I’ve read a lot of Jenny Hale’s books but this one wasn’t one of my faves. It took a while to get going and I skim read some of it to get to the point, however it was a lovely story to which the ending did make me shed a tear. It proves family is everything but also happiness. I would look out for Jenny’s next book and thank you for accepting my request.
Summer at Firefly Beach was a nice, quick read.
In this story we follow Hallie Flynn through her grieving for her late aunt, and her quest to choose the right path for a happy life, starting at Firefly beach and at the Starlight Cottage with the help of her family and her best friend, Ben.
The writing was well done, I liked the small town vibes and the characters, but there were some things that didn't sit well with me, like Hallie's stubborness to reject the best things of her life, or how she is too scared to even try to do something different, but I've still enjoyed the story.

Summer at Firefly Beach by Jenny Hale is a beautiful and emotional Summer read.
Get yourself a copy and hop on your hammock, with a box of tissues and a do not disturb sign.
Yes, it is very Hallmark. That is okay. It is well written and engrossing. I felt for Hallie , and I was invested in her story.
Do yourself a favor and pick this one up. Thank me later.
I suppose you already see me coming. This is book 1 and I have read book 2 about 3 years ago. 😊
The thing is you are human and most humans can not remember everything they have read or seen or went through. We do recollect very good as well as very bad things and we mostly forget about the average ones. It’s the same with books. I am very fortunate that I have not read a lot of medium or bad books. This means there is a lot of space to collect memories of the amazing ones and that’s why I still remember the second book in this series.
Now it was time to find out what happened before.
It was a beautiful and very emotional story. It’s amazing to see how people often know you better than you know yourself and sometimes they have to give you a push in the right direction even though you don’t see it that way at first.
‘Love conquers all’, they say. It sure does and so do family and friends. Without those three things life would be a lot sadder, harder and lonelier.
Sometimes you just have to dive in, go with the flow and follow your heart even if your brain says differently. Life is too short. Enjoy it.
I really enjoyed being on Firefly Beach again. 5 stars
Thank you
I received an ARC of Summer at Firefly Beach from NetGalley for my honest review.
A heart warming and emotional read.. This is everything a reader expects from a good beach read- a beautiful locale, a little mystery, and a love story.
After a few too many DNFs by Jenny Hale, I've come to the conclusion that she is just not the author for me. I know many others rave about her, so it's definitely a me problem!
I just loved Summer at Firefly Beach by Jenny Hale, it was a perfect feel good summer read that hooked me in from the first few pages. You will be taken on a tour through friendship, love, laughter, loss and family. Have a read you don’t want to miss this.
This book is the epitome of summer reading; this would be an excellent camping or beach read because it is light, fun, and will keep your spirits high. Overall, I enjoyed how put together this story was and how well-developed the characters were. Not to mention, the cover art for this book is also gorgeous!!
Hallie Flynn and her sister Sydney loved staying with their great Uncle Hank and great Aunt Clara at Firefly beach and it was like a second home for the sisters. Sadly Aunt Clara passed away from cancer six months ago, the place doesn’t seem the same without her and Uncle Harold is really struggling with his grief.
Aunt Clara left everyone in the family a letter, in Hallie’s case it’s a copy of the bucket list she wrote when she was twelve and has she accomplished everything on the list? Build a Sandcastle like Uncle Hank’s, become a photographer, live somewhere new, kiss a boy and make a wish and have it come true?
Hallie’s spending her summer with her family and her best friend Ben Murray at Firefly beach, and they have private access to the beautiful beach and an amazing view. Tackling the tasks on her bucket list isn’t as easy as it seems, it forces Hallie to look back at the past, face the future and she starts to develop feelings for Ben. But Hallie has a secret, it’s painful and she doesn’t know how she can get over her loss. Wise words from Aunt Clara help, a story about moving on from the past, making peace with it, opening your heart to change and the possibilities that come with it.
I received a copy of Summer at Firefly Beach from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review, four stars from me and I look forward to reading other books by Jenny Hale.
I feel like I’m in the biggest book coma after finishing this book. This story tore at me in so many different ways as it depicted a friendship between two people who were so obviously right for each other.
I’ve read many a friends-to-lovers romance books but this one was sweet in the sense that Ben and Hallie had been childhood friends and as such there love for each other grew in so many ways throughout the years. It was this same bond of friendship that made this story so hard to read, realizing just how gut wrenching it is to realize after so many years that the perfect person was there all along.
After an almost marriage and a heartbreak beyond words, Hallie deals with the aftermath of her favorite aunt and someone she’d been so similar to dying. Gathering the whole family including her childhood friend with whom she hadn’t spoken to in months, Hallie and her family visit their uncle Hank whose been so defeated with grief over his wife, Clara’s death. At Firefly Beach where they’d once played as children, Ben and Hallie are both forced to admit that the feelings of friendship had over the years, changed into something more.
As Hallie works through the list of things to do that her Aunt Clara wanted her to do before getting her part of the inheritance, Hallie realizes that she has a different purpose in life. Along the way not only does she bring her dreams to fruition.. but she puts her family back together after the grief they’ve suffered as well as deals with the demons in her past that won’t let her be happy with Ben.
This book was beyond amazing and was so just the thing I needed to read.
This story was touching, romantic, and heartfelt. I loved how the character worked through her grief as well as show a huge amount of growth in her summer at Firefly Beach.
I have no idea how it took me almost 2 whole years to read this book! I really enjoyed the journey that we went on with the main characters. The artwork on the cover is absolutely gorgeous and I’m so happy that I did end up getting the sequel on here as well so that I could continue the series right away! Jenny may just be one of my new favorite authors!
'Summer at Firefly Beach' is a beautiful book that will keep you reading through the night. It has so much: hurt, loss, love and hope. A fabulous book.
Hallie Flynn always cherished her times at Firefly Beach with Aunt Clara, so it was with a heavy heart when she returns after her favorite aunt's passing. In her last letter, she included a bucket list Hallie wrote as a child, with instructions for Hallie to complete it before gaining her inheritance. At her wit's end about how to accomplish her mission, will Hallie turn to her childhood best friend Ben Murray for support?
This is definitely a beach read, though not just because it takes place by the shore. It follows a predictable formula and has a story that is not really all that realistic. The ease at which Hallie accomplishes her tasks does not ring true and the fairy tale aspects of the plot are less than interesting to me. Readers who like beach reading romances may like Summer at Firefly Beach, but I am less than impressed.
Disclaimer: I was given an Advanced Reader's Copy of Summer at Firefly Beach by NetGalley and the publisher, Bookouture. The choice to review this book was my own.
This book was super sweet and super cute but for me I didn’t feel the spark and I didn’t feel like it did anything different to grab my attention. I think I’ll try this again during summer to see if that works!
I loved this book from start to finish. The characters were well crafted, the plot was intriguing, and I just wanted to get myself to a beach rental ASAP as soon as I began to read. Perfect end of summer mind candy.
An absolutely gorgeous summer romance novel from Jenny - was extremely fun, I could not put it down! Jenny Hale has done it again :)
I don’t even know where to begin with this delightful book! This was such a fun, book to sit down and enjoy! I had such a blast with the characters and all of the shenanigans that they got involved in! I absolutely cannot wait to read another book by this author! Jenny wrote such a fun storyline it was hard not to love the characters. This is definitely a fun pick me up kind of book to enjoy on the beach!
Thank you to the publisher, author, and Netgalley for the gifted review copy. All opinions are my own.
Hallie Flynn's aunt Clara has passed away and left her inheritance to the family. She left a bucket list for Hallie that Hallie wrote as a child and needs to fulfill it.
Hallie left her job to come to Firefly Beach and needs to decide what she wants to do with her future. Also helping her is her best friend Ben who is always there for her, her mom and her sister. I love Hallie's nephew Robby as he seemed so cute and needs a man figure in his life. Hw always seemed to be with Ben and Hallie that at sometimes I forgot he was Hallie's nephew and not her son.
All during this Hallie has a secret and what will happen when it comes out?
I enjoyed this story and the setting as I wanted to be there.
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC to review.
A very sweet book with what I would take as a happy ending. Lovely characters, some have left me very intrigued. Wonderful writing.
