young Church of England clergyman who planned to pursue ministry in exotic locales overseas but finds himself sent to a sleepy village in remote England. The love interest is a feisty young girl who cannot seem to stick with her mother's program of marrying her off to a local aristocrat. Beautifully written, charming characters and setting, a delightful read.
I Really enjoyed this book. This is the first book I have read by this author and I have to say I really enjoyed the characters and the storyline. At first William is only staying in the village a shirt time, and is wanting a missionary post overseas. He hadn’t intended on meeting Cecilia Grant who is destined to marry a local aristocrat. They meet and Cecilia is drawn to him because he understands her like no one ever as before. Their relationship develops but obstacles are put in their way as their relationship develops from Williams past. Can love conquer all!
A fabulous read, that draws you in with loveable believable characters. The book is a great great page turner with just the right amount of love and intrigue and plot twisting that I love in a great historical romance. I really enjoyed it,I will be following this author with much interest and will look forward to the reading the next novel.
Thank you net galley for the advance reader copy of the novel. I enjoyed this Regency era historical fiction and that it was a clean romance. I did feel that there was a lot of unnecessary secondary action that took place to stir the plot about the 75% mark. William and Celcilia were great characters who bonded together as friends first which helped move this story along. Good read overall about overcoming obstacles when in love.
I liked the idea of this story better than its execution. The writing was rather juvenile at times, like a first attempt that needed a strong editor. I’ll be reading the next in the series, but will likely skip the third when it’s released as it appears to center around the villain from this first book.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
