I love it when an author writes a book about a small group of friends and makes a series out of it by highlighting a different person in each one. You meet up with old 'friends' and in the meantime you get the opportunity to delve deeper in the live of one of them.
How cruel young people can be, but that's no news. I guess everybody has been confronted with it or heard about it at least. When the victim has been hurt deeply enough, it will put a profound dent in your self-esteem and you will suffer the consequences for a very long time.
Those people will always try to please everybody and blame themselves when something goes wrong. But is it always your fault? Of course, not!! Often it certainly is not you. It's him.
One day you will meet someone who loves you for who you are and not for who they want you to be. You can pretend for a long time, but it will never make you happy.
It's not wrong or bad to put yourself in pole position every once in a while.
You can love someone from the bottom of your heart, but you can't change them. So, it's only natural to make changes that suit you!
A lovely story that I thoroughly enjoyed. 5 stars.
Thank you, Sophie Ranald, Bookouture and Netgalley.
fun frolicking read that touches upon a lot of social issues — rooted for the heroine, tansy throughout.
A great chic read for the beach. We have all been dumped and felt the pain of rejection. While this story may be a little over the hill it is entertaining and funny. Love the characters.
I really struggled with this one. It ended up being a DNF for me. I was a huge fan of Sorry Not Sorry but I just couldn't get invested in this story. It felt like a great deal of telling not showing so there was some disconnect. I do believe it is a fun rom-com with an important message, but the voice was a bit distant for me to connect with.
First of all I want to thank NetGalley, Sophie Ranald, and Bookuture for giving me a copy of this ARC to read and review for you all. I really enjoyed this book.
"New Year’s Eve. The most overrated night of the year, right? I have to get through a night of enforced fun, drink all the prosecco and talk about new beginnings. But I don’t want new beginnings. I want my old beginning back."
This book introduces us to Tansy who was in love with her perfect Renzo but he finds out a secret about her and dumps her. She loves him and can't get over him and becomes quite obsessed. Stalking him on Facebook and having her roommate figure out his schedule so she can accidentally bump into him. As crazy as it seems I felt like it was really relatable. I mean I've never purposely bumped into exes but I think a lot of us can relate to be dumped by someone we really care about and kind of becoming obsessed with looking at their social media accounts. She even goes so far to get a fake boyfriend to make Renzo jealous.
I really enjoyed this book and the ups and downs of Tansy trying to grow and figure herself out. This book was cute and funny but also talked about serious things. I don't want to give to much away but they do go into the past a bit and explain what is going on in her life back then that caused Renzo to dump her in the present.
The only thing I wish was that there was more of Josh and more of Tansy and Josh. He was such a stand up guy and I loved all of the parts of the book he was in and I really wanted more of him and them together. All in all I really did enjoy this book and the characters and I it was nice to see Tansy really grow as a person throughout this book. If you love cute rom coms I definitely recommend you check this one out.
I really enjoyed this book - I read it in 2 days. I really like the characters, and was wondering where it would go. Though a little predictable, it didn't at all bother me because it ended as i hoped it would. I actually would quite like to know what happened after it ended, there seems like is ended with lots of new starts for all, that it would be interesting. I would definitely recommend to anyone who loves to get lost in a good book!
This book wasn't for me.
I found it very hard to get into the book!! Half way through it did start to pick up. Tansy got dumped by Renzo, the love of her life. In order to win him back, she "accidentally"bumps into him a few times.
Adam and Josh are amazing characters, very funny. Their obsession with the neighbours cat freezer is the highlight of the book for me.

Such a fun book. It's hard to really explain what I loved about it without spoilers, but Tansy's a great character. I loved watching her grow and change throughout the book. I'll definitely be reading other books by this author.
I tried and tried with this one it but it simply didn’t work for me. The voice was off, the writing and story inserts felt random and misplaced, and overall I was confused by the tone at times too. I think we just weren’t meant to be me and this book.

"It's Not You It's Him" is a quick, and fairly entertaining read. Unlike most "chick-lit" rom-coms, this novel surprised me by giving the protagonist real-life problems that readers can relate to. Most romantic comedy heroines live in flats that are way above their pay-grade, somehow afford the most outrageous clothing and accessories, and are just the right kind of precious. Here, Tansy's history is slowly unveiled through flashbacks to her childhood and teenage years, revealing issues with body image and body shaming, resultant eating disorders, and the far-reaching effects of addictive gambling.
Tansy is also refreshingly flawed in a way that is rarely seen in this type of story. It's one thing to be a shopaholic, another to strip for strangers in front of a webcam, or steal merchandise from work to supplement your income, no matter the intentions. I enjoyed how those experiences made her feel more real.
The novel incorporates many other socially important themes (Asian sweatshops and child labor, for example), but ultimately they were treated a bit superficially. Yet, I appreciated having them brought to the readers' attention in this type of writing.
Despite these small misgivings, I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys light, quick reads, that are more than what appears on the surface.
3.5 stars! Thank you Netgalley for the ARC!
I needed a light, romantic comedy and this fit the bill. I could tell (for the most part) how the story was going to end, but yet I still stayed up late to finish it.
I loved the background of the fashion industry from a buyer's viewpoint. I'd love to see the dresses that Chelsea designed. If you want a book that has a happy ending for every character that deserved it (not you Renzo) then this is it!
This is the second book I have read by Sophie Ranald (I loved Sorry Not Sorry) and I enjoyed it! It's Not You It's Him is a great summer read. I thought it was fun, but not necessarily as funny as the blurb leads you to believe. I found Tansy to be relatable and I think a lot of 20 something women will relate to her. I didn't agree with her actions a lot of the time but I think that's what makes her relatable!
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Fun read published just in time to be your next great summer pick!
The characters were developed, interesting, likable and had relationships with each other that I found I could either relate to myself or enjoyed reading about. I particularly enjoyed Ranald's ability to capture the importance of embracing change and realizing one's own self-worth (as I feel like this is a very relevant struggle for many people) while doing so in a fun read.
Tansy is a quintessential 20-something struggling with relationships, family, and work. Renzo is entirely detestable, but not uncommon specimen in the dating world. And Josh is a crushable "boy next door". Tansy's internal growth spurt was very familiar so I found this book somewhat comforting with the occasional humor tied in.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for providing me with an ARC.
I received "It's Not You It's Him" by Sophie Ranald for free through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Based on the hype that I had read/heard about the book I was expecting a hilarious book. It was certainly humorous, but not something that made me laughing out loud. I did really enjoy the book and will definitely look for more books by this author. I did find that the main character was a bit daft as to what a tool her ex-boyfriend was and in some of the tricks that she thought that her new love interest/fake boyfriend (he doesn't know he's fake) played on her as a child.
Much like with Sophie Ranald’s Sorry Not Sorry, I struggled to put this book down! I was so happy to see that Tansy got her own story as I really enjoyed her in Charlotte’s book. Highlight? The rivalry between Josh and Adam. I found the battle, at least in Adam’s mind, for Freezer’s affection hysterical and endearing. I would love to read Adam's HEA!
Overall, this was an excellent work of women’s fiction that tackles difficult topics, particularly eating disorders and bullying. Sophie Ranald really brought all the feels in this book. If you are looking for a romance that slowly builds to the end, then you will probably be disappointed. If you want to watch a woman slowly come into her own as she works to live her best life and engages in some rather desperate behavior to win a scumbag back, then definitely pick up this book!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for letting me read this book.
I have read the previous book, Sorry Not Sorry, where Freezer (the cat) is a fixture too. Like her last novel, it takes a while for the main character to get over an ex (or the wrong man). I understand Tansy had many underlying issues (more than I realised after the first book), so it did contribute to her low self esteem, however it felt a tad too long to be 'in love' with him still. Especially after all the crappy things he did.
Again, the book was written well and engaging, it was just more serious than hilarious though.
3.5 stars
Let me just say LOVED this so much Tansy got left by Renzo and she was working on getting him back when she realized she didn’t really want him back the man she really wanted was so much better for her anyway I loved this but I love romance so anyone that loves romance should read this
It's Not You It's Him by Sophie Ranald tells the story of Tansy, who has recently been dumped by her boyfriend Renzo. Tansy believes Renzo to be the love of her life, and is determined to stop at nothing to get him back. Her attempts include sending him text message after text message, figuring out his schedule and showing up in places she knows he'll be, and even pretending to have a new love interest so as to make him jealous.
This book really surprised me! It started out super hard to get into, and I was afraid it was going to be a story solely about Tansy chasing a guy who was clearly a jerk and not worth the time of day. It turned out it was a lot more then that. Tany's personal life is kind of a mess at the beginning of the book. Through her attempts to get Renzo back, she ends up making much needed changes to better her life and her self. It's Not You It's Him is a story about friendship, self-love, and discovering your own worth. There's also some romance thrown in there as well. I ended up REALLY enjoying it, and recommend it. I am also now on the hunt for her previous book Sorry Not Sorry, which follows some characters mentioned in It's Not You It's Him.
Fun Fact---this book takes place in London, which is also where the author is from. I wasn't prepared for the spelling and lingo differences. It took me a minute to figure out why some words were spelled funny. (This in no way effects my rating, it's just a good to know piece of information.
Thank you for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
Funny rom com. Tansy wants to get her boyfriend Renzo back. She enlists the help of flatmate Adam who works with him, but as we get towards the end of the book maybe Renzo isn't who or what she wants....Its a lovely light read, I particularly liked the story of Chelsea, who could definitely be developed into a stand alone book. Its apparent this book is a follow up to Sorry not Sorry which I haven't read, but now want to. A great easy read.
This was a very fun book. It was light and easy to read and made me laugh, but also a bit frustrating at times as I wanted to tell the heroine to GROW UP!! However, that's what made the book fun as it was a roller coaster of emotions. I am anxious to read more from Sophia Ranald.
