Wow, this is pure genius. I am going to make this my 2nd favourite book for 2019.
Ok so there is a detective in the story working the case over the past 13 years of the Blindfolder. Black women injected with a drug to paralyse them so as not to struggle. Abducted for 48 hours and they must keep their eyes shut or they will be ended. This story has an unusual storyline of a police detective inspector being seriously and personally involved with no progress being shown on who the blindfolded is. There is never any evidence left on the women to pinpoint who the abductor is. There are 2 aspects in this book Detective inspector Jody Foster and Pieta Rawlings, a journalist who gets to interview one of the survivors. All the women being held by the blindfolder are seriously damaged mentally and physically so are continuously wary of men in particular.
Very well written with some positive outcomes for some of the characters and maybe a possible follow on? Thoroughly enjoyable.
It's been a while since I read one of Dorothy Koomson's books and I had forgotten how addictive they are! I was hooked from the first page and finished the book in one day. The twists and turns kept me guessing until the end. A really enjoyable read.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with a free e-copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
Close your eyes, keep them closed for 48 hours and I'll let you go... Tell anyone and I'll find you and kill you...
Chilling, isn't it? That's what happened to the victims of The Blindfolder. That's what happened to Pieta, a journalist. She was released and, to date, she has never told anyone.
Jody, a police officer, made a mistake that allowed The Blindfolder to slip through her grasp. Now she believes that his previous victims are being killed and she wants, above anything, to bring him to justice. It's her personal crusade and nothing will stand in her way. Until, one of his victims, Callie, wants to go public, wants to tell her story in the press, and wants Pieta to tell it. Then she finds out that Pieta was herself a victim of The Blindfolder and believes that she now has a way to bring him to justice. But at what cost? How far will she go to get what she so desperately wants, craves and needs...?
This book sucked me in and didn't let me go until the very end. I've read this author before and so I knew what I was letting myself in for, her expert storytelling, tight plotting, and twists and turns aplenty, but I wasn't quite expecting what I got. Hammer blow after hammer blow, shocks delivered at exactly the right times for my jaw to drop several times along the way. Tension ramping up as more of the story unfolds until, boom, an ending that even I, a seasoned hand at this genre book, didn't see coming. An ending that, when all was said and done, was seamlessly delivered with great aplomb with emotion dripping from every page.
Characterisation was excellent. Apart from the running Jodi Foster explanation (which did get a bit tiring) all the characters were well crafted and played their parts well. Pacing was perfect and each shock and twist inserted at exactly the right time for maximum impact. And the story, well, that just blew me away which, believe me, takes a lot to do these days!
All in all, a cracking read that I thoroughly enjoyed and which left me wholly satisfied at its conclusion. My thanks go to the Publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book.
What an utterly sick and twisted mind Dorothy Koomson must have, to have come up with this unputdownable and completely original book.
I've never heard of, or read a crime just like this one, and it is rather horrific, and the amount of years The Blindfolder has been at it is staggering.
Imagine you were kidnapped, told you would live but only if you could keep your eyes closes for 48 hours no matter what you may feel or hear. No matter what torture may occur or atrocities. Well this is what this sick bastard of a villain does, or did.
For it is now back, hunting down past victims, ones that had obeyed and then not gone to the police and had tried to move on with their lives, and killing at regular intervals.
This is a police investigation on a clock before the next body appears like clockwork in a park either in London or Brighton.
This is the story of three women, although we only get two perspectives. There is Callie who we only really get to see from the other women, she is determined to put her experience out there, and to help other women to come forward to help the police with their investigations.
But the main two focal points are Pieta, the journalist who is being asked to write the story, and Jody, the police detective who has been working on the case and is determined to solve it before anyone else is hurt.
Let's just say that there are many many secrets in this book, some more deadly than others, some more chilling than others, and this is a story that has got under my skin and frankly terrified me that these sorts of crimes could be happening.
I really can't say much else about the characters or plot other than it starts of feeling ominously creepy and the tension ramps up as the book progresses. I don't want to risk giving away any vital hints as to even my opinions on the main people but will say keep your eyes open and take in everything.
It is a masterpiece of a book, dark, thrilling, scary, incredibly well written, engaging, had me feeling great sympathy and shock at some points, while at others not really wanting to empathise with the characters, out of fear myself.
I'm a massive fan of Dorothy Koomson's books, and have been reading them for many years and noticed that they appear to be getting darker with each release. And this must be the darkest, most despicable of crimes yet, but still with her trademark style of making you care deeply about the various characters.
This is one amazing book, and I literally can't wait to see what the author writes next
Thank you to Netgalley and Headline for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

I was given an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest and independent review.
It has been a long time since I read a Dorothy Koomson book and I am not sure why. From the very first page I was gripped by this story. I loved the style in which it was written and the characters were interesting and real.
A cleverly woven plot with enough twists to keep the reader hooked until the end.
I love Dorothy Koomson books and this did not disappoint- Twists And turns unfold a great plot that kept me guessing until the very end
Another gripping read from Dorothy Koomson.
Detective Jody Foster is hunting the Blindfolder, a name given to the person who has been abducting and terrorising women for over fifteen years. He has now returned to kill the few he let go. It's personal with Jody as she has been hunting him for years.
He is clever and leaves no traces of himself on his victims.
Jody comes into contact with journalist Pieta when she supervisors an interview with one of the Blindfolder's victims. Jody can tell through Pieta's expression that she was a victim too and hopes that she can help in the investigation but Pieta will do anything except admit to it.
If you think you can predict any of this book then you'd be wrong. I found it hard to put down as it went from one crisis to another. Both Jody and Pieta are emotionally damaged by what happened in their past. They find it hard to move past it and build walls around them to keep themselves safe.
Parts of the story are quite hard to read as they are part of the abuse inflicted by the Blindfolder. A few times I actually said,"Oh no!" out loud, that's how involved I felt with the story.
Dorothy Koomson never fails to write a good story and doesn't shy away from the nitty gritty. Always expect the unexpected and don't read in bed.
I ploughed through this book in a few days, I really thought I knew what was going to happen... but I didn't!
The story focuses on 2 main characters: Pieta Rawlins, a journalist who was a victim of the Blindfolder a long time ago , and Jody foster, an Inspector who has been dragged back into a personal case from her past. Neither know how the other is involved, but for different reasons it affects them both. Full of twists, and things I didnt see coming.
A really good and gripping story by Mz Koomson, one I'd definitely recommend
thank you for allowing me to read this book. it was very easy to read. i enjoyed the story line and the characters. look forward to reading more from Dorothy.
Thank you to Netgalley, Dorothy Koomson and Headline for my arc of Tell Me Your Secret.
Synopsis: Ten years ago Pieta was kidnapped by a man calling himself the Blindfolder, he told her that she wouldn’t be killed if she managed to keep her eyes closed for 48 hours. Pieta never told anybody what happened to her and now she’s moved on with her life as best she can. But the Blindfolder is hunting down his past victims, and getting closer to Pieta every day. For Detective inspector Jody Foster the Blindfolder case feels personal, fifteen years ago she made a terrible mistake that resulted in him escaping justice, when she meets journalist Pieta and realises she was a victim, she might have found the perfect way to capture him once and for all, but it means endangering two innocent lives…
I’m sorry to say that I just didn’t get on with this one. I usually really enjoy Dorothy Koomson books but this one was a complete struggle. It didn’t hold my attention very well, the two perspectives were choppy and I didn’t connect with any of the characters, even the structure itself felt really different to her normal style. The story itself felt unbelievable and I wasn’t convinced by any of it, in parts, particularly at the end it just felt ridiculous. There was also a lot of focus on the two women’s name with the reader repeatedly reminded that ‘Jody Foster’ was with a Y so different to the actress and that Pieta is pronounced ‘Peter like the boy’ the second being repeated on what felt like every page. Quite disappointed with this one but it won’t put me off reading Dorothy’s books in future as I usually really like them.
Dorothy Koomson never disappoints me. I was gripped and devoured this book in just a few hours of train travel. A moving story of love and fear and the lengths we might go to for those we love. Perfect for a lazy afternoon in the garden or your holidays.
A body of a woman has been found in the park. This seems to be the latest victim of a serial killer who abducted women and then set them free if they kept their eyes closed while they were with him. Now he is targeting his past victims and killing them one by one.
Pieta a reporter was one of his previous victims but has never reported it and is now being sent to interview a another of the victims.
I found this story unbelievable and didn't connect with the main characters.
